IGM Utility: Free World II Player Database Editor

This utility program was created by Donald Tidmore.
FW2Edit is based upon the Chasware LPEdit utility.

This program is dedicated to George Batalias, Jr. and
Rob McGee.

** December 11, 2009 Compile date.

FW2EDIT Compilation: December 11, 2009.

Version 0.92 Beta -- December 2009 development.
-- Development of utility started on Apr. 12, 2006.

-- Uses Player Database structure created on
            Feb. 28th, 2006.

-- For usage only with the LORD/32 IGM.

-- Requires you to have a current FW2PLAY.DAT file.
-- You should be using at least v1.20+ of the IGM.

Distributed inside the FW2-EDIT.ZIP beta archive.
Also distributed inside the FW2-WORK.ZIP beta archive.
  --------------------------------------------------

Note: Free World II or FW2EDIT are in active development,
but are not worked on frequently. Due to the complete
lack of interest that's been shown in both of my LORD/32
programs, I have no incentive to work on them quickly.
So they are worked on periodically when I feel like
doing updates and/or program testing on them.

  FW2EDIT Usage Notes:
  =======================================
** Obtain copy of the FW2-EDIT.ZIP archive. Primary
distribution sources are my Castle Camelot and Camelot
LordNews FDN web-sites. Along with the BBS Archives
web-site's FTP server, the Nightfallgames.com server,
and the LegendaryDragons.com FTP server. The most
up-to-date files will always be on the Castle Camelot
	  site at http://camelot.legendarydragons.com/.

See FW2-EDIT.ZIP for documentation files updates that I
periodically post to the Castle Camelot web-site.

While program is in beta development, contact me for
the latest IGM archives via email.
     ======================================================

  1) Unzip all files from FW2-EDIT.ZIP into your IGM directory,
     using overwrite mode.

  2) Change into Free World II IGM directory. Verify you have
a current FW2PLAY.DAT file. If you don't, then you can't
     use FW2EDIT.EXE.

A new FW2PLAY.DAT is created by the IGM when it is executed
by LORD/32 for the first time in a day, or whenever the IGM
is run and a player database file does not exist. The
editor program won't work without the FW2PLAY.DAT file.

  3) The first time you run the utility, it will ask you for
the path to Free World II IGM directory. Type it in, and
press ENTER to exit the dialog box prompt. FW2EDIT.CFG
file will be created in that directory.

  4) Run FW2EDIT.EXE. If a config file is not in the directory
you run it from, it will ask you to create on - as noted
above. If config file is found, it then checks for existence
of FW2PLAY.DAT file. If one is not found, program will
give an error message and quit working.

FW2EDIT has only one screen of data. It shows database
fields in the order they are listed in the player database
record structure (usually). Each value, with ONE exception,
may be set to any value that is valid for it.

     (1) The LORD/32 Player Number field is display-only. That is
because I don't see any valid reason to allow users to fiddle
around with it. During initial development, this field CAN
     be edited.

     ---------------------------------------------------------
During initial development, ALL of the database fields
may be edited, except for the exception listed above, for
purpose of fixing database record glitches or to test the
IGM's handling of invalid values such as the designated
player having some other player's LORD/32 player record number.

If you need to verify that player number data is valid,
there are two simple ways to do so. One is to run my
LPEDIT/32 program and note what player Numbers are used
by each player. The other way is to use LORD/32's
LORDCFG.EXE utility, and use its Player Database Editor.

Then if someone's LORD/32 player # is invalid, you can fix
it manually (while the Player Number field is edit-able,
that is), or wait for the IGM to fix the errors automatically
when it is doing IGM entry processing.
     ---------------------------------------------------------

  5) When you exit FW2EDIT, it will resave the FW2PLAY.DAT
file so that any changes you made will be accessible to
the IGM. End of Notes for FW2EDIT usage.

==============================================================
WARNINGS:

  * FW2EDIT.EXE should NEVER be run while the LORD/32 IGM is
in use, since it could cause complications for the person(s)
who are in the LORD/32 for Windows game using the Free
    World II IGM.
==============================================================

SPECIAL NOTES:

  * Unlike the IGM itself, which I have to use the Virtual
Pascal v2.10 build 279 compiler for, the FW2EDIT.EXE program
is a DOS utility program which is developed using the Borland
    Pascal v7.01 compiler.

  * Just like my ChasWare LPEDIT DOS LORD utility, FW2EDIT.EXE
requires the TurboJock Gold Tool-kit, which is no longer
sold anywhere, and elements of the Chasware Library code
developed by Charlie Wardick. Nothing inside FW2EDIT.EXE
is based upon the MannDoor Tool-kit, which is used by the
LORD/32 Free World II IGM program.

  * I reserve the right to deny support to anyone who uses this
program in violation of my usage directives. I am also NOT
responsible for any damage to the end-user's computer system,
their LORD/32 game, and so on. If you use this program
CORRECTLY, it will never cause problems for your LORD/32
game or for the Free World II LORD/32 IGM that is has been
    developed for use with.

You are granted viewing rights only to these Pascal source
code files. No one is allowed to use the source code files
on their own without my explicit permission, with the exception
of their usage to make similar LORD programs of your very own.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Usage of Charlie Wardick's Chasware Library is freely granted
to anyone who wishes to use it. However, remember it is his
copyrighted property, and you do NOT have rights without his
permission to alter its CHASWARE.PAS, CHASWIGM.PAS, and

Read the documentation in the Manndoor Toolkit, by Rick Parrish,
for information related to copyright information, and usability
rights to the Manndoor code that Free World II is written in.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Note: The TechnoJock's Gold Toolkit, which is no longer
supported or available for purchase online, is used to make
FW2EDIT. If you wish to use my set of TPU files for it, let
me know. Just be aware that its authors are not available for
technical support or product purchase/registration.
