****: SHADEDIT v1.10 Player Database Editor Docs:
Stored separately in the SHADEDIT.TXT file.
-----------------------------------------------------

SHADEDIT.EXE v1.10 Information         {10/03/2007 edit}

Compile Date: October 03, 2007.

Status: v1.10 was officially released on Oct. 03rd, 2007.
------------------------------------------------------------

This utility program was created by Donald Tidmore.
SHADEDIT is based upon the Chasware LPEdit utility.

This program is ONLY usable with Hiding In The Shadows v3.00,
or with its v2.75+ betas. If you are using H.I.T.S. v2.70, then
you MUST use ShadEdit v1.00 with that program.
===========================================================

Section 1: SHADEDIT USAGE NOTES:
------------------------------------------------------------
Note 1: For access to revise either the LORD Player Number
or Spouse Number fields, use the command SHADEDIT /DEBUG
to run the Player Database Editor utility. ** READ the
Warning about this event's usage before using it!! **
  ===========================================================

Notes 2: No version of SHADEDIT, other than v1.10, can be
used with Hiding In The Shadows v3.00, or with its betas.
  =========================================================

As of 10/04/2007, everyone is to use SHADED11.ZIP instead
of SHADWORK.ZIP. Or you are to use HITS300.ZIP which
contains all of the SHADEDIT and CONVHITS program files.
  ----------------------------------------------------------

** Obtain copy of the SHADED11.ZIP archive. Primary
distribution sources are my Castle Camelot, Camelot
LordNews FDN web-sites. Along with the BBS Archives
web-site and the NightfallGames web-site. The files
     are also available from ftp.legendarydragons.com.

See SHADEDIT.ZIP for documentation files updates that I
periodically post to the Castle Camelot web-site.

  2) Unzip all files from SHADED11.ZIP into your IGM directory,
     using overwrite mode.  E.g.:  pkunzip -n SHADED11.ZIP

  3) Change into the H.I.T.S. IGM directory. Verify that
you have a current SHADPLAY.DAT file. If you don't, then
     you can't use SHADEDIT.EXE.

The player database only tracks ONE day of IGM use. Since
this IGM is one that allows players to sleep in its Inn,
some database records will be from previous IGM usage days.

SHADEDIT can NOT be used without a SHADPLAY.DAT file.
     ---------------------------------------------------------

Exception: You can rename H.I.T.S.'s SHADBACK.DAT player
database backup file to SHADPLAY.DAT. Do so with caution
since the files MIGHT sometime not use the player database
     structure.

WARNING: SHADBACK.DAT *MUST* be dated on Apr.06, 2007 or
later in order for it to be usable in this fashion.

If you need assistance, contact me at ktidmore@bellsouth.net
for further explanations and detailed usage instructions.

  4) The first time you run the utility, it will ask you for
the path to the H.I.T.S. IGM directory. Type it in,
and press ENTER to exit the dialog box prompt. SHADEDIT.CFG
file will be created in that directory.

  5) Run SHADEDIT.EXE. If a config file is not in the directory
you run it from, it will ask you to create one - as noted
above. If config file is found, it then checks for
existence of SHADPLAY.DAT file. If one is not found,
program will give error message and quit working.

SHADEDIT has only one screen of data. It shows database
fields in the order they are listed in the player database
record structure (usually). Each value, with two
exceptions, may be set to any value that is valid for it.

The Lord Player Number field is display-only. That is
because I don't see any valid reason to allow users to
fiddle around the LORD Player Number field.

The IGM's Spouse Number field is also display-only. There
is no simple way for SHADEDIT to verify Spouse Number info,
that is changed by the program's user.
     ----------------------------------------------------------

NOTES: SHADOWS3.EXE is the ONLY program that is normally
allowed to alter a player record's Player Number field, in
regards to the Hiding In The Shadows IGM.

     --------------------------------------------------------
Exception: If the utility is run using the /DEBUG
parameter, then the user is allowed to modify the value of
the LORD Player Number field, and/or the Spouse Number
     field.

The user *MUST* use extreme caution in doing *ANY* changes
to this field while using the SHADEDIT.EXE utility.

Do *NOT* mess with the LORD Player Number variable's value
UNLESS YOU KNOW ABSOLUTELY that it is invalid. Do *NOT*
change a player's Spouse Number variable either unless
you are SURE you know what it is. It should always be
the same value as the current player's Married_To field
is in the LORD player.dat file.

Use either DOS LORD's LORDCFG.EXE Player Database Editor
or my Chasware LPEdit v1.40 utility to obtain the correct
values *BEFORE* you try to change either of the two IGM
     database stats' values.

The IGM uses very specific program code in its IGM
Maintenance process for correcting an invalid LORD Player
Number stat's value, or an invalid Spouse Number stat. In
the latter's case, it can change often since marriages in
     LORD are not permanent.

Since SHADEDIT is not designed to access the NPC marriage
data files (MARRAGE.DAT and MARBARD.DAT) it has no way to
know if a Spouse Number value is wrong or not.

Use SHADEDIT to do changes to these two stats *ONLY* if you
are ABSOLUTELY sure that you know what you are doing!!!
     ---------------------------------------------------------

  6) When you exit SHADEDIT, it will resave the SHADPLAY.DAT
file so that any changes you made will be accessible to
     the IGM.

  7) If you Delete a Player's record, the ACTUAL deletion from
the player database is handled by the IGM when it runs
New Day processing. To force the IGM to do New Day, for
purposes of testing Player Deletion, first backup the
database file - so you can restore data later if needed.
Then delete the SHADTIME.DAT file and enter the IGM.

The IGM will then do New Day processing and create a
brand new player database, which will only contain the
current player's record and records for any players
who are asleep in the Lair's Inn.
     -------------------------------------------------------

Revised Delete Record process to NOT alter the player's
Lord Player Number field. That turned out to not be
a good idea, at least for this specific IGM. 10/02/07 note.

SHADEDIT.TXT file was created on Sept. 10, 2005.

Data editing notes: 10/03/2007
--------------------------------
Changed editor to use 0-4,000 range for Forest Fights, 0-25 range
for Player Fights, and 0-40 range for Adoptions. Range for
Forest Fights is high because if player is granted a Horse by a
Wish, he/she is granted an increase in Forest Fights. Adoptions
range is based on player wishing for Children 10 times and
getting 1-4 kids per wish.
--------------------------------------------------------------

End of Notes for SHADEDIT usage.
