0.50:    RECENT CHANGES INFO:      {09/08/08}
---------------------------------------------
Did 100% rewrite of docs file and renamed it to NICEHAG.TXT
on 09/08/2008. Created and tested HAGEDIT.EXE Player Database
Editor utility for use with the IGM.

v2.33 Beta: 10/02/08: Rewrote igm so it handles possibility that
a player may die if HitPoints drop to Zero during an igm visit.
Its not likely to occur, since the Bandit never kills anyone. His
attacks always leaves the warrior with ONE Hit-Point. This igm
does not have a Fairy Rescue event, since its never likely to
be needed.

v2.38.5 Beta: 12/24/2008. Synchronized the reports structure
used in the HAGUSAGE.TXT to match what is shown on-screen
when the IGM displays the IGM Usage Reports. Identified
need to revise the igm's Player Database structure, which
was done on 12/24-25/08.

01/19/09 edits: Hag now grants 4 Hitmax points for the gem;
Increased amounts granted in Defense, Strength, and Experience
so the igm is a little more rewarding to the player.

------------------------------------------------------------
12/15/09: Created and Tested REPAIR module. End user can use
it to completely recreate the NICEHAG2.DAT file without having
to un-install and re-install the IGM into LORD. It has to
verify the LORD and IGM Paths, but doesn't write anything to
LORD's 3rdparty.dat and lognow.txt data files.  Requires v2.40.

------------------------------------------------------------
12/18/09: Added second randomly occurring event at IGM exit
featuring an Unicorn. It will grant small amounts of Charm
and Strength Points, if it occurs. Initial testing done
using Dec. 15 compile date for NICEHAG.EXE. Requires v2.40.

Fixed glitch in on-screen Usage Reports where Gold Change
field was not reporting data correctly when IGM's Gold stat
was negative.

1.00:    INTRODUCTION SECTION:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
  Thanks for trying out my second personal LORD IGM program. This is
  the second IGM adapted from an LORD LADY Script that was created
  in 2002 by myself. The IGM was created on April 07th, 2003.

  ======================= Program Description/Setting:
  While adventuring in the forest, you come across an Old woman.
  Her smile warms your heart. "My name is Sarah, and I'm lost. Can
  you help me get home?" she asks. Being a good warrior, you escort
  her home to a little brick cottage near town. You are greeted by
  Sarah's sister, who you have met before -- it's the Old Hag.

  The Hag thanks you for bringing her sister home safely, and offers
  you a special deal as a reward. For one Gem, she will DOUBLE her
  usual exchange rate, and give you TWO Hitpoints! There are a few
  extras involved in the process, including Healing when needed,
  and a small gift of Experience Points. Whether you give the Hag
  your gem or not, you will get something out of the visit.
  ============================

  Uses Limitation: This IGM can only be used up to 5 times per day.
  Sysops/end-users may choose between 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 uses per day.
  Nicehag.exe is hard-coded to not work past 5 visits each day for
  a player, whose past igm usage is recorded in the IGM's daily usage
  database file - hagvisit.dat. (v2.10 allows 5 max visits per day.)
  -------------------------------------------------------------------

  IGM does not involve interaction with other players. If player is
  married, the spouse's name is listed in the View Stats screen. The
  IGM should be usable on as many nodes as your LORD game/BBS can access.

  No LORD mail files are written by IGM to players, and no usage-oriented
  messages are written by IGM to lognow.txt file, as of v2.10.

  { ------------------------------------------------------------------ }
  v2.15+ Notes: The Bandit event will be run 20% of the time, after the
  player leaves the cottage. Unlike the LADY script, I've configured
  the IGM to only take 25% of the player's Gold and Gems.

  Note 2: I decided that those who try to keep accessing IGM each
  day beyond the Max Visits/Day setting, configured by sysop during
  IGM installation, will ALWAYS meet the bandit while exiting IGM.

  Example: If sysop sets IGM usage to 2 times/day, anyone who uses IGM
  3 times or more, will automatically trigger the bandit event.
==============================================================

2.0: THE IGM Limits, Configuration Process:
==================================================================
  1) IGM is only usable 1-20 times per day. However, I do
  advise that it not be used more than 5 times per day. For
  these reasons: (A) the igm can KILL careless players who
  play igms with injured HitPoints in the Bandit event; and
  (B) it was never designed in the beginning of its development
  for usage several times per day. Use your own judgement as
  to what you use for Max IGM Visits per Day in Configuration.

  A player can be attacked by the Bandit once during each visit
  if that event is randomly executed. However, the random is
  ALWAYS executed on visits that exceed the Visits/Day Limit.
--------------------------------------------------------------

  The Nice Hag 2.40 Configuration Process:
  ======================================
  1) Run NICEHAG CONFIG. Follow on-screen instructions.

  -- Max Visits per Day. Range is 1-20, default is 10.

  -- Sysop's Lord name - Also called Sysop Handle sometimes.

  -- Unless you re-install the game, you have to manually update
     3RDPARTY.DAT to the current IGM version data. Which is now:

            The Nice Hag 2.40

     If you have not been using version data, then the changes in
     beta numbers is not something you need to deal with in 3RDPARTY.DAT.
  ======================================================================

    DOS LORD v4.07 was officially released on Jun. 07, 2006.
    None of the 32-bit versions have been officially released.

    v4.08 Betas were released with ONE compilation in late
    September 2006 for DOS LORD, LORD/32, LORD for OS/2, and
    LORD for Linux. In the 20+ months since then, there has
    been no official development of LORD programs -- that has
    been made accessible to the public. The LORD programs are
    in development, but new beta compilations are not available
    to anyone other than the sysops of one BBS.
===============================================================

  IGMs are only usable in DOS LORD and in LORD for Windows (LORD/32).
  The 32-bit LORD programs are unable to use DOS LORD IGM programs.
  -----------------------------------------------------------

  If you have more than one LORD game, be sure to double-check values
  in NICEHAG2.DAT so that you know which game you are installing the
  IGM into.

  Everyone using the IGM gets to view the IGM Usage Reports on-screen,
  with one exception. Those players who have exceeded the Max Visits
  per Day Limit, do NOT get to see those Usage Reports.

  This IGM has 6 data lines. An example is shown below:

C:\INTERNET\LORD\                  <-- LORD Path
C:\BP7\NICEHAG\UNITS\              <-- IGM directory path
DONALD TIDMORE                     <-- Sysop's Name
BELGARION                          <-- Sysop's LORD Name
CASTLE CAMELOT                     <-- BBS Name
20 <-- Max Visits per Day
---------------------------------------------------------

12/15/09 note: Should you need to recreate the IGM Config File
but don't want to have to uninstall and re-install the igm,
you can use NICEHAG REPAIR command now. Requires v2.40. NICEHAG.EXE
has to be dated Dec. 15, 2009 or later for this feature to work.

Reasons for usage: The igm will not allow anyone to enter if it
can't find its config file. Running NICEHAG INSTALL though includes
the full process of configuration AND installation into LORD. In
which case you end up with two installations in 3RDPARTY.DAT. This
feature eliminates the need to re-install, or to delete dupe entries
from the LORD data file.
===============================================================

                 ** Implemented on Sept. 04th, 2008.

* HAGEDIT.CFG - Created by HAGEDIT.EXE.  Tells Player Database
                 Editor which directory to look in for access
                 to the HAGPLAY.DAT player database file.
                 ** Implemented on Sept. 08th, 2008.

* HAGTIME.DAT - Used to keep track of change in Day, Month
                 or Year, so IGM knows internally when to reset its
                 data files for a new day's game usage.

* HAGUSAGE.TXT - Disk file listing content of HAGPLAY.DAT.
                 Created automatically when IGM is used by sysop or
                 the end-user. Created when NICEHAG REPORT command
                 is entered from DOS Prompt. Req'd: HAGPLAY.DAT file.
                 Contains two IGM usage reports.
                 ** Implemented on Sept. 04th, 2008.

* HAGBACK.DAT - Backup of the IGM's HAGPLAY.DAT player database
                 file. When the IGM is running and HAGPLAY.DAT
                 can't be found, it is used to recreate the player database file.
                 ** Implemented on Sept. 04th, 2008.

* HAGDEBUG.TXT - Debug Log file.
                 ** Implemented on Sept. 04th, 2008.
                 ** Usage discontinued on Dec. 23rd, 2008.

4.0  INSTALLATION:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
    Always obtain current beta archive from me via email. Backups
    posted online on my distribution sites, and on my Castle
    Camelot web-site are not always up-to-date.

    http://camelot.legendarydragons.com/IGM-Beta/hag-work.zip
    http://camelot.legendarydragons.com/IGM-Beta/hag-edit.zip
    ============================================================

    This IGM has not been officially released yet, so everone
    is to use the HAG-WORK.ZIP and HAG-EDIT.ZIP archives.

    1. Unzip HAG240.ZIP into a LORD sub-directory, or into main
       LORD directory. As long as no other IGM uses NICEHAG*.* names
       and HAGEDIT*.* names that this IGM uses, it will co-exist with
       other LORD IGMs without any problem. The Docs files can be
       renamed, if needed, if there is any file-name conflict.

       To use/update the new HAGEDIT.EXE utility, remember to
       unzip all of the HAGEDIT.* files, from either HAG240.ZIP
       or HAGEDT10.ZIP.

    2. If you are updating an configuration, run NICEHAG CONFIG.
       It can't be used to change LORD Path or IGM Path.

    3. To install the IGM, from DOS Prompt, type:
       NICEHAG INSTALL

       Follow on-screen instructions, and IGM will be installed into
       your LORD game. IGM announces itself in LOGNOW.TXT, and adds
       its entry lines to 3RDPARTY.DAT. That concludes installation.
       Process creates the IGM's config file: NICEHAG2.DAT.

C:\BP7\NICEHAG\UNITS\NICEHAG.EXE /N* /GC:\INTERNET\LORD
The Nice Hag v2.40

       Basic entry lines that I use, without LORD Color Codes,
       in the 3RDPARTY.DAT. Will be different for each user since
       everyone uses different directory/drive path info.

    4. To install the HAGEDIT.EXE program, you simply run it,
       and answer the prompt for the path to your The Nice Hag
       IGM files. It is NOT usable without a HAGPLAY.DAT file.

    5. Those who use my LordMenu utility are advised to always
       remember to update its data files after *ANY* changes
       are made to the LORD 3RDPARTY.DAT file. Especially if
       you (a) changed version number info for igms, (b) installed
       a new igm, or (c) un-installed an igm.
=======================================================================

IGM Removal Synopsis:
-------------------------
    1. Change to where you installed the IGM. Type: NICEHAG REMOVE
       Follow instructions, and IGM will be removed from 3RDPARTY.DAT,
       and the NICEHAG2.DAT file will be deleted.

    2. Delete the NICEHAG*.* and hagedit.* files unless you think you
       may want to keep them around. That concludes IGM removal
       process. Also delete files like HAGTIME.DAT, HAGUSAGE.TXT,
       HAGBACK.DAT, and HAGPLAY.DAT, unless you plan to
       re-install the IGM later.

       The Un-install process will ask you if you wish to delete
       data files. If you confirm with a Yes response, then you
       have to choose to delete each data file individually. I felt
       this was the best way to do the Uninstallation process.
============================================================

    I only support the CURRENT Version of an IGM. In this case,
    I only provide support for 2.40 of The Nice Hag. This
    applies to ALL users of The Nice Hag LORD IGM.

    * Obtain HAG-WORK.ZIP from one of the sources on the Internet,
      preferably one of the sites listed in this file. Or you
      can request the file from me via Email or Fidonet echo mail.

      NOTE: Until the IGM is put into development again, use only
      HAG240.ZIP and HAGEDT10.ZIP archives whereever the docs
      make reference to the HAG-WORK.ZIP and HAG-EDIT.ZIP files.

      All of the Player Database Editor files are inside the
      HAG-EDIT.ZIP, as well as inside HAG-WORK.ZIP. And they
      are inside the HAG240.ZIP and HAGEDT10.ZIP archives.

      On Fidonet, you can reach me in the DoorWare echo, DoorGames
      echo, or LORD echo, or via NetMail.

      To be sure you have the most current beta, or official version,
      always check with me.

-----------------------------
Special Note about the Prompt Dialog Boxes. If you are using
a mouse, just click on a prompt option such as YES. If you're
using keyboard commands, ALT-Y responds to YES prompts, and
ALT-N responds to the NO Prompts. To use a CANCEL prompt,
though, you WILL have to use the Mouse to select those.
=========================================================

Minus LORD color codes, which in general I personally don't use
much myself, this is what the IGM command lines in 3RDPARTY.DAT
should look like. Each person installs programs their own way,
so your directory path will usually be different:

C:\INTERNET\LORD\IGMs\NICEHAG.EXE /N* /GC:\INTERNET\LORD
The Nice Hag 2.40

The actual IGM Path and LORD path values will be different for
most users. But the IGM command line MUST look like the example.

The actual description entry in 3RDPARTY.DAT will contain
LORD color codes. They can be changed to your own preference.

You can have version data or omit it as you wish.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: While using this IGM, you may NOT rename any of these files:
       NICEHAG2.DAT, HAGTIME.DAT, HAGPLAY.DAT, NICEHAG.EXE,
       HAGBACK.DAT, or HAGEDIT.CFG.

       The debug log file, HAGDEBUG.TXT, is no longer in use
       by the IGM, so it can be deleted at any time by the user,
       if they have been beta testing the igm and have the file.

       Renaming an executable program can sometimes cause it to
       malfunction, or it might refuse to run at all.

       Renaming HAGUSAGE.TXT will not hurt anything, but should not
       be done except to make backups of the usage reports file.

       Renaming files will result in IGM usage problems, or keep the
       IGM from working at all. Plus, doing so is a violation of the
       conditions for obtaining technical support. I do not promise
       to provide support to people who disregard these directions.
======================================================================

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Any version of DOS LORD that supports IGMs. Testing was done
     with versions 3.55 through v4.08 Beta.

     The IGM is based on the LORD v3.55 player database format,
     therefore it can NOT be used with older versions of LORD
     such as v3.26 or v3.50.

  2. DOS 6.x or later versions. Probably works with DOS v3.xx forward
     as well, but I can't say for sure.

  3. IGM is usable whether LORD is registered or not. NONE of my
     IGMs will EVER change your LORD registration status.

  4. To use HAGEDIT.EXE, you must use a compilation of the
     NICEHAG.EXE file that is dated on/after Sept. 04th, 2008.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

LORD Scripts Notes:
=====================
    LORD Lady Scripts, Nicehag.ldy, which this IGM is based upon, is
    usable only with LORD 4.05pb, 4.06, 4.07, or v4.08 Beta.

    NiceHag.ldy is usable with Lord/32 v4.07 or v4.08 betas.

    Note that the IGM works differently than the LADY script,
    due to limitations of the LORD LADY Script Language.

Note: I no longer spend time working on my LADY Scripts. No one
ever shows any interest in them, and they all work properly as
they are currently written in both DOS LORD and LORD/32.
================================================================

Archive/Program Version Info:
-----------------------------
   The IGM's last public release was v2.30. My LADY Script
   files for The Nice Hag use the v1.xx numbering system.

   The first three versions of the IGM were all released in
   2003. The fourth version (v2.30) was released in 2004.
   The IGM stayed inactive afterwards until Sept. 2008.

   The fifth version is v2.40, which is not ready for release yet.
------------------------------------------------------------

Old Versions Info for IGM:
--------------------------
NiceHag.LDY data is not covered here. See DGT-LADY.TXT instead.

THE NICE HAG v2.00 IGM was officially released on May 06th, 2003.

* Version 2.10 was officially released on June 04th, 2003.
* Version 2.14 was officially released on October 03rd, 2003.
* Version 2.30 was officially released on March 25th, 2004.

* Version 2.40 - Has not been officially released yet.

SPECIAL THANKS TO:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Gary Hartzell - For giving me feedback, support, and friendship.
                  And especially for encouraging me to become an LORD
                  IGMs author when I was considering it in May 2002.

Jason Brown - For entrusting me with his LORD IGMs and utilities
                  as their co-author, maintainer, and updater.
                  Also for several long years of LORD friendship.

Charlie Wardick - My primary programming teacher. For over a year
                  of training in how to write LADY scripts in a
                  logical manner, and then in relearning Pascal
                  language and usage of Turbo/Borland Pascal.

And to all of my other friends who have gone through my evolution
as a LORD games programmer since February 2002, by testing my new
Lady scripts, and LORD IGM/utility beta compilations, over those
many months. Oh yeah, and most of all, for putting up with my
tendency to write occasionally LONG email messages to them <G>.

DEDICATIONS Section:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Older versions of The Nice Hag IGM, as of 06/03/2003, were
dedicated to my friends Gary Hartzell and Gordon Lewicky.

Gordon died a few years ago, and some of my LORD programs will
always be dedicated to his memory.

12/24/2008 Note: The igm is now dedicated to my friends Gary
Hartzell and Michael Everett. The HAGEDIT utility is dedicated
to my friend Shannon Talley.
------------------------------------------------------------

All of my IGMs are dedicated to Charlie Wardick, who taught me LORD
Pascal programming along with how to use Jimmy Rose's A.N.G.E.L.
BBS door game tool-kit.

Another indirect dedication in all of my ANGEL-based IGMs is to
Jimmy Rose for his assistance with understanding how his A.N.G.E.L.
toolkit works.

1.0  DISCLAIMER:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

This is a BBS game written as a hobby. The only warranty given is
that the program will take up a small amount of disk space on your
computer's hard drive, and will run under all versions of Legend of
the Red Dragon that support DOS LORD IGMs.

I use the LORD v3.55 Player Database Format released with LORD
v3.55 by Seth Robinson in all of my DOS LORD programs. Therefore
I can not say if any of them will work with older version of
DOS LORD, such as v3.50 for example.
------------------------------------------------------------

Note: The LADY Script version of The NICE HAG is usable only with
versions 4.05pb - 4.08 Beta of LORD. It is also usable with the
32-bit Windows version of LORD - either LORD/32 v4.07 Beta or
v4.08 Beta.
=================================================================

NO OTHER WARRANTY IS HEREBY EXPRESSED, IMPLIED, OR SUGGESTED.
USE OF THIS PROGRAM IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

The Nice Hag IS A *FREEWARE* 'IN GAME MODULE' (IGM) FOR
LEGEND OF THE RED DRAGON (DOS LORD).

The HAGEDIT utility is also Freeware.

2.0: Info on DOS LORD:
----------------------
    DOS LORD v4.07 was officially released on Jun. 07, 2006.
    None of the 32-bit versions have been officially released.

    v4.08 Betas of LORD were released with ONE compilation in
    late September 2006 by Michael Preslar for DOS LORD,
    LORD/32, LORD for OS/2, and LORD for Linux. Then they were
    no longer available upon request to IGM authors and/or BBS
    sysops, a situation that has not changed since Sept. 2006.

    None of the LORD v4.08 programs have been officially
    released yet, as of early Sept. 2009.

3.0:  LORDMENU Information:    {Added 02/23/2009}
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

The LordMenu program is currently developed and supported by me.
I took over its development and support when it stopped working
correctly in 2006, and needed to be fixed. Which was done with
assistance from Dennis Collins. LordMenu v1.40 was officially
released on July 29th, 2007. Distribution was done on July
31th, 2007. And LordMenu v1.50 was offically released on
August 29th, 2008.

    February 2009 since the original release archive contained
    an older compilation of lordmenu.exe accidentally.

4.0:  IGM testing notes:
------------------------
  IGMs are only usable in DOS LORD and in LORD for Windows (LORD/32).
  The 32-bit LORD programs are unable to use DOS LORD IGM programs.

  All of my LORD IGMs testing is done using DOS LORD v4.08 Beta,
  which was briefly available publicly for a short time in late
  September 2006.

  All of my personal IGM development since July 2004 has been done under
  Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Service Pack 2, using Borland Pascal
  v7.01, in regards to DOS LORD programs. All of my LORD/32 programming
  is done using Virtual Pascal.

  All IGM development since mid-October 2008 has been under MS
  Windows XP Home Service Pack 3.

  HAGEDIT Testing: Done using Microsoft Windows XP SP2 and SP3.

  This IGM has been fully tested under LORD v3.55 through v4.07,
  and using the September 2006 compilation of LORD v4.08 Beta.

  The IGM is also being tested using DOS LORD V4.07 in a
  Synchronet BBS setup on my Win-XP system.

6.0:  Reporting IGM Crashes:
----------------------------
If you experience a crash while using the IGM, please send me
a capture log of your BBS session which most comm programs and
Telnet clients are able to generate. Zip it up in an archive
using Winzip, PKzip or some other ZIP-compatible utility, and
send it to me at ktidmore@bellsouth.net (or gtidmore@hiwaay.net).

Also include copy of the IGM's data files such as HAGUSAGE.TXT,
NICEHAG2.DAT, HAGTIME.DAT, HAGBACK.DAT, HAGPLAY.DAT, and
HAGEDIT.CFG.  Copies of the LORD game's play*.dat, log*.txt,
and error.log files, if included, will help with analyzing what
caused your IGM crash.
