CONVHITS v1.10 Information  {Revised December 31, 2006}

** Official release was done on December 31th, 2006.
** Distribution was done on December 31th, 2006.

Compile Date: December 31, 2006.

This utility program was created by Donald Tidmore.
===========================================================

This utility was created by me on October 21th, 2005. It is
based on the CONVBANK.EXE utility for Kiteria's LORD Bank IGM
created for me by my friend Stephen Gibbs in October 2005.

Version 1.00 was never released and is no longer supported.

Usage: It converts a SHADPLAY.DAT, which has to be named
"HS25PLAY.DAT", from H.I.T.S. v2.50 into a new SHADPLAY.DAT
file that is fully usable with H.I.T.S. version 2.70.

If you are already using H.I.T.S.'s current betas, then you
do NOT need to use CONVHITS.EXE, unless you just want to
see how it works. Be warned: This program is NOT compatible
with HITS v2.58+ betas which use a different player database
format than was used by HITS v2.70 when it was released in
May 2005.

Usage Instructions: * READ THEM!!! **
---------------------------------------------
(1) Be warned: This program is NOT compatible with HITS
v2.51+ betas which used a different player database format
than was used by HITS v2.70 when it was released in May 2005.

(2) When used, CONVHITS.EXE replaces any current SHADPLAY.DAT
with its output file. Always make a backup of the current
SHADPLAY.DAT before using CONVHITS.EXE.

(3) You MAY ONLY use this program under this specific situation.

CONVHITS.EXE is *ONLY* for use by people upgrading from HITS
v2.50 to v2.70. It is NOT for usage with HITS v2.20 or earlier
versions under ANY circumstance whatsoever.

It is for use only in a version upgrade where you intend to
keep old players records from your last v2.50 HITS LORD IGM
session, for the purpose of protecting data on which players
are asleep in the IGM currently.

OK, do the following steps:
=============================
1) Acquire HITS270.ZIP and CONVHS11.ZIP from my web-site, or
from one of the other recommended distribution sites listed
in SHADOWS.TXT.

I recommend strongly that you get the program directly from my
Camelot LordNews FDN or Castle Camelot web-site. CONVHS11.ZIP
only contains the actual CONVHITS program files, whereas the
HITS270.ZIP archive contains all of the IGM's program files
including those for CONVHITS.EXE and SHADEDIT.EXE.

2) Using CONVHS11.ZIP, unzip its contents into your HIDING IN
THE SHADOWS game directory. If you use HITS270.ZIP, be *SURE*
that you ONLY extract the CONV*.* files at this time. !!!

3) Run the Hiding In The Shadows v2.50. Do anything you wish to
do inside, and then exit the program. Then exit LORD as well.

4) Change to H.I.T.S. directory. Print copy of HS-USAGE.TXT file
just to be sure you don't lose track of igm users' record values.
Copy your v2.50 format SHADPLAY.DAT to HS25PLAY.DAT. Backup
the existing IGM files into a temporary sub-directory.

5) Using HITS270.ZIP - obtained from me via email, or downloaded
from a BBS or Internet web-site, - unzip its files using
over-write mode on top of your existing H.I.T.S. v2.50 program
files.

Be warned, this REPLACES all v2.50 program files with the new
ones for HITS version 2.70. At this time, you can delete the
HS25EDIT.* files if you are using them. Everyone has to use
SHADEDIT.EXE v1.00 with HITS v2.70.

6) Run this command from the DOS prompt: CONVHITS

It will read the HS25PLAY.DAT binary database file. It reports
the number of database records it converts, along with showing
the LORD Names of each igm user. Then it terminates. Entire
process takes a couple of minutes or less.

I've added a pause after each batch of 20 records is processed,
to allow the user to keep track of what the program has done.

7) Regarding SHADEDIT, you are to use the files in either
HITS270.ZIP or SHADED10.ZIP. If you are using HITS270.ZIP,
unzip ONLY the SHADEDIT.* files at this time.

Run SHADEDIT.EXE player database editor, version 1.00. Verify
that all of your igm database records are valid amounts. If they
all look fine on-screen, there is no need to use the printout of
the HS-USAGE.TXT file. Once you know all of the records contain
valid data, exit SHADEDIT.

8) That completes the Player Database Conversion process.

Once you have finished the Upgrade process listed in SHADOWS.TXT,
you may now resume normal usage of the Hiding In The Shadows igm.

End of Notes for CONVHITS.EXE usage.
