Compiled with Borland Pascal v7.01

Uses A.N.G.E.L. v1.00 by Jimmy Rose and Andy Stewart.
  ANGEL or A.N.G.E.L stands for Atlantis Networking Game Library.

Uses ChasWare code library routines developed by Charlie Wardick.
==============================================================

Dedications: The SHADEDIT utility is dedicated to Michael
Everett and Kenneth Padgett. The other HITS IGM files --
CONVHITS.EXE and SHADOWS3.EXE - do not use dedications.
==============================================================

As of 10/04/2007, all users are to use the HITS300.ZIP,
CONVHS12.ZIP, and SHADED11.ZIP official distribution archives
instead of the beta archives SHADWORK.ZIP, CONVHITS.ZIP, and
SHADEDIT.ZIP.  Donald.
==============================================================

1.00: Various Important Notations:
========================================================

SHADCFG.EXE is no longer in use. This IGM's INSTALL, REMOVE,
CONFIG, and REPORT commands are handled internally by the
SHADOWS3.EXE program. The IGM now uses SHADOWS3.ANS instead
of SHADOWS.ANS.
-------------------------------------------------------------

The IGM's SHADOWS3.EXE and SHADEDIT.EXE programs all use the
player database structure designed on Jan. 15th, 2007.
-------------------------------------------------------------

The IGM now uses a SHADOWS3.DAT IGM Configuration file, as of
Apr. 06, 2007. It uses the same structure as v2.70 did,
but has one additional line for Max Wishes/Day Limit.

SHADOWS3.DAT has 7 lines, and the IGM allows all players to
do more than one visit per day, *IF* Max Visits/Day is set
higher than 1 by the sysop/end-user or BBS webmaster.

Line 7 is for Max Wishes/Day Limit. It can be set up to 10,
by the sysop/end-user. It can NOT be set to Zero.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Most of the IGM events continue to be usable just once a day,
such as Garden of Lust. Some such as ATM Service are usable
without limit (as long as you have Gold to pay Conan's fee.)

Events like Sell Children for Gems only work if you have
Children, AND as long as your Gems pouch is not full.

The Wishing Well is now designed to allow multiple wishes
per day on a normal basis. However, sysops are free to set
Max Wishes/Day Limit to 1, if they wish to do so. In which
case, Wishing Well works the same way it did in HITS v2.70.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Room rent fees charged by Zelda are 500 Gold * Game Level.
The maximum fee charged by Zelda is capped at 6,000 Gold, as
of 12/29/2006. Alec's Room Rent fee is 1,000 Gold * Game Level.
The maximum fee charged by Alec is 12,000 Gold, as of 12/29/2006.

If player is married to another warrior who is asleep in the IGM,
Alec will inform him/her that they are in another room. He
escorts the player to their spouse's room, and refunds their Room
Rental Fee to them.

New Events: Added early October 2007:
----------------------------------
Armory and Weapons Shop. They are based upon the events
from Trevor Herndon's Castle of L.O.R.D. IGM, using its names
for weapons and armour (with a few revisions). The actual
dialogue used in the two events is based upon The Village Hut.

Players entering the IGM from the Other Places menu in LORD
now get a 25% chance of finding a magic amulet. If found, it
grants immediate entry into the Lair, so the player does not
have to meet with Alec. Otherwise, players have to meet with
him as usual. Players who are "waking up" in the IGM were
granted a bypass from the "Meet Alec" event over a year ago.
===========================================================

2.00: Update from HITS v2.70 to v3.00 Instructions:
===============================================
  Step 1: Player Database Conversion:

  1) Using the HITS v2.70 IGM files, run HITS v2.70 in LORD
  to update its SHADPLAY.DAT player database file, and its
  HS-USAGE.TXT usage reports file. Exit the IGM, *AND* exit
  the LORD game completely. That is mandatory.

  2) Make a copy of SHADPLAY.DAT as HS27PLAY.DAT, and write-
  protect the file to guard against accidental deletions. Make a
  copy of the HS-USAGE.TXT file. Optionally, print the file for
  reference later. Make backups of *ALL* OUT files in the LORD
  directory.

  3) Unzip ONLY the CONVHITS.* files from either CONVHS12.ZIP
  or HITS300.ZIP into your HITS IGM directory, using overwrite
  mode.  E.g.:  pkunzip CONVHS12 convhits.* conv*.*  -n

  Also unzip the SHADEDIT.* files from the SHADED11.ZIP or
  HITS300.ZIP archives.  E.g.:  pkunzip SHADED11 SHADED*.* -n

  4) Run the CONVHITS.EXE utility v1.20. It will read each
  record inside the HS27PLAY.DAT file, and rewrite them to use
  the HITS v3.00 player database structure. CONVHITS writes each
  revised record to a new SHADPLAY.DAT file. When it finishes,
  it displays a summary of what was done, and then it terminates.
  Deleted records are NOT transferred from the old database file
  to the new one.

  5) Using ONLY SHADEDIT v1.10, visually verify that all of the
  records in the new SHADPLAY.DAT file are all right. Then exit
  the program.

  Make a backup of the new SHADPLAY.DAT file, and write-protect
  it temporarily. Make sure to update all OUT files that
  ============================================================

  Step 2:  OUT Files handling.

  The OUT files used by HITS v2.70 use a format that is different
  from what is used by HITS v3.00, starting with v2.82 beta.

  Line 1 of an OUT file created by Hiding In the Shadows has
  not changed. It either says: is visiting at "Hiding In The
  Shadows", or it says: is sleeping at "Hiding In The Shadows"

  Line 2 only exists if the player is sleeping in the IGM. In
  v2.70, it says:  ProgPath+SHADOWS.EXE * /WAKEUP  -- where
  ProgPath is the IGM directory path.

  Ex.: C:\BP7\SHADOWS\UNITS\SHADOWS.EXE * /WAKEUP

  In vv3.00, the out files use a different format:

  C:\BP7\SHADOWS3\UNITS\SHADOWS3.EXE /N* /GC:\INTERNET\LORD\ \WAKEUP

  Each OUT file that refers to SHADOWS.EXE * /WAKEUP has to be
  edited manually to use the v3.00 syntax listed above.
  Alternately, just delete the OUT files used by HITS v2.70 if
  you are not willing to deal with the OUT files conversion
  process.

  Make backup of the edited OUT files so they can be restored if
  the HITS v2.70 un-install process deletes them.

  Using HITS v2.70's SHADCFG program, you now have to un-install
  version 2.70. This will probably result in the deletion of
  all OUT files created by HITS v2.70.

  Using SHADEDIT, toggle "Asleep in Lair Inn?" option to YES
  for each player that you know is asleep in the HITS v2.70 IGM.

  The HS-USAGE.TXT file generated by HITS v2.70 when it was
  used for the last time will provide the needed info.
  =========================================================

  STEP 3:  Configuration file Update:

  Run SHADOWS3 CONFIG. It will update your current SHADOWS3.DAT
  file to include the new Max Wishes/Day Limit value.

  Visually verify the file after exiting SHADOWS3.EXE and
  make sure that all values are correct, such as the ones
  for LORD Path and IGM Path. Make sure there are 7 lines
  in the file.
  =========================================================

  STEP 4: Deletion of HITS v2.70 files:

  You can now delete all files used by HITS v2.70 *EXCEPT*
  for SHADOWS3.DAT, SHADPLAY.DAT, and HS-USAGE.TXT.

  Delete these files:  SHADOWS.TXT, SHADOWS.DIZ, SHADOWS.EXE,
  SHADOWS.ANS, SHADCFG.EXE, and HS2-BACK.DAT.

  The HITSWARN.TXT file was replaced by SHADWARN.TXT.
  The HS2-BACK.DAT file was replaced by SHADBACK.DAT.
  ==============================================================

  STEP 5: Install Hiding In The Shadows v3.00:

  At this time, unzip all of the files inside HITS300.ZIP
  using over-write with new files mode.
     Ex.:  pkunzip hits300 -n  or wzunzip -n hits300

  Run SHADOWS3 INSTALL to re-install the IGM into your LORD
  game. If you are using LordMenu, update its data files.

  This concludes the v2.70 to v3.00 update process.

  Some of this info is explained in more detail in the revised
  CONVHITS.TXT file, which will NOT be included in this file.

  Make sure you are using LordMenu v1.40, which was officially
  released on July 29th, 2007; Distribution done on July 31th,
  2007.

3.00:  H.I.T.S. v3.00 Installation section:
============================================================

  IGM Installation, Configuration Change, and IGM Removal Notes:

  SHADOWS3 INSTALL - Runs the IGM Installation process.

  SHADOWS3 CONFIG - Allows user to change Sysop Handle, Max
                     Visits/Day, and Max Wishes/Day to new or
                     different settings.

  SHADOWS3 REPORT - Generates new/updated IGM usage reports file

  SHADOWS3 REMOVE - Runs the IGM un-installation process.
  =============================================================

  Hiding In The Shadows -- Configuration Process:
  ======================================
  1) Run SHADOWS3 Config.  Follow on-screen instructions.

  -- Max Visits per Day. Range is 1-10.

  -- Max Wishes per Day. Range is 1-10.
     Controls # of trips one can make to the Wishing Well.

  -- Sysop's Lord name - Used by some IGM code occasionally.
     Field is limited to 20 characters maximum. Do NOT use
     LORD color codes!

  -- BBS Name. Is either a BBS Name or Web-site Name. If you
     have neither one, just invent something. Field is limited
     to 50 characters maximum.

  -- The IGM's 3RDPARTY.DAT entry should look like this, minus
     LORD Color codes: Hiding In The Shadows v3.00

  -- Always double-check the values in SHADOWS3.DAT to be sure
     you are using the correct values for each LORD game you
     have, if there is more than one.

  -- The CONFIG process will NOT update SHADOWS3.DAT until you
     specifically agree to have it updated. Otherwise, the IGM
     continues to use the old config file and its variable
     values.
  ------------------------------------------------------------

  Advisory: Regarding the prompt dialog boxes used in the IGM's
  INSTALL, CONFIG, and UN-INSTALL processes, if you click on
  CANCEL or the CLOSE icon, it only cancels that specific prompt.
  It does NOT cancel the process that is running.

  If Cancel is used, the respective field in SHADOWS3.DAT will
  then be EMPTY, unless a default value is specified. In that
  case, the field will contain that value.
  ===============================================================

  IGM Removal Notes:

  Run SHADOWS3 REMOVE and follow the on-screen instructions.

  Since I have no idea if you intend to re-install the igm later,
  or not, the un-install process does not try to delete every
  data file used by the program. None of my IGM's un-install
  programs ever delete documentation or program files used by
  that IGM.

  If you choose to delete data files, during the REMOVE process,
  you are prompted to delete the IGM's data files one at a time.
  ===============================================================

  Brand new installation:

  This igm is stand-alone from the original HIDING IN THE SHADOWS
  IGM. It is the ANGEL toolkit-based update of the DDIGM-based
  version 2.70, that was released in late December 2006. The
  two programs are *NOT* compatible with each other.

  Exceptions: Both programs use the same structure for the
  SHADTIME.DAT and SHADTALK.TXT data files. Both use the
  HS-USAGE.TXT file, but the format of some Usage Reports has
  been revised.
  --------------------------------------------------------------

  These are the data files used by the IGM:

  HS-USAGE.TXT, SHADPLAY.DAT, SHADOWS3.DAT, SHADTIME.DAT, and
  SHADTALK.TXT. The IGM's debug file is named HS3DEBUG.TXT.

  Note: The debug log file is not currently in use. If you
  still have one, you can delete it at any time manually.

  The ANSI file used by HITS v3.00 is SHADOWS3.ANS.

  The IGM uses SHADOWS3.DIZ and SHADOWS3.TXT, along with the
  normal File_ID.Diz file, for BBS files databases usage.

  Preferably, you should run this IGM in its own sub-directory,
  but it should work from a directory shared by other IGMs - as
  long as there is no data files names conflicts. You can also
  run the IGM from the LORD directory, but I think most sysops
  and end-users will prefer not to do that.
  -------------------------------------------------------

  Run SHADOWS3 INSTALL and follow the instructions shown on-
  screen. Verify entries made to 3RDPARTY.DAT and lognow.txt
  files. Then start playing LORD with the IGM.

  Usage of SHADOWS3 REPORT command.
  ===================================
  When executed, the igm's SHADPLAY.DAT file MUST be present, or
  the process will terminate immediately. It will create or
  update the HS-USAGE.TXT report file, then after a few seconds
  delay, automatically display the report on-screen. There is no
  way to show the data in color, that I am aware of.
  ===============================================================

4.00:  Kenneth's Introduction from HITS v1.50:
===========================================================

-=-=-= [Hiding In The Shadows documentation] =-=-=-=-

Kenneth's Introduction:

I've been wanting to write an IGM ever since I registered
LORD. Seth Able's release of LORD 3.55 added a feature to
"stay" in other IGM's. With that feature in mind, I created
"Hiding In The Shadows". The idea is based on a Thieves Lair,
and there are many interesting things to do! Enjoy!
--------------------------------------

Intro Update:

Kenneth turned his IGM over to me in January 2004, and I started
updating it on Jan. 30, 2004 by recompiling its source code files
to get rid of the old IGM's RTE200 problem. This is my sixteenth
LORD project. I hope that you find the updated IGM worthwhile
and enjoyable. Donald.

-----------------------------------------------------
SHADOWS3.DAT Info:

Line 1: LORD Path - Displays your LORD Directory Path. Is in
        Upper-Case.

Line 2: IGM Path - Displays path to where Hiding In The Shadows
        is located. Also stored in upper-case.

Line 3: Sysop Name - Use your First and Last Name. Limited to
        50 spaces in length.

Line 4: Sysop Handle - The LORD player name you use personally.
        Is used to predicate various IGM functions during beta
testing
        so that only the beta tester, usually a BBS sysop, has
        access/usage of them. Limited to 20 spaces in length.

Line 5: BBS Name - Use your BBS Name, Web-site Name, or make up
        something for this field.

Line 6: Max Visits/Day.  Range is 1-10.

Line 7: Max Wishes/Day.  Range is 1-10.
--------------------------------------------------------------

** IMPORTANT **

During IGM entry and IGM exit, the IGM will automatically repair
any negative LORD stats and/or over-range LORD stats that the
player has. DOS LORD v4.07 and v4.08 Beta are extremely liable
to crash when *ANY* LORD numeric database stat is out-of range.

As a result, I do everything I can to protect the integrity of
every LORD player's Player Database record data while they are
using any of my DOS LORD IGMs, including this one.

Example: LORD does not like it when stats such as Gold in Bank
or Experience goes over 2 Billion. And LORD stats are not
intended to contain negative values in any normal situation.
=================================================================

****: Using the Usage Reports file:
=====================================
You may directly access/view the Usage Reports file by
using the SHADOWS3 REPORT command from the DOS prompt.

One requirement: You have to have a player database file in
order to view/create/update the IGM Usage Reports file.

In other words, you must have a SHADPLAY.DAT file in order to
generate a new HS-USAGE.TXT file, which the program will then
display on-screen to you, one screen at a time.
================================================================

****:  IGM Usage Notations:
=======================================

Transferred the IGM Usage Notations section into the
SHADWARN.TXT file on October 04th, 2007.

Topics covered: Vault Robbery event, Conan's Protection Policy,
Fairy Rescue, Conan Rescue, Conan Healing, Wishing Well wish
handling, Lair Inn Room Rent Fees, and the Stats screens.

FILE_ID.DIZ  - Description file (SHADOWS3.DIZ, HITS300.DIZ)
CCL-APPS.TXT - Info on current LORD Programming projects.
CCL-PROJ.TXT - Info on future LORD programming projects.

* - Files created during IGM installation, or after each usage in
LORD:
=================================================================

* SHADOWS3.DAT - Created by IGM when it is installed. Stores
      LORD Path, IGM path, Sysop Name, Sysop Handle, BBS Name,
      Max Visits/Day and Max Wishes/Day fields. IGM will NOT
      run without this file. Its presence is mandatory.

* SHADTIME.DAT - Used to keep track of change in Day, Month or
      Year, so IGM knows internally when to reset its data files
      for a new day's game usage. If file does not exist when
      IGM starts execution, a new one is automatically created.

* SHADPLAY.DAT - Binary player database. Tracks all activity
      inside IGM by every player. Automatically deleted, then
      recreated when the first player user of a new LORD game
      day enters the IGM.

* SHADBACK.DAT - Binary file. Backup of Player Database file.
      Created/Updated when player enters the IGM during its
      IGM initialization process. File is updated when
      each player exits the IGM.

      During IGM usage, if the player database file is lost
      or deleted, the IGM will use SHADBACK.DAT to recreate
      the SHADPLAY.DAT file. Thereby protecting records of
      other players who used the IGM previously in the day.

* SHADTALK.TXT - IGM's Conversations file, or Gossip file.
      IGM is designed to limit its size to maximum length of
      22 lines, so that it always fits on one screen when the
      user views its content.

* HS-TRIM.TXT - Work file used to trim size of SHADTALK.TXT
      whenever it exceeds 22 lines in length. Can be deleted
      by user, if IGM does not delete it automatically.

* HS-USAGE.TXT - Disk file listing content of SHADPLAY.DAT.
      Created automatically when IGM is used by sysop or
      the end-user.  Created/Updated when SHADOWS3 REPORT command
      is entered from DOS Prompt. Required: SHADPLAY.DAT file.

* SHADEDIT.CFG: Created when you run SHADEDIT.EXE the first time.
      Stores location of the Hiding In The Shadows directory you
      are using. This is where the IGM accesses its data files
      from when it is run from LORD, or one of the Configuration
      mode processes is being run.

  The utility will recreate SHADEDIT.CFG if it can't find that
  file in the current directory when SHADEDIT.EXE is executed.

==================================================
Do NOT ever delete INFO files manually while either an IGM is
running, or while LORD itself is running. Similarly, do not
mess with any OUT files that apply to Hiding In The Shadows while
the IGM is running.

Under no circumstance, EVER, should the end-user screw with ANY
of the IGM's *.DAT files while the IGM is running. That can
cause various problems to occur, some of which could cause the
program to crash.

  This IGM is fully tested under LORD v3.55 through v4.07,
  which was released by Metropolis Gameport on 06/07/2006.

  It has been tested and developed using DOS LORD v4.08 Beta
  since it became available in late September 2006.

  FYI: No work has been done on the LORD programs since
  late Sept. 2006, which leads most people to believe that
  Michael Preslar has abandoned the programs.
