Kenneth's Introduction:

I've been wanting to write an IGM ever since I registered
LORD. Seth Able's release of LORD 3.55 added a feature to
"stay" in other IGM's. With that feature in mind, I created
"Hiding in the Shadows". The idea is based on a Thieves Lair,
and there are many interesting things to do! Enjoy!
--------------------------------------

Intro Update:

Kenneth turned his IGM over to me in January 2004, and I started
updating it on Jan. 30, 2004 by recompiling its source code files
to get rid of the old IGM's RTE200 problem. This is my sixteenth
LORD project. I hope that you find the updated IGM worthwhile
and enjoyable. Donald.

-----------------------------------------------------
Shadows.CFG Info:

Line 1: LORDPath - Displays your LORD Directory Path. Is in
                   Upper-Case.
Line 2: BBS Name - Use your BBS Name, Web-site Name, or make up
                   something for this field.
Line 3: IGM Path - Displays path to where Hiding in the Shadows is
                   located. Also stored in upper-case.
Line 4: Sysop Handle - The LORD player name you use personally.
Is used to predicate various IGM functions during beta testing
so that only the beta tester, usually a BBS sysop, has
                   access/usage of them.
Line 5: Sysop Name - Use First and Last Name.

Line 6: Max Visits/Day. End-user/Sysop may choose between 1 and 5
during IGM configuration process. IGM is preset to disallow
more than 5 uses each day. Minimum setting is 1 use per day.

** See HitsWarn.txt for rules regarding Shadows.cfg file.
--------------------------------------------------------------

** IMPORTANT **

As of 05/12/2005, this IGM no longer will support any IGM Path
values that exceed 100 total spaces in length. This applies to
ALL data files used or accessed by H.I.T.S. If for some reason,
you have been using a directory structure that is longer than
100 spaces, you will have to make changes to your IGM usage.

===================================================================

Accessing the Usage Reports file:
=================================
You may directly access/view the Usage Reports file by
using the SHADCFG REPORT command from the DOS prompt.

That bypasses the normal main menu processing that is not needed
if you are just wishing to update and view the usage reports.

One requirement: You have to have a player database file in
order to view/create/update the IGM Usage Reports file. {02/06/2005}
================================================================

                   IGM Usage Notations:
                   ====================
1) If you rob the Vault and are caught without having paid the
Large Man for protection, you lose half of Gold and Gems.

Once a player has successfully robbed the Vault, they are
prevented from accessing the Vault again that day in later
visits. Players are allowed up to TWO chances per day to
rob the vault. But it is reduced to ONE chance if you succeed
   on that first try.

Note: If you go to the vault, and change your mind about
trying to enter a combination, that visit does not count.

   ----------------------------------------------------------------
05/09/05: HPs loss is now a mandatory 30% of your Max Hit-Points.
I ended practice of allowing players with low HPs to survive
the severe beating. Now if you go below 0 Hps, you are killed.

If you have a Fairy, he can save you from death ONCE per day.
If you have Conan's protection, nothing in the IGM can kill you,
and you are simply beaten unconscious.

Players will lose 10% of their Experience regardless of whether
they are rescued by Fairy or by Conan, if they are killed by the guards.

You also lose 50% of your Gold on Hand and Gems if you are captured
   trying to rob the vault.

** See HitsWarn.txt for further info about Vault Robberies.

2) The IGM only requires players to pay for protection one time
per day. If you visit Large Man and can't pay him, or reject
his protection, you are NOT allowed a second chance with him
   that day.

(HINT: Always see how much money you have BEFORE you enter
his office. And remember, the IGM has an ATM. It is not
located in Conan's office, so you don't risk loss of his
protection when you visit the ATM.)

Depending on Max Visits/Day setting, players may use the IGM
between ONE and FIVE times each day. The setting is established
   by end-user/sysop during IGM configuration.

3) Fairy Rescue. Only works in regard to player being killed by
Leland in the Hall of Illusion. Fairy may only rescue player ONE
time per day. If player has Large Man's protection, fairy rescue
is not applicable, since the player is rescued by Conan, the Large
Man. If player returns to IGM for further visit, does not have
Protection, has a Fairy, and they get killed by Leland, they will
remain dead until the next day.

If player is killed by Leland's guards a second time, and they
have a Fairy, the Grim Reaper will feed their corpse to the
Red Dragon. Randomly, the killed player may be fed to the Dragon
anyway, if the guards were too lazy to dig a grave.

** See HitsWarn.txt for further info about Vault robberies,
and execution by Leland's guards for committing adultery with
   Leland or his wife.

4) The IGM now uses ShadTime.Dat. If you still have an HitsTime.dat,
you will have to delete it manually.

5) During IGM usage, the IGM creates a copy of the Shadows.cfg file
which MAY NOT be tampered with or deleted while the IGM is running.
Doing so may cause the IGM to not work properly. The copy file is
automatically deleted when the IGM returns the player back to LORD.

6) Wishing Well: New Wishes are a) Horse, b) Orphan Child,
   c) Fairy, d) Hear Bard Sing Again; e) Women: Flirt with Bard
Again; Men: Flirt with Violet Again; f) 2 Player Fights,
   and G) Sex Change.

A short notice is written to lognow.txt whenever a player
uses the IGM's Wishing Well to get a Sex Change. The Stats
screen reports your current Sex Gender status.

The menu codes are all changed, as of 05/18/2005. Instead
of using 1-9, and A-J, as the IGM used to do, it now uses
A-S codes only. The only number code now in use is 0, which
remains the "Abort Wish" menu option. The new menu layout
may confuse players for awhile, but I felt a new layout was
needed, so get used to it.

Horse/Fairy notes: If you wish for Horse or Fairy and you
already have one, the igm simply gives you a replacement.
You are told in the Wishing Well Menu screen if you have
one or both. There is NO second chance wish granted by IGM
   in this situation.

Second Chance wish: Is only granted if the igm is unable
to grant a wish. Example. You have 32,000 Charm points and
wish for Charm. IGM can't grant that, so it will allow you
to come back to the Well later and make a substitute wish.

   -----------------------------------------------------------
Future wishes - these will be worked on in Summer 2005.
Not sure of month yet. May be mid/late June or July.

   1) 2nd chance to fight Master. 2) 2nd chance to Flirt with
Player. 3) Renewal of current skill class's Skill Use points.
   ===========================================================

** See HitsWarn.txt for further notes on Wishing Well event.

7) Free Room at Inn. If your player spouse is already asleep in a
room, you are granted permission to join them in the room for free.
The room rental price paid to Zelda or Alec will be refunded.

This IGM event is tied to the IGM's OUT files, so be VERY sure not
to delete them for any reason manually while the IGM is in usage.

Room rent fees were doubled in January 2005. If you can't
pay for a room, and don't qualify for a free room, then your
request for a room will be denied.

** See HitsWarn.txt for further notes on Room Rentals.

8) As of May 9th, 2005, there is a Special Stats listing. It
covers several LORD stats and several IGM stats, It is shown
at IGM entry when you select View Stats -- from the "Something
Scary Happens" event; and it is shown during IGM exit.

Neither of the Stats screens are shown at igm exit when the
player has exceeded the IGM's daily uses limit.

----------------------------------------------------------
For further data on IGM limits and rules see HitsWarn.txt.
==============================================================

                          Updating from Version 2.00:
                        =============================
Everyone should use HITS250.ZIP. Either a copy received
directly from me via email or downloaded from one of my
LORD programs distribution sites.

(1) Unzip files from HITS250.ZIP into current IGM directory,
    using over-write mode.

** Delete your old Shadplay.dat. Mandatory for updating
from v2.00, due to IGM player database changes.

WARNING: DO NOT IGNORE that statement! If you do, the
first thing that will happen when you run HITS v2.50 with
an v2.00 player database structure, is that it will crash.
        ----------------------------------------------------------

** Run SHADCFG, and go to Config Editor Menu. Verify
existing data. Choose a setting, between 1 and 5, for Max
Visits/Day. Use Quit/Save option, and return to Main Menu.
        Exit Shadcfg.exe.

(2) At Marty Blankenship's request, the IGM no longer writes
the version number in the IGM's 3rdparty.dat IGM entry
line. If you like having it, then add it manually.

If you do use version numbers, make sure the IGM is listed
    properly as v2.50.

If the 3rdparty.dat file was updated, and you use LORDMenu,
remember to update the data files it uses such as 3rdalt.txt.

Shadows.cfg now has 6 lines, and IGM allows all players to
do more than one visit per day, *IF* Max Visits/Day is set
higher than 1 by the sysop/end-user or BBS webmaster.

Individual IGM events continue to be usable just once a day,
such as Garden of Lust. Some such as ATM Service are usable
without limit (as long as you have Gold to pay Conan's fee.)

05/17/05: The maximum Experience points reward in Gardens
of Lust was changed from 1 Million to 5 Million exp. points.
==============================================================

                   Normal Installation Instructions:
                   ==================================
Unzip files from the HITS250.ZIP archive into a subdirectory
under your LORD game's directory.

IMPORTANT: Should you need to un-install a beta version, or
version 2.00, before you install/re-install v2.50, you will
need to backup ALL of your currently in-use OUT files in the
LORD directory. The un-install process automatically deletes
ALL OUT files it identifies as belonging to this IGM.

After you are finished installing or re-installing v2.50, you
can then restore the OUT files from those backups. That way
any player characters you, or your BBS users, have had "sleeping"
in the IGM will continue to have that status.

Reminder: DO NOT EVER run SHADCFG while the IGM is in use.
You could corrupt data files that are in use and cause the IGM
to malfunction and/or crash as a direct result.

Now run the SHADCFG.EXE program. The basic setup menus will
work and act, for the most part, just like they did with v2.00.
---------------------------------------------------------------

IF you have not run the program previously, the IGM will
ask you to choose from three options. (1) Create new SHADOWS.CFG
file. (2) Copy SHADOWS.CFG from another LORD game on your system.
Or (3) Quit using program.

Note: If there is a SHADOWS.CFG in the current directory, the IGM
will read the configuration fields from that file. Then it runs
the IGM Config Editor, which displays the values of the current
configuration data fields on-screen.

SHADCFG displays the data values read from Shadows.cfg
immediately after shadows.cfg is read.
=============================================

Usage Note: When configuration data already exists, and you are simply
verifying it is correct, it is not necessary to select and change any
of the config data lines. Simply select Quit/Save and move onward.

When a data line is highlighted -- it has a check mark symbol to the
left -- simply pressing ENTER lets you change the data shown. If you
press the ENTER key again without changing the data, the current data
continues to be used in shadows.cfg without change.

All of the text configuration entries -- LORD Path, IGM Path, BBS Name,
Sysop Handle, Sysop Name -- are displayed automatically in upper case.
============================================================

On the initial screen, which is shown ONLY if there is no
Shadows.cfg in the current IGM directory, you will see three
options, identified as A, B, and C.

Option A creates a new Shadows.cfg file. This runs the Auto-
Config process. The program will attempt to auto-detect the
location of your LORD Game directory, and assumes that the current
directory SHADCFG.EXE is running from, is the desired IGM install
directory.

If SHADOWS.EXE is NOT found in the current directory, the Setup
process will immediately terminate. SHADCFG will scan the current
directory for LORD.EXE. IF SHADCFG is unable to find LORD.EXE
there, the program will default to C:\INTERNET\LORD\ for the LORD
game location. If LORD.EXE is found there, the Auto-Config
process will end at that point.

Be SURE that you specify the correct location for LORD when you
reach the Configuration Menu screen.
============================================================

From initial screen, option B is used to copy a pre-existing HITS
IGM installation's SHADOWS.CFG file from a different directory
location.

Say you have LORD Game #1 in c:\LORD and the IGM is installed
there in c:\LORD\Shadows. The shadows.cfg file from that IGM
installation would be used initially for setting up the IGM in the
current location, which in this example is
c:\internet\LORD\shadows. From that point, SHADCFG will then run
the Config Editor process.
============================================================

Lastly from initial screen, option C exits SHADCFG. Use it if you
changed your mind about configuring/installing the IGM, or simply
want to try it out.
============================================================

          The IGM Configuration Editor process:

Choose Config option from Main Menu. Verify your LORD path is
shown correctly. If it is wrong, change it now. Type your
Name when prompted to do so. Registration line can either show
your actual name, or the name of a BBS/web-site.

On the third line, the IGM directory info is shown. It uses
the CURRENT directory Shadcfg.exe is run from. If the info
shown is NOT correct, change it to where you are installing
the IGM. (Use of IGM path started on 04/17/2004.)

Line 4 is Sysop Name. This is your first and last name whether
you are a BBS Sysop/Webmaster, or just a regular LORD player.

Line 5 is Sysop Handle. This is your PRIMARY LORD Character's
name, that you use when playing LORD. If you change your player's
LORD name between visits to the IGM, it will notice and automatically
update the SHADOWS.CFG file with the new LORD name you now use.

BBS Name, Sysop Name, and Sysop Handle are limited to maximum
length of 40 spaces, so they show up properly on-screen during
IGM usage or during usage of SHADCFG.EXE.

Line 6: Max Visits/Day. May be set between 1 and 5.
The IGM will not allow more than 5 visits per day. You can try
running the IGM additional times, but you are denied actual access.
         ------------------------------------

Follow on-screen instructions and enter data if none is shown
for an option, or if the data shown on-screen is not correct.

Be especially careful if you have multiple LORD games on your
computer that you have used the CORRECT LORD Path data, or some
strange stuff may occur during SHADCFG.EXE usage or when the
IGM is next used in a LORD IGM session. That applies equally
  to the IGM Path data.

  ===========================================================
Cursor Key usage: The Check Mark symbol next to a menu command line
indicates that command choice will be executed when you simply
  press the ENTER key.

Examples: When the check mark is besides the CONFIG line, and you
press the ENTER key, SHADCFG will run the Configuration process.
Similarly, when check mark is besides the INSTALL line, INSTALL
process is run when ENTER is pressed. And so on, for the Usage
Reports, Un-Install IGM, and Quit command lines.
  -------------------------------------------------------

Mouse usage: This is a 16-bit DOS program. It does not have
any support for computer mice in Shadows.exe or in Shadcfg.exe.
  ----------------------------------------------------------

Once you have verified the data shown in all five lines,
use the Quit option and save the IGM configuration data.
That concludes the IGM Configuration process.

  ==============================================================
The program will now process Install/Uninstall instructions.

During the 3rdparty.dat LORD file update process, you will be asked
if you wish to include the version number or not in the IGM entry.

SHADCFG will display the data that was written to the
3rdparty.dat file on-screen after the file has been updated.
  ---------------------------------------------------------------

Verify entries in your LORD game's 3rdparty.dat file. If using
LORDMenu or an IGM manager utility, update the appropriate data
  files used by the utility.

As of 01/31/04, the IGM no longer uses a Registration Code line.

Start your LORD game, and start playing the IGM.
================================================================

IGM Support: As of February 2004, I am directly supporting this
IGM. Version 2.00 was a fully recompiled IGM update that
eliminated the old RunTime Error 200 problem that the previous
    v1.xx version(s) had.

v2.00 had one major glitch: it did not work correctly on BBS
systems, due to it not transmitting data lines and prompts to
a remote user or correctly acquiring keyboard input from that
remote user. Stephen Gibbs identified the problems for me and
fixed them in September-October 2004, for which I am very thankful.

This version (2.50) DOES work correctly on BBS systems.

No support whatsoever is offered for usage of this IGM under
Linux, since I don't have a Linux system, or any Linux programming
    knowledge.

The DOS LORD version of this IGM will NOT work under 32-bit LORD.

---------------------------------------------------

BBS Support: I don't personally run a BBS, and neither does Kenneth
these days. But I have several friends who are long-time BBS
sysops, so if you have a BBS support question, I'm sure one of
them will be able to answer it. My primary BBS sysop beta tester
for v2.00-v2.50 igm development beta testing was Stephen Gibbs.
---------------------------------------------------

Support Notes for HITS v2.50:  {05/08/2005}
=============================
Sometime this summer, I will release a new update of the DOS LORD
IGM which has been recompiled with either the A.N.G.E.L. or MannDoor
toolkit. This version, 2.50, is the LAST one that uses DDIGM.
===============================================================

Operating System Note: I can only directly support users who are
running Microsoft Windows O.S.'s. I don't have Linux experience,
but if necessary, I can direct Linux users to BBS sysop friends
who can answer any questions that you may have about running this
IGM under non-Microsoft operating systems. If you are able to
run normal DOS apps under either OS/2 or Linux, then this program
may work fine under either Operating System.

--------------------------------------------------------
Both of the 32-bit versions of LORD are still in beta development
by Michael Preslar for Metropolis Gameport. Send any questions
about them to him at: mike@LORDlegacy.com.

As of May 18, 2005, only LORD/32 beta is able to run IGMs,
and so far none of those are ones that require usage of maint.bat.
    ------------------------------------------------------

Betas of LORD, LORD II, Planets: TEOS, and LORD/32 are
available from Michael Preslar using files@LORDlegacy.com
email account. One beta program per email message limit.

Subject must be either: Send Me LORD, Send Me LORD2, Send Me
TEOS, or Send Me LORD32. Requests are normally processed at
the end of each hour by an email "robot" program.

IGM Features:
   * Installs easier than any other IGM I've seen. (Kenneth).
SHADCFG.EXE features a never before seen attempt at
     making the sysop's job easier!

   * Uninstall option is provided. SHADCFG.EXE automatically
checks all OUT files in the LORD directory. If one was
made by SHADOWS.EXE, it is automatically deleted during
IGM un-installation. The OUT file is used to tell LORD
whether a player is asleep in an IGM or just visiting there.

WARNING: Once you delete OUT files, there is NO recovery of
the files unless you have them backed up in an archive file
     or backup sub-directory.

   * Time slices released for DESQview, Windows, and OS/2

   * Allows player to enter between 1 and 5 times per day.

   * If player "wakes up" in the IGM, they are given a choice of
staying inside the IGM or returning to LORD immediately.

   * Players only need to pay the Large Man, "Conan", for his
protection one time per day. If the player returns to the
IGM again that day, Conan recognizes them, and does not ask
for protection money again. To be sure you are protected,
simply visit him in his office on repeat visits.

   * All player values are kept fair. Rewards and penalties are
sometimes based on Game Level, or some other LORD stat.

   * This IGM times user out after 3 minutes of keyboard inactivity.
Setting is not controll-able by the IGM. It is part of the DDIGM
bbs door tool-kit that HITS v2.50 was created with.

For those late night gamers that fall asleep in an IGM,
most IGM's wait for input forever!

   * LORD "Clean Mode" compliant. Lay Points rewards and related
Lognow.txt News notices are processed only when players have
less than 31,999 Lay Points, and LORD is NOT in Clean Mode.

Nothing else in the IGM is based on LORD's Clean Mode status.

   * All IGM display statements and messages written to LORD's
lognow.txt assume that the player is an adult. No explicit
sexual wording is ever used by my IGMs.

   * LORD "Swear Patrol" compliant (BADWORDS.DAT)

   * LORD color codes usage is supported -- except in the IGM's
     shadows.cfg configuration file.

   * Writes INFO.<player #> to reflect time used in IGM.

Too many IGMs give back the time used while in them because
they do not comply with Seth's request of writting the time
left back to INFO.?. This IGM takes the time from the user.

   * IGM orients some dialogue and character names/sex pronouns
(him/her, etc) so that male player encounters a lady, and
the female player meets a man, in places like the Garden
of Lust, or the Hall of Illusion.

If player obtains Sex Change via Wishing Well, the IGM
changes how it interacts with the player. Example: You
enter IGM as a man. You go to Garden and meet Leilani.
You get Sex Change. Afterwards, every NPC character
will recognize you as a woman and act accordingly.

   * All primary IGM events are usable one time per day. That
applies to Hall of Illusion, The Corridor, Wishing Well,
and Garden of Lust primarily. Events such as ATM Service
and Getting a Room are not covered by this usage limit.

   * If an event allows you to enter and leave without actually
doing anything, you should be able to re-use that event
later in same visit or in a repeat visit later in the day.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------
Note: If you are denied access to an IGM event and have not used
it earlier in the day, that is an IGM glitch that I failed to find.
So if that happens to you, please report it to me via email or
postal mail or via Fidonet mail. I can be reached on Fidonet
via NetMail, LORD Echo, or the DoorGames Echo.

SHADTIME.DAT - Tracks time/date use of IGM. Used for Maintenance.

HS-USAGE.TXT - Contains two IGM Usage Reports. Updated after
each IGM usage. Recreated at start of each new
LORD game day automatically by the IGM. Can be
generated using the Shadcfg.exe program also.

                 ** Requires presence of a shadplay.dat file.

HITS-CFG.DAT - Backup of Shadows.cfg. REQUIRED by IGM.
File is created/updated each time the IGM runs, and it
is deleted automatically during IGM exit process.

** Do NOT tamper with this file during IGM execution!! **

ERROR.LOG - Records any Run-time error messages that the IGM
creates during IGM execution in a LORD game. File
is stored in the LORD Game's directory.

 --------------------------------------------------------
Note: If you have an IGM problem occur, and nothing is written
to the ERROR.LOG file, please let me know. ERROR.LOG only records
events that occur while you are using LORD or are using an IGM.
 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Detailed Setup Notes:
Step 1: Make a new directory for Hiding in the Shadows IGM:
(Note: If your LORD game is in a different location, substitute
that directory path for the following directory names.)

			 MD C:\LORD\SHADOWS

-- Press the keyboard's ENTER key to execute the command. It
assumes that your LORD game is in C:\LORD directory. As long as
other IGM files are not using HS*.* or SHAD*.* filenames that
H.I.T.S. uses, the IGM can be run from a directory containing
other IGMs, or from the LORD directory.
        -----------------------------------------------------------------

Step 2: Unzip HITS250.ZIP in the new directory:

          PKUNZIP HITS250.ZIP C:\LORD\SHADOWS

To overwrite pre-existing files, use the -O parameter like this:

          PKUNZIP HITS250 c:\LORD\shadows -o

          PKUNZIP HITS250 c:\LORD\shadows -n <-- Will also work.

If you are inside the HITS sub-directory, you do not need
to type the DOS path when using PKUNZIP. And you do not
have to type ".ZIP" portion of the command line.

Note: If you are using WinZIP, etc, direct the program to
unzip the IGM archive's files to the subdirectory you wish
to place the IGM's files in. If you are using WZUNZIP,
then commands like these two will work fine:

         Example: WZUNZIP HITS250 -O or WZUNZIP HITS250 -N
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3: Change to the directory the IGM has been unzipped
              into. Then run SHADCFG.EXE:

Hit Enter to create a new config file. Hopefully the auto-config
will find LORD.EXE. It checks your path directories, and any
parent directories above the current direectory. If it finds
LORD.EXE (it'll tell you) and then just hit ENTER, and use the
I option to Install. Then answer YES or NO to the "Announce in
daily happenings" question, and you are DONE! Whoa! A self-
configuring IGM? Geee... if only they ALL worked that way!

NOTES: Where the Config program directs you to enter Sysop Name,
enter your First and Last Name. Do NOT ever use LORD color codes
with either of the six configuration variables. They have to be
pure ASCII text. Or in the case of the sixth variable, it has
to be a integer number (such as 5).

The program will automatically upper-case the LORD Path and IGM
Path values, before writing them to the SHADOWS.CFG data file. -
     Donald.
     -----------------------------------------------------------------

Step 4: Manual configuration (AKA, that darn auto-config is
             broken!):

Well, I tried! ;( Sorry it didn't work for ya! You must have
LORD hidden really good! (After all, I don't search all HD's
and dir's!) Anyways, in the rare case that you didn't put the
IGM in a subdir of LORD and/or LORD is not in your path, then do
     this:

     Run SHADCFG,

Hit the ENTER key to configure the paths. This can also be done
     to override the detected path.

Hit "Q" to quit and save. It checks the paths to make sure
everything is ok. If there is some problem with the entered
path, it will say so. Select "I" from the main menu to install.
Then "Q" once more to quit SHADCFG, and you should be set!

     =================================================================
IGM configuration will not work unless you have BOTH Shadcfg.exe
and Shadows.exe in the current directory you are installing the
IGM from. If either EXE file is missing from the directory you
told the IGM to use for installation, the program will terminate
     with a warning notice.

IGM installation will only work if the config program locates
LORD.exe in the directory you specify LORD is located in. If
LORD.exe is not found, the config program will exit with a
     warning notice.
   -----------------------------------------------------------------

The Last Step: Give it a try! (Just for SYSOP fun!):

       START 0  { Starts up LORD game using Node 0. }

     ** from LORD's directory! **

Now start playing LORD to your heart's content. And don't
forget to register LORD if you really love it.
 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Notation for users of MS Windows XP, and possibly Windows NT/2000.

-- In the Windows XP DOS emulation, it will not allow you to do
commands from the DOS prompt such as "START 0" as listed above. That
is because the operating system thinks you are trying to run a
 Windows program named "0".

Instead you will have to type START.BAT 0 and similar commands,
or use this solution: Setup a different batch file for each node
you are using. Then type START-1 to execute a batch file for running
LORD on Node 1 and so forth.

 Thanks - by Kenneth:
** Screaming Eagle - Inspiration when it came down to writing
the documentation. The many hours of help in spell checking,
and being a human dictionary for me! Thanks man! I'll be
the first to buy your great novels when you are that world
    renowned writer! :)

** Boesmanni - Well, if you didn't beg me to finish this IGM,
I probbably wouldn't have! Also, that VERY helpful female
    perspective and stuff! =)

** Seth Able - For the totally *awesome* door games! Not to
mention the PLAYER.DAT format! Also, for answering ANY
question I asked (no matter how stupid) and your GREAT help
with testing, suggesting, etc.! Thanks! Mails? :>

** Mike Woltz - BCShare, great file sharing routines!
-------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks - from Donald:
Rob McGee, Joe Kinjin, Michael Everett, and other members of
my beta testers team in 2004 and 2005.

Stephen Gibbs: For working on IGM in September-November 2004
when version 2.00 turned out to have usabilitiy problems when
played on a BBS over a com port modem connection. And for
testing later updates to the IGM in subsequent months.

Steven Lorenz: He released DDIGM v1.01 which this IGM uses.

Scott Baker: He released DDPLUS v7.1. Its documentation tells
programmers how to use DDPLUS processes that are used by DDIGM.

Michael Preslar: If it was not for him, I would not have started
doing LADY Script programming. He also encouraged me to relearn
Pascal and do LORD IGM Programming in early 2002. Lastly, LORD
would have died without his interest in the game. Certainly,
there would be no 32-bit versions of LORD even in existence, if he
had not convinced Metropolis Gameport to authorize their creation.

Seth Robinson: When I started using the Internet, he would always
try to answer questions I had about LORD. And he was and is a good
friend to have as a LORD programmer.

 Troubleshooting:
Q: Hiding in the Shadows ends abruptly or says "Runtime Error
002"! <Error checking is done, so this should never happen!>

A: Most likely, it cannot access a file needed for it to run.
The files accessed by Hiding in the Shadows are:

Player Database: SHADPLAY.DAT, IGM Usage Report: HS-USAGE.TXT,
time/use maint file: ShadTime.DAT, IGM Config file:
SHADOWS.CFG, and IGM Gossip file: SHADTALK.TXT.

The IGM will NOT run if you do not have a Shadows.cfg file.

If you don't have a shadplay.dat or shadtime.dat file when
you enter the IGM, they are created automatically. And if
shadplay.dat somehow is deleted during IGM usage, it should
be recreated automatically. But in that case, it will only
know about the current player. Data on other players will
        have been lost.

Do not ever run SHADCFG.EXE while someone is using the IGM
in a LORD game session. And don't manually delete the IGM's
data files while running either SHADCFG.EXE or SHADOWS.EXE.
Lastly, never manually edit SHADOWS.CFG while either program
is running. You should ALWAYS use SHADCFG.EXE to change values
        in the IGM's configuration file.

The IGM also accesses these three LORD data files:

        Player.dat, Lognow.txt, and Garden.txt. If Lognow.txt or
Garden.txt are missing, LORD should recreate them when it
resumes control after the IGM session ends. The IGM will
not cause player.dat corruption, so if something happens
to that file, it is not the IGM's fault.
        -------------------------------------------------------------

Note: While using the IGM, do not EVER write-protect any of the IGM's
       data files - SHADPLAY.DAT, ShadTime.DAT, SHADTALK.TXT, or
       SHADOWS.CFG.

If the IGM tries to access a write-protected file, it will quit
working with an RTE 5 "File access denied" error message.

Which should be recorded in LORD's ERROR.LOG data file,
which is stored in the LORD directory.

       Don't ever write-protect either SHADOWS.EXE or SHADCFG.EXE
since they may not work properly in that situation.

If IGM causes any other error, it should be recorded in
ERROR.LOG. When notifying me of such problems, please be
detailed in what information was recorded by the IGM in
       that data file. Donald.

Note 1: I also updated the LORD Gambling Casino IGM, created by
Tobin Fricke. It was turned over in June 2004 to Chris Martino
(www.oddware.org) for him to continue support and development.

Note 2: Charlie Wardick and I did some work, never released
officially, on Paul Mullins' Realm of Lore LORD IGM in 2004,
after I adopted the IGM from Paul. I decided in early April
2005 that I was not able to handle continued IGM work on R.O.L.,
so I turned the IGM over to Chris Martino. He is handling all
future support and development of the IGM.

Note 3: One more IGM is scheduled for creation in early 2005
by me: The Werewolf II will be an authorized recreation of
  Jay Hodges' IGM.

Note 4: I am also thinking of doing a recreation of Tommy Baker's
The Graveyard IGM. I recently learned that he lost the original
IGM's source code and reg. key generator program. So he can't
support the old IGM in any way. If I can get his permission, I
will create The Graveyard II later this year, in 2005.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Question: Will there be any other tribute IGMs?

Answers: Possibly. None will be done for any other IGMs made
by Trevor Herndon. I either don't have the ability to play
every event in an igm, or the igm is one that I have very little
knowledge of, or interest in reproducing. I do plan to make
two other tribute IGM recreations: One is already in progress,
and the other I probably will start in summer 2005: A third
IGM recreation is dependent on getting the old IGM authors's
  permission, as is explained below.

1: Werewolf II project: Recreation in progress of Jay Hodges'
old Werewolf IGM. It is the only IGM he wrote that I know the
basics of how most of the IGM features work - which is necessary
  for doing a feature-for-feature recreation.

2: Shauna, Princess of Sorcery II: I probably will make a recreation
of this IGM, created by David Simmons, later in Summer 2005.

3: The Graveyard II project: I am working through Doug Rhea to get
into contact with Tommy BBaker via his mother. As of May 18th, 2005,
I have not heard anything from Baker or Rhea. Without the author's
permission, I will not do a recreation of the old IGM. That is just
something I don't think is ethical.

Notations regarding upcoming Lord/32 version of this IGM:
==========================================================

Chris Martino is handling creation of 32-bit IGM versions of my IGMs
and will handle their support until he's taught me how to do so myself.

	 32-bit versions, currently in development:
-- Kiteria's Lord Bank, Love Shack II, The Nice Hag, Ruined Castle,
Turgeon's House, Violet's Cottage II. He is also handling 32-bit
version of the ChasWare LORD Player Editor utility for me.

32-bit versions, will be developed soon:
Hiding In The Shadows. All of Jason Brown's IGMs, the RHP Toolkit
utilities, and my Forest Outhouse IGM.

32-bit versions - will be developed sometime this summer:
The Pawn Shop, The Gem Trader. Doofus the Gnome.

I have no idea when initial development work will end on the
Doofus the Gnome IGM. When it has, a 32-bit version will be made,
either by myself or by Chris.

The Werewolf II project is going slowly because I've not had a lot
of interest in typing lots of text from JPG snapshots taken of the
old IGM's data screens. Whenever it is released officially for DOS
Lord usage, a 32-bit version will be prepared afterwards.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Contact Info: Chris Martino.
	Web-site: http://www.oddware.org/
	Email: sfyl138@comcast.net

Regardless of when it its development is finished, the HITS/32 IGM
will not be officially released until Michael Preslar authorizes
the release of LORD/32 for Metropolis Gameport. He does not want
the 32-bit IGMs released until that time, and Chris Martino and I
will do as he requested.
