IGM For Legend Of The Red Dragon for Windows

Created By: Chris Martino (Chachi) - who disappeared
in late May 2005.

Adopted in August 2005 by Donald Tidmore.

** Initially used Manndoor.pas v3.08.30 unit file dated 11/14/2005.
** Used Manndoor v4.05.20 from R&M Software web-site in 2007-2008.
** Currently using Manndoor v6.06.15, as of 05/11/2009.

1. Introduction

The Free World II For LORD/32 v4.08 Beta for Windows is
a 32-bit program created with Virtual Pascal. It runs
in a DOS window set up by LORD/32. It is a 32-bit program
that requires a 32-bit Microsoft Windows operating system.

All testing is done using MS Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Prior testing was done using MS Windows XP S.P. 1.
==============================================================

NOTICE: *ALL* plans for doing other LORD/32 igms have
been terminated. There is NO point in spending time writing
and testing programs that NO ONE shows any interest in whatsoever.

Eventually, I will release this igm officially. But if no one
ever bothers to provide feedback on its usability, I will NOT
promise to do ANY future versions whatsoever under any circumstance!
Donald. 04/10/07.

** May 05th, 2006 Note: **

For instructions on using FW2EDIT.EXE, see the FW2EDIT.TXT
docs file, which is inside FW2EDIT.ZIP and FW2-WORK.ZIP.
--------------------------------------------------------------

2. How to Install this IGM:
-----------------------------------------------------------
   1) Get current copy of FW2-WORK.ZIP from me via email.

Create an FWII directory (or some other dir. name),
and unzip FW2-Work into it, using overwrite mode.

If you've used a previous beta, the IGM no longer uses
the CHANCE.ANS file. It was renamed to FWCHANCE.ANS on
Nov. 05, 2005. Delete your chance.ans file, and use the
Fwchance.ans file that is inside the fw2-work.zip archive.

      ------------------------------------------------------
The IGM no longer uses FW2.DAT file. It was replaced by
the new Player Database file FW2PLAY.DAT. If you still
have FW2.DAT, delete it. In effect since February 2006.

The IGM no longer uses FW2.CFG file. That was replaced
by the new Config File FW2CFG.DAT. If you still have a
FW2.CFG file, delete it. In effect since February 2006.
      ------------------------------------------------------

   2) Make sure Lord/32 is not running.

To see a short parameters info screen, run the
      command: FW2.EXE /C .

To install the IGM, run this command: FW2 -Install

The same command is used to un-install the IGM also.
You can type either FW2.EXE or just FW2, and the
      parameters can be lower-case, mixed-case or upper-case.

A shorter install command of FW2 -I may also be used.
      ------------------------------------------------------

   3) When you run FW2 -Install command, you are asked to
select seven configuration values. The first is the
LORD/32 Directory Path. The second is the IGM Directory
Path. The third is your Sysop Name - this is your first
and last name, The fourth is your Sysop Handle - which
is the LORD Character name you personally use in LORD/32.
The fifth value is BBS Name or Web-site Name. If you don't
have a BBS or Web-site, just select a Name you like.

Variable #6 is Max Visits per Day. Allowed range during
initial work is between 1 and 15. ** Not implemented yet.

Variable #7 is Max Wishes per Day. Allowed range during
initial work is between 1 and 10. ** Not implemented yet.

Once you have finished the seventh config variable, the
IGM will install itself into the LORD/32 game's 3rdparty.dat
file. As of 03/27/2006, an IGM Install notice is written
to the LOGNOW.TXT file. If Lognow.txt does not exist during
IGM installation/un-installation process, it is automatically
      created by the IGM.

Similarly, as of 03/27/2006, during IGM installation or
un-installation, if 3RDPARTY.DAT does not exist, a new
blank file is automatically created by the IGM. LORD/32
does not have any instructions text at the top of its
3rdparty.dat file, as does DOS LORD. The only lines that
can be in the file are for actual IGM installation entries.
      -----------------------------------------------------

After the Lognow.txt file update is finished, the IGM then
exits the Installation (or Un-Install) process, and returns
to the DOS command prompt line.

Notes: If you have more than one copy of the IGM running in a
Lord/32 game, you have to configure/install/un-install
each copy of the IGM separately.

IGM Install/Un-Install Processes Note:  {03/28/06}
---------------------------------------------------
The Install code, and Un-Install code, have both been
rewritten as of 03-28-2006. If the IGM is already installed
in 3rdparty.dat, the IGM will NOT re-install the IGM again
in the file.

During un-install, since some people like myself run an IGM
from one location and have it run by LORD/32 in a second
location, the IGM Un-install process will delete the FW2CFG.DAT
file from BOTH the current directory - where FW2.EXE is
being executed from, and from the FW2 IGM Directory, where it
was installed. The latter location is where LORD/32 always
looks when it is running the IGM. End od 03/28/06 update #1.
----------------------------------------------------------

Access to DEBUG info during IGM development:  {03/28/06}
--------------------------------------------------------
1. The IGM writes debug information to the FW2DEBUG.TXT
file during normal usage in a LORD/32 game. Only the end-user
or sysop is able to view the file. Which needs to be deleted
periodically since it can become very large over time.

2. On-screen debug messages are shown in two situations.
(A) Most are only shown if you use the IGM with CASTLE CAMELOT
as the BBS Name. (B) Other debug code is only shown if you
play the IGM with DONALD TIDMORE as your Sysop Name.

That's done to limit the effect of the debug code on the
players, so that it does not bug them a lot (hopefully).

The Configuration process, IGM Installation process, and
IGM Un-Installation process are all fully tested as of
03-28-2006, so they do not contain any debug code now.

End of 03/28/06 update #2.
-------------------------------------------------------------

===========================================================
Using the IGM more than once a day: 03/27/06 Update

Unless you are using a beta dated February 2006 or later of
this IGM, you need to un-install the igm and then re-install
it using the current beta FW2-WORK.ZIP archive's files.

The IGM has a new IGM Configuration file in use named FW2CFG.DAT,
as of late February 2006. The config file will look like this:

C:\internet\lord32\ <-- Line 1. Your Lord/32 game path.
C:\vp21\FWII\ <-- Line 2. The IGM Directory path.
Donald Tidmore <-- Line 3. Your Sysop Name.
Sysop <-- Line 4. Your LORD Sysop Handle.
Castle Camelot <-- Line 5. Name of your BBS/Web-site.
15 <-- Line 6. Max Visits per day.
10 <-- Line 7. Max Wishes per Day.

There are seven lines total. Do NOT add anything else to the
file under ANY circumstance, or the IGM may malfunction.

The actual LORD/32 Path and IGM Path values will be different
for everyone based on where you run LORD/32 from, and where
you run the Free World II igm from.

Users are allowed during beta development to use between 1 and 15
for Max Visits per Day, and between 1 and 10 for Max Wishes per
Day setting. The latter controls the number of Wishes one can
make per day at the IGM's Wishing Well.

Once a user has used up their allowed Visits per day, they will
not be allowed to re-enter the igm again until the next LORD/32
game day. Once the allowed Wishes per day are used, players
are denied access to the Wishing Well similarly until the next
LORD/32 game day.
==============================================================

* Usage of FW2PLAY.DAT and FW2TIME.DAT igm data files has been
implemented, and their usage is being fine-tuned gradually.

* Usage of two IGM Usage Reports was enabled on 04/03-04/2006,
using disk file FW2USAGE.TXT, the FW2 -REPORT command, and
a Configuration Menu option for updating/viewing the Usage
Reports when FW2 -INSTALL command is used. The Usage Reports
are not usable if you do not have a FW2PLAY.DAT file.

* During each visit to the IGM, the player is allowed 50 Turns.
Once players use up those Turns, they are automatically sent
back to LORD.

Rewrote docs section on 04/04/2006.

                         Free World II Docs Summary:
----------------------------------------------------------
Original MS Word docs file by Chris Martino was revised
to this ASCII text file on October 02, 2005.

This IGM is copyright 2005-2010 by Donald Tidmore.
The FW2EDIT.EXE utility is copyright 2006-2010 by Donald Tidmore.

The original author of Free World, George Batalias, Jr.
authorized this program in 2005. I have had no contact with
him in well over a year, so everyone has to assume that he
has not been to find/recover the DOS LORD IGM's source code
from the friend who has/had his old BBS computer systems.
