Section 1.00: INTRODUCTION:
============================

Congratulations on grabbing a copy of THE PAWN SHOP! Chris made this
IGM in hopes that it will complement LORD and add to its fun, not give
players unfair advantages, or extreme rewards (like so many other IGMs
unfortunately do). Donald: And I've tried to keep things that way also,
and I've added more IGM events for players to use over time.

THE PAWN SHOP has many features common to several IGMs currently out
there but offers many new choices and options in addition. First of all,
THE PAWN SHOP is an IGM in which a LORD player may actually own and run.
In fact, all monetary transactions are kept track of and stored in a vault.
From this, THE PAWN SHOP decides on whether it can afford to buy weapons,
armour, gems, etc... from players. The vault, itself, can be robbed by
players and should THE PAWN SHOP go bankrupt, the current owner is dropped
and another may step forward to take his/her place.
  --------------------------------------------------------------

This IGM should NOT be used with any version of DOS LORD before
v3.50. The STAY OVERNIGHT feature requires v3.50+, but other
features MIGHT work with older LORD versions. But I do not
provide support for those old versions at all. Donald. 06/22/05.

This IGM can NOT be used with a 32-bit version of LORD.
  --------------------------------------------------------------

Other features of THE PAWN SHOP are that you can buy all the weapons
and armour offered in LORD but at 85% of their regular price. You may
also trade gems for elixirs but only 1 Gem per Elixir is required.

When customers are SELLING their Weapon/Armour, the item's GOLD value
is discounted at 70% of its normal LORD/IGM price.

Weapon/Armour Gold costs for items #16-#20 are based on 115% of the
LORD Gold cost of corresponding items #11-#15. Weapon Strength values
for weapons #1-#15 sold in Pawn Shop are 110% of LORD Strength values.
Weapon Strength for items #16-#20 is rated at 115% of LORD strength
for items #11-#15. Same formulas apply to Armour and Defense Points.

As a result of the formula rewrites for Weapon/Armor Gold prices, all
of the prices for items #16-#20 are now lower. Effective 10-04-2006.
  { ------------------ end of 10/04/06 rewrite -------------------------- }

There are a few other items offered for sale and you can (if you have
the Gold or Gems) buy 'Services' from the resident low-life Blackey. :)

Some services sold by Blackey require payment in Gems. A few are
free, such as displaying your Stats. Some services are handled by
Blackey personally, while the others are handled by his mercenaries.

As of 12/21/07, Blackey will give warriors a Sex Change for 10 Gems.
The IGM also grants player another chance to Flirt With Wendy, if
they become a guy; or to flirt with Blackey, if they become a lady.
  ------------------------------

Customer may exchange Experience points for either Max Hitpoints,
Strength, Defense, or Charm. Rate is based on an variable amount of
Experience for each elixir potion wanted. Player may purchase as
many potions as your Experience points will cover, subject to a 20%
limit - computed at IGM entry on player's FIRST visit to IGM. Once
player reaches that trade limit, they may not use Experience Trade
  again until the next day.
  ------------------------------

Along with the IGM keeping track of potions obtained via Gems Trading
or Experience Trading, it also tracks potions bought with Gold - such
as Spartan Warrior - each day. Once a player has obtained 16,000 potions
-- or whatever amount the sysop chooses in PSLIMITS.CFG file -- they may
not do any more Gems/Experience Trading, for potions. But they can
continue to buy Potions for Gold, as long as they afford them. And
usage of Gems trading for non-potions items is not affected, unless you
  are declared Naughty by Wendy.

** This limit can also be adjusted by user, but may not exceed 16,000
for Potions Traded per day amount. Default value is 8,000 potions/day.

Purpose of built-in maximum values is to prevent misuse of the
IGM's potions trading limits config file.
  --------------------------------------------------------------------

So that ownership of shop doesn't give victor of dragon fight an
unfair advantage over other players - via their ability to withdraw
Gold and Gems from shop vault, the owner will receive a visit from
the royal tax agent. The Dragon Tax is 50% of Gold and Gems invested
in shop by the owner player.

Section 1.50: v3.40 to v4.00 Update Instructions:
==================================================

This info is ONLY for people who have been using the IGM
during its 2006-2008 development cycle.

If you are updating from Pawn Shop v3.40, follow *ALL* of the
instructions listed in the PS40READ.TXT and PAWNCONV.TXT files.

If for some reason, you have still been using Pawn Shop v1.xx,
you MUST un-install that game completely. Then follow the New
Installation Instructions that are in this file.

Anyone updating from Pawn Shop v3.00 or v3.10, are to follow
the same instructions as those who are using v3.40.

**** Note: Some information such as that on the Misc Config Menu
or the Edit Usage Limits Menu is applicable to normal usage of
PSETUP, or to usage by those who are installing the IGM for
the first time.
--------------------------------------------------------------

(1) If you want to reuse current IGM data files, make a backup
of them by copying them into a temporary sub-directory.
Some of the files used by Pawn Shop v3.40 are no longer
compatible. Some data files such as PSLIMITS.CFG contain
new variables. You may want to print copies of your current
PAWNSHOP.DAT and PSLIMITS.CFG files so you can use those
old settings in the IGM Configuration process.

Uninstall your old version of Pawn Shop using the PSETUP.EXE
utility from v3.40. Then exit that version of PSETUP.

Using PAWNWORK.ZIP, or PAWN400.ZIP when it is released, unzip
all files in the archive using overwrite mode into your
PAWNSHOP IGM directory. e.g: pkunzip -o pawnwork

Warning: DO NOT try updating Pawn Shop files under ANY
circumstance while LORD is running. Close it down before
you do the IGM Configuration/Installation process. Make
sure that no one can run LORD while you are doing this!

This rule is MANDATORY to preclude any conflicts from someone
in a LORD IGM session trying to use the IGM components during
    the IGM installation/update processes.

(2) Make sure the LORD MAINT.BAT file no longer contains any
references to PSETUP.EXE. Delete any that are still in
the file using Wordpad, and close the file. Save file ONLY
    in ASCII format.

If you have multiple Pawn Shop installations, you will have
to do the UNINSTALL v3.40 and INSTALL v4.00 process separately
    for each one.

(3) Run PSETUP CONFIG now. From the Configuration Menu, type
in your information for items (1) through (4). In order,
they are LORD Path, IGM Path, Sysop Handle, and BBS Name.

Items (5) through (8) are for Owner's LORD Name, Owner's Real
Name, Total Vault Gold, and Total Vault Gems. These will be
defined with default values by the Install process. If you
want to re-use values from your old PAWNSHOP.DAT file, type
    the data into each field.
    -----------------------------------------------------------

    Explanation of Config Menu options:
    -----------------------------------
Program Path: Location that PSETUP.EXE is executed from.

    (1) LORD Path: Where your DOS LORD game is located.
    (2) IGM Path: The IGM directory for Pawn Shop IGM files.

    (3) Sysop Handle: The LORD Name used by the Sysop/end-user.
Limited to 20 characters in length.
    (4) BBS Name: Name of your BBS or Web-site.
Limited to 50 characters in length.

    (5) Shop Owner's LORD Name. Limited to 20 spaces.
    (6) Shop Owner's LORD Real Name. Limited to 50 spaces.
The menu is not designed for Real Name values that are
the maximum length, so those will look strange on-screen.

    (7) Total Vault Gold. Limited to max of 2.100 Billion.
        Default setting is 1 Million.
    (8) Total Vault Gems. Limited to max of 500 Million.
        Default setting is 100,000.
    =========================================================

Some menu option lines appear on-screen based on various
situations. A brand new installation setup for instance
will only show a few options.

    Primary Configuration Menu options:
    -----------------------------------
    (I) Install The Pawn Shop
    (D) Execute USAGE LIMITS CONFIG MENU
    (G) Execute MISC CONFIG MENU
    (R) Reset The Pawn Shop (U) Uninstall the Pawn Shop
    (Q) Quit/Save Settings
    =========================================================

Use (I) to INSTALL The Pawn Shop into your LORD game once
items 1 through 4 have been configured properly. Any
current PAWNSHOP.DAT file is deleted at this point.

Note: If IGM is already installed in 3RDPARTY.DAT, at Jason
Hud's request, a "forced install" is run automatically. So
you will end up with two (or more) Pawn Shop IGM entries
    in the file afterwards.

Re-enter the LORD Path and IGM Path info when prompted.
PSETUP will do the following steps afterwards:

    (a) Creates PAWNSHOP.DAT using default values, including
the ones that you selected on the Configuration Menu.

    (b) Creates PSLIMITS.CFG with default settings.

    (c) Adds IGM entry lines to the LORD 3RDPARTY.DAT file.
If file does not exist, PSETUP will create one.

If you want version info included type Y at the prompt,
or type N if you don't want it used in 3RDPARTY.DAT.

    (d) Adds PSETUP.EXE MAINT command to the LORD MAINT.BAT file.
If file does not exist, PSETUP will create one.

    (e) Adds IGM Install Notice to LORD's LOGNOW.TXT file.
If file does not exist, PSETUP will create one.

    (f) Verifies existence of the PAWNSHOP.SCR file. The IGM
is NOT usable without this file.

    (g) Creates the SHOPEDIT.CFG file for you that is used with
the Player Database Editor utility (SHOPEDIT.EXE), if
it does not already exist in the IGM directory.
    ============================================================

(4) From the Configuration Menu, use option D to Execute Usage
Limits Config Menu. If you want to use the default settings,
you can skip this step. Enter a menu code to edit its value.

** (1) Daily Potions Trade Limit Range: 1-16,000
** (2) Daily Exp. Trade Limit Rate Range: 1-25
      ** (3) Daily Fairy Trades Limit Range: 0-15 (*)
      ** (4) Daily Adoptions Limit Range: 0-16,000 (*)
      ** (5) Daily Banish Uses Limit Range: 0-5 (*)
      ** (6) Max Kids Stolen/Day Limit Range: 0-500 (*)
      ** (7) Daily Poison Uses Limit Range: 0-5 (*)
      ** (8) Daily Gems Thefts Limit Range: 0-5 (*)
      ** (9) Daily Gold Thefts Limit Range: 0-5 (*)
** (0) Max IGM Visits per Day Range: 1-20

** (A) Allow use of Blackey Menu Services? (Yes or No)
** (B) Allow use of Wendy Protection Service? (Yes or No)

** (V) View the Usage Limits Settings Report Screen.
** (Q,S) Quit and Save Usage Limits Settings.

If Blackey Menu Services are disabled, the IGM will NOT
allow anyone to use mercenary services such as Banish,
Kidnap, Poison, Steal Gems, or Steal Gold.

You can't set Daily Potions Trade Limit, Daily Exp Trade
Limit Rate, or Max IGM Visits/Day to Zero.

To disable a Mercenary Service marked with (*), set its
value to Zero. The Max Kids Stolen/Day Limit, as of 08/08/08,
is a maximum of 250. It applies to the NUMBER of Kids Stolen
per Day. Use option V to view the Usage Limits Settings
screen. Use option Q or S when finished to save them to the
PSLIMITS.CFG file, and return to the main Configuration Menu.

    {08/06/2008: Added S option. Works same way as Q does.}

(5) From the Configuration Menu, go to the Misc Config Menu.
** Use option 1 to Display IGM Data Files Info. (optional)

** Use option 2 to Update/View IGM Usage Reports. (optional)
Works only when you have a PAWNPLAY.DAT file.

This is the IGM's Player Database File. It won't exist
until you have used the IGM in LORD.

** Use option 3 to Display IGM Config Settings.

** Use option 4 to Display IGM Usage Limits. These are
         default settings established by PSETUP.

** Use option 5 to Display IGM Maintenance Log. (optional)
Works only when you have a PS-MAINT.TXT file.
It is created when you run the PSETUP MAINT process.

** Use option Q to Return to main Configuration Menu.

{08/06/2008: Changed Misc Config Menu to use options 1-5
    and Q instead of A,B,C,E,F, and Q.}

(6) Once you have verified the IGM Usage Limits, you can exit
PSETUP.EXE. This concludes entirely the IGM Installation
process. To exit PSETUP.EXE at any time, you simply use
option Q at the main Configuration Menu.

If any changes were made to PAWNSHOP.DAT or to PSLIMITS.CFG
while PSETUP was in use, it will save the files before it
exits back to the DOS Prompt.
------------------------------------------------------------

Some final notes on the Configuration/Install process(es):
----------------------------------------------------------
Note that when you use the (I) Install Pawn Shop option, that
the IGM will be installed whether or not it already is listed
in LORD's 3RDPARTY.DAT file. So it is advisable to visually
check the file and delete any duplicate entries for the IGM.

Remember to check the MAINT.BAT file and delete any duplicate
entries for PSETUP.EXE MAINT. It should only be listed ONE
time in the file for EACH Pawn Shop installation you have in use.

If you use my LordMenu utility, it has to be re-run each time
you change any IGM entries in the 3RDPARTY.DAT file.

   * Be sure that you use LordMenu v1.5, which was officially
     released on 08/29/2008.

   * http://camelot.legendarydragons.com/LordApps/lrdmnu15.zip

   * http://www.filegate.net/camelot/lordfile/lrdmnu15.zip
  =============================================================

If during the Install process, you were told to unzip the
PAWNSHOP.SCR file from PAWNWORK.ZIP or PAWN400.ZIP, you MUST
do this. The IGM will not run if this file is missing. It
contains dialogue segments that are used by PAWNSHOP.EXE.

As of 10/27/2007, PSETUP CONFIG allows the user to view/edit
the Total Vault Gold and Total Vault Gems fields. This feature
requires any 2008 version of PSETUP. Those two Configuration
Menu Settings, along with the Owner's LORD Name and Owner's Real
Name settings, are for use by sysops to fix glitches that might
occur during normal usage of the IGM in LORD.

There are no options for manually entering values for the other
fields in the PAWNSHOP.DAT file. Those should only be set by
the IGM or the by PSETUP Maintenance process.

End of section rewrite 08/06/2008.

Section 2.00: PSETUP Parameters:
==================================

If you forget how to use PSETUP occasionally, just type:

PSETUP /HELP or PSETUP /SWITCHES (then press ENTER key)

The program will show you the Switches Menu help screen.

These are the Switches that you can use with PSETUP.EXE:

The Switches Help Menu is alphabetized with primary switches
listed first, followed by secondary switches, as of 10/14/07.

There are two ways to use a switch parameter:
        (1) PSETUP /CONFIG -or- (2) PSETUP CONFIG

And it is not necessary to type PSETUP.EXE. It is not necessary
to type ".EXE" to run the executable program. It is however
necessary to use ".EXE" in the 3RDPARTY.DAT entry for the IGM,
and in the MAINT.BAT entry that runs the PSETUP.EXE /MAINT command.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Primary switches:
-----------------
/CONFIG: Runs IGM Configuration.
The /CONFIG option was added in January 2005.

Note 1: Use if you want to view/update the Usage Reports.
Note 2: Use if you want to view the IGM Maint Log.

Note 3: Use to view or edit Config File settings or
to view/edit Usage Limits config file settings.

The Configuration process is run by default if PSETUP
is executed without any parameter, as of 06/24/08.

/MAINT: Runs IGM Maintenance.
The /MAINT option was added on 06/23/2005.

Details of each Maintenance session are recorded in the
         PS-MAINT.TXT file, as of Nov. 12th, 2006.

/REPORT: Runs the Usage Reports process. Requires a PAWNPLAY.DAT.
Process will not run when the IGM Player Database File does not
exist. If PAWN-USE.TXT exists it is rewritten; if it does not
exist, the file is created. PSETUP then displays the Usage
Reports file's content on-screen, one screen at a time.

         02/28/08 Note: PAWN-USE.TXT contains 4 usage reports.

/HELP or /SWITCHES: Shows the Switches Menu Help screen.

Secondary Switches:
-------------------
/AB: Runs the "Add to Pawn Shop Bulletins" process.

/AC: Runs the "Add to LORD Conversations" process.

/AF: Runs the "Add to LORD Flower Garden" process.

/BANISH Runs the BANISH PLAYER process. Does not do
anything if you don't have a BANISH.DAT file.

/POISON Runs the POISON PLAYER process. Does not do
anything if you don't have a POISON.DAT file.

Section 2.50: Files used by Pawn Shop IGM:
============================================

The following files are included within THE PAWN SHOP archives:

Any file marked with an asterisk MUST be in the IGM directory
in order for the IGM's programs to all work properly.

Documentation files such as PAWNSHOP.TXT, SHOPEDIT.TXT, PS40READ.TXT,
and PS-WHATS.TXT should ALWAYS be in the IGM directory, for easy
access by the sysop or end-user. But the IGM will work without them.
** I recommend that they be kept in the PAWNSHOP LORD IGM directory.

These Text files are MANDATORY to use the IGM: PAWNSHOP.DAT,
PSLIMITS.CFG, and PAWNSHOP.SCR. The SHOPEDIT.CFG file is REQUIRED
to use the Player Database Editor SHOPEDIT.EXE utility.
==================================================================

Files contained in both PAWNWORK.ZIP and SHOPEDIT.ZIP archives:

Except for PS-NOTES.TXT, all of these files will be in PAWN400.ZIP.
---------------------------------------------------------

PAWNSHOP.DIZ - The File_ID.diz for this IGM required by BBS's.

* PAWNSHOP.EXE - Main IGM executable program. Executed by LORD.
Is *NOT* usable outside of a LORD game. v4.00.

* PAWNSHOP.SCR - Screens and dialog text required for IGM.
** Required to use the IGM in LORD. It will NOT
run if the file is missing. Contains a lot of
data screens that the IGM has to have. **

Note: Always be sure you use the most current
copy, which can be updated frequently during
                 each IGM development cycle.

PAWNSHOP.TXT - This file. IGM's primary documentation.

The Pawn Shop IGM Data Files:
------------------------------------------------------------
These files are *MANDATORY* for IGM usage: PAWNSHOP.SCR,
PAWNSHOP.DAT, PAWNBACK.DAT, PSLIMITS.CFG, and PAWNPLAY.DAT.

At IGM entry, PAWNPLAY.DAT is automatically created or updated.
PAWNBACK.DAT is created if it doesn't exist. PSLIMITS.CFG
is recreated with default settings if it doesn't exist.

The IGM will not run at all if PAWNSHOP.SCR and PAWNSHOP.DAT
are missing, and will terminate immediately during IGM entry.

PAWNTIME.DAT is also *MANDATORY*, but is only used by PSETUP.EXE.

In order to use SHOPEDIT.EXE, you MUST have a SHOPEDIT.CFG file.
Which is automatically created if it doesn't exist during the
IGM Install process. SHOPEDIT.EXE will also create the file
when its run, and it can't find its Config File.

The PS-MAINT.TXT file is NOT required to use the IGM, but it
does contain information that may be of importance to the
sysop/end-user of the IGM. Is not accessed by PAWNSHOP.EXE.

Files in this section marked with an asterisk (*) are REQUIRED
by PAWNSHOP.EXE. It either will not run if one is missing, or
it has to stop interaction with the LORD player to recreate a file.
------------------------------------------------------------

* PAWNSHOP.SCR Details: Contains data screens that are used
by PAWNSHOP.EXE. Example: The SHOP_BAN_NOTICE "screen"
is displayed when a player is placed on the Shop Ban List. (Text)

** This file is REQUIRED to use Pawn Shop IGM in LORD.

* PAWNSHOP.DAT Details: Primary IGM Configuration file. (Text)
First four lines cover Lord Path, IGM Path, Sysop Handle,
and BBS Name. Lines 5 to 9 cover Shop Owner player info.
Lines 10-11 cover Total Vault Gold and Invested Vault Gold.
Lines 12-13 cover Total Vault Gems and Invested Vault Gems.

** This file is REQUIRED to use Pawn Shop IGM in LORD.

    * Created/Revised by PSETUP.EXE.  * Revised by PAWNSHOP.EXE.
    * Revised when PSETUP CONFIG, MAINT, INSTALL, UNINSTALL, and
RESET processes are used. * Not used by SHOPEDIT.EXE.
    * Created when PAWNCONV.EXE is used.

* PSLIMITS.CFG Details: IGM Usage Limits Configuration file. (Text)
Contains 10 Usage Limit values. File is recreated by the
IGM using default settings if it does not exist when the
PAWNSHOP.EXE program is run from LORD's Other Places Menu.

** This file is REQUIRED to use Pawn Shop IGM in LORD.

** Created/Revised by PSETUP CONFIG process.
    ** Created/Updated, if necessary, by PAWNSHOP.EXE.

Contains IGM Limits values that the Sysop user
can configure to control how the IGM works.

Note: See PS40READ.TXT for a detailed explanation of the
IGM Usage Limits. There currently are 10 of them in use.

* SHOPEDIT.CFG: Config File for Player Database Editor utility.
** This file is REQUIRED to use SHOPEDIT.EXE.

SHOPEDIT is not usable without the file which is automatically
created if it does not exist, when SHOPEDIT is executed.
Used to tell SHOPEDIT where the PAWNPLAY.DAT file to be
    worked on is located.

Automatically created by the PSETUP CONFIG process when user
installs the IGM into their LORD game, as of 06/24/08, if the
    file does not already exist.
----------------------------------------------------------------

* PAWNPLAY.DAT: IGM Player Database file. Created when IGM
is run by LORD, if it does not exist. It is automatically
deleted by the PSETUP Maintenance process. Users are
NOT to delete the file manually if the IGM is in use.

** Covers only ONE day of IGM usage. (Binary file)
    ** Used by PSETUP.EXE, PAWNSHOP.EXE, and SHOPEDIT.EXE programs.

* PAWNBACK.DAT: In use as of 10/11/2007. Player Database Backup.
Used during normal IGM usage to recreate PAWNPLAY.DAT file
if it is deleted while the IGM is running. Protects the
data records for all users of the igm for current day ONLY.

** Requires Oct 2007 or later betas. ** Covers only ONE day
of IGM usage. ** Used only by PAWNSHOP.EXE. ** Deleted
automatically when PSETUP Maintenance process is run. (Binary file)

* PAWNTIME.DAT: Time/Date Usage File. Used to determine if a
New Lord Day has occurred in the IGM Maintenance process.
It is recreated automatically if it is missing when PSETUP.EXE
is used; or if the IGM Reset process is used. ** Used only
    by PSETUP.EXE. (Binary file)

Used in the Daily Maintenance process to ensure that Shop Owner
is only paid the Owner Salary ONE time per day, effective on
Jun. 28th, 2005. Also limits payment of Staff Salary and Gaurds
Salary to ONE time per day, effective Jul. 02nd, 2005.

PS-MAINT.TXT: IGM Maintenance Log. For use by Sysop/end-user.
Lists details of MAINT process. Covers one Day only.
** Added to IGM on Nov. 12th, 2006.

File is deleted automatically by PSETUP.EXE the first time
it runs /MAINT each day, or whenever the PAWNTIME.DAT file
has been deleted prior to manual execution of the /MAINT command.

Each new MAINT session is appended to the file, as long as the
day has not changed. Viewable from PSETUP Config Menu using M option.

PAWNBULL.TXT - The IGM's Shop Bulletins file.
    - Created by IGM when first person writes an IGM bulletin.
    - Also is created/updated by PSETUP Maintenance process.
    - Can be deleted by the Shop Owner using Office Menu.

PAWN-USE.TXT - Contains four Usage Reports, as of Feb. 2008.
In normal IGM usage, the Usage Reports are only viewable
on-screen by the Shop Owner, their Spouse, or the Sysop
User. Viewing access inside the IGM is via Office Menu.

Viewing access in PSETUP is via Main Menu option, or by
usage of the PSETUP /REPORT command. The file is updated
each time someone uses the IGM, or when it is accessed
    using PSETUP.

See PS40READ.TXT for detailed data on the usage reports' content.
--------------------------------------------------------------

The IGM uses somewhere around two dozen DAT and TXT data files.
Under NO circumstance, is the IGM to be used with any of them
write-protected. That MAY cause the IGM to crash. Trying to
use the IGM with files such as PAWNSHOP.DAT and PAWNPLAY.DAT
write-protected *WILL ALWAYS CAUSE THE IGM TO CRASH!! So do
NOT do that for any reason!!
 ---------------------------------------

Five of the DAT files have special significance to the IGM:
 BANISH.DAT, HATE.DAT, POISON.DAT, and SHOP-BAN.DAT. So they
are not automatically deleted during the IGM Maint process.

PS-FIGHT.DAT is the fifth DAT file that is handled specially
by PSETUP. It has no way to know when it is executed whether
the file is being used by PAWNSHOP.EXE. So it will only delete
the file during the MAINT process, or when IGM RESET is used.

WARNING: To avoid conflicts in IGM operation, do NOT EVER
run CONFIG, MAINT, or RESET in PSETUP while the IGM is in use
in LORD!!! Changes made by PSETUP in those three situations
could cause the IGM to crash possibly; and they COULD cause
damage to the LORD Player Database Records in the Player.DAT file.
 -------------------------------------------------

NOTES: In normal IGM usage, the Shop Owner Player is immune to
ALL Mercenary Services. There are exceptions. (1) During
PSETUP Maintenance, if the Shop goes Bankrupt, then the current
Shop Owner loses ownership and they are Banished. (2) When
PAWNSHOP.EXE starts the IGM entry process, if the shop is bankrupt,
it strips the Shop Owner of their ownership and Banishes them.
And (3) the shop owner can be accessed by a non-violent Mercenary
Service. Such as sending them Anonymous Mail, for instance.

The IGM does not allow someone to be Banished who has been Poisoned,
and vice versa, for the current day. The files are processed when
PSETUP /MAINT is executed, and then they are deleted. PSETUP /BANISH
only processes the BANISH.DAT file; and PSETUP /POISON only processes
the POISON.DAT file, when they are used. See the PS40READ.TXT file
for my advisory warning regarding manual editing of the BANISH.DAT and
 POISON.DAT files.
 ----------------------------------------------------------

BANISH.DAT - Contains names of players to be Banished for 1 Day
from the LORD game. Any player on the BANISH list is immune
from being Poisoned. Banish Warrior essentially KILLS the
player the next day, or when PSETUP is run manually using
     either MAINT or BANISH parameters.
 --------------------------------------------------

HATE.DAT - Contains names of the players who violate major
rules of the IGM, or basically they get on the "bad side"
of Wendy or Blackey, and sometimes both of them. One way
to do that is to try to kill the Shop Owner Player when
he/she is more than 2 levels BELOW your level.

It is not automatically deleted. Sometimes, a person can
be kept on the HATE List more than one day, if the right
random setting occurs during the PSETUP /MAINT process.
 --------------------------------------------------

POISON.DAT - Contains names of players to be Poisoned for 1 Day.
As with BANISH, when used, it prevents a warrior from using
     LORD on the next day.

Any player on the POISON list is immune from being Banished.
Poison Warrior essentially KILLS the player the next day, or
when PSETUP is run manually using either MAINT or POISON parameters.
 --------------------------------------------------

PS-FIGHT.DAT - Shop Office Ownership Fight data file. (Text)
Identifies the player who is attacking a Sleeping Shop Owner
by their LORD Real Name, and by the Node Number they are using.

Used by Pawnshop.exe to prevent two people from trying to
Claim Shop Ownership at the same time. Added on Sept. 12th,
2005 to prevent that situation from occurring. That was one
of the elements of Pawn Shop v3.40 that failed to function properly.

The IGM deletes the file once a Shop Ownership Fight is concluded.
PSETUP.EXE deletes it ONLY when MAINT or RESET process is used.
--------------------------------------------------

 SHOPBAN.DAT - Usage started on Oct. 22, 2006.
See "The Shop Ban List" section for details.
It is stored in the PS40READ.TXT file.

It lists players who are NOT allowed to use the IGM.
Anyone who tries to kill the Shop Owner and fails to
do so, or who runs from the fight, is added to the List.
 ---------------------------------------------------------

These are the other DAT files. All of these are automatically
deleted during the IGM Maintenance process:

BLACKEY.DAT - Indicates who has used Blackey Menu.

If the user uses BLACKEY OFF in PSLIMITS.CFG, as of 05/19/2008,
no one will be allowed to use the Blackey Menu. The default
setting is BLACKEY ON - which allows users to visit Blackey
  and purchase his Mercenary Services.
  { ======================================================== }

CLAIM.DAT - Indicates who attempted to claim Shop Office today.

FLIRT-B.DAT - Indicates players who flirt with Blackey.
Note: Neither NPC approves of Homosexual/Lesbian behavior.

FLIRT-W.DAT - Indicates players who flirt with Wendy.

NAUGHTY.DAT - Players who are on the IGM's Naughty List.
Used for players who exceeded the Daily Experience
Trade Limit, or who exceeded the overall Daily
                Potions Trade Limit.
  { ========================================================== }

PROTECT.DAT - Contains names of players who have bought Wendy's
Protection from attack by Blackey's mercenaries.

If the user uses PROTECT OFF in PSLIMITS.CFG, as of 05/19/2008,
no one will be allowed to purchase Protection from Wendy. The
  default setting is PROTECT ON.

If players had bought protection from Wendy earlier in the
day, that protection is lost if the PSLIMITS.CFG setting
  is set to PROTECT OFF.
  { ========================================================== }

RESURREC.DAT - Contains names of players who were revived from
death. Players can only be revived once per day.

There are benefits if the revived player is the Shop Owner.
Wendy thanks you specially for being kind-hearted, etc.

A player who is Protected is eligible for Resurrection,
and he/she can be targeted by the non-violent Mercenary
Services - assuming that use of the Blackey Menu is allowed.

ROB-GEMS.DAT - Lists victims of Gem Theft each day.

ROB-GOLD.DAT - Lists victims of Bank Gold theft each day.

ROBVAULT.DAT - Contains names of players who rob the Vault.
07/30/06: Data file was renamed from ROB.DAT to ROBVAULT.DAT.

Notes: As of 06/23/05, if the NoGemsTheft IGM Usage Limit is in
use, no names will be written to ROB-GEMS.DAT. And if
the NoGoldTheft Limit is in use, no names will be written
       to ROB-GOLD.DAT.

SMILE.DAT - Lists players who smiled at Blackey. (Which can
sometimes be hazardous to one's health.)

WENDY.DAT - Lists players who have used the Wendy Menu each day.

Section 3.00: Installing Pawn Shop:
=====================================

If you are updating from v3.40, or a prior version, use the
"v3.40 to v4.00 Update Instructions" in Section 1.50.
------------------------------------------------------------

I've tried to make THE PAWN SHOP as simple and easy as possible to
setup and install. Very little has to be done by the sysop to maintain
it as well.

** NOTE: Regardless of the IGM version, be sure to ALWAYS use the
copy of PAWNSHOP.SCR that comes with the distribution version or
with the PAWNWORK.ZIP beta archive. **

STEP 1: Create a directory for THE PAWN SHOP (preferably from within
        your LORD directory). e.g., C:\INTERNET\LORD\PAWNSHOP

STEP 2: Unzip THE PAWN SHOP archive into the directory and type
the command PSETUP /CONFIG, and press the ENTER key.

STEP 3: You *HAVE* to fill out options 1, 2, 3, and 4 before
you run the (I) Install IGM command. They tell the IGM
where LORD is located, where the IGM's files are located,
your Sysop Handle in LORD, and your BBS Name.

Options 5 and 6 cover Shop Owner identity, if one exists.
Options 7 and 8 cover Total Vault Gold and Total Vault Gems.

The user is not allowed using PSETUP to alter the Invested
Vault Gold and Invested Vault Gems settings.

STEP 4: Press "I" for INSTALL to install THE PAWN SHOP within LORD.

Warning: Do NOT do this while LORD is running. Any
attempt by PSETUP.EXE to update the 3RDPARTY.DAT file
while LORD is running, or while an IGM is in use, will
result in PSETUP crashing with a RunTime Error 005.
        -------------------------------------------------------

        4-A) IGM deletes any pre-existing PAWNSHOP.DAT file.
It asks you to re-enter the LORD Path, and then
to re-enter the IGM Path. This is necessary to
prevent glitches which could cause PSETUP to crash.

4-B) Creates PAWNSHOP.DAT with default settings. Uses
the information you chose in Items 1-4 in the
Configuration Menu for Lord Path, IGM Path, Sysop
             Handle, and BBS Name.

4-C) Creates PSLIMITS.CFG with default settings.

4-D) Adds two IGM Entry lines to your 3RDPARTY.DAT file.

*NORMAL* installation will result in two lines in your
3RDPARTY.DAT file that will look something like this:

C:\INTERNET\LORD\PAWNSHOP\PAWNSHOP.EXE /N* /GC:\INTERNET\LORD
The Pawn Shop v4.00

Will show the second line using LORD color codes, which can
be replaced or removed by the IGM's user.

You can opt to have Version Number info omitted from
the 3RDPARTY.DAT IGM Entry Lines if you don't want it.

Make sure that the LORD Path in the /G part does NOT use
an ending backslash. This is what tells the IGM where LORD
is located when it starts executing.

Remember to check for duplicate IGM entries in the file
when you have completed the IGM Installation process.

No other parameters are allowed other than /N and /G. If
you have anything else, it *MUST* be removed manually by you.

** IMPORTANT: The /N and /G options MUST be used. **
  { ========================================================= }

WARNING: Under NO circumstance whatsoever, can *ANY* parameter
starting with the /G section use the \ (backslash) symbol. This
will always result in the operating system shutting down the
program for doing an illegal operation. The backslash can ONLY
be used in the directory path entries.  {added 10/14/07}

Default color values are Red (Name) and Light Green (Version).

4-E) Add PSETUP /MAINT command to the MAINT.BAT file:

#############################################################
Regarding MAINT.BAT, a command line for executing PSETUP.EXE
/MAINT is added to it during IGM installation. If the igm is
un-installed, that line is removed from MAINT.BAT.

The MAINT.BAT entry will normally look like this, with the IGM
dir. path being different for each person using Pawn Shop:

  C:\INTERNET\LORD\PAWNSHOP\PSETUP.EXE /MAINT

NOTE 1: The maintenance program is REQUIRED in order for
THE PAWN SHOP to function properly.

  Note 2: If a MAINT.BAT doesn't exist in your LORD Game's
          directory, PSETUP will create one.

WARNING Note: make sure MAINT.BAT only runs PSETUP /MAINT ONCE.

The installation process sometimes results in dupe entries,
so it is advisable to visually verify MAINT.BAT content.

4-F) Add IGM Install Notice to the LOGNOW.TXT file:

After PSETUP installation has updated 3RDPARTY.DAT and MAINT.BAT
files, it will then announce the Pawn Shop's installation in
LORD's LOGNOW.TXT daily log file automatically.

If the LOGNOW.TXT file does not exist, PSETUP creates it.

4-G) Verifying existence of PAWNSHOP.SCR file:

PSETUP will check to see if it can find PAWNSHOP.SCR
and it tells you whether it finds the file or not.

The IGM is NOT usable without this file.

4-H) Create the Player Database Editor Config File:

PSETUP will create the SHOPEDIT.CFG file if it does
not already exist at this point, as of 06/24/08.

This ends the main part of the IGM Installation process.

The remainder involves viewing/editing the IGM Usage
Limits settings to be sure they are what you want to use.

STEP 5: Once the IGM has been installed, it uses default settings
for the PAWNSHOP.DAT and PSLIMITS.CFG files.

5-A) From the main Configuration Menu, select option C
to view the default IGM Config File Settings.

Use options 1 through 8 to edit any that are invalid.

5-B) In Configuration Menu, select option E to view the
default IGM Usage Limits File settings.

5-C) If you want to change any Usage Limits, you use
option D to Edit the Usage Limits.

5-D) To access the Misc Config Menu, use option G on
             the main Configuration Menu screen.

5-E) Select Q from Misc Config Menu to exit it, or select
Q from Configuration Menu to end the Installation
process. PSETUP will then save your IGM data files
and exit back to the DOS Prompt.

5-F) Optional but recommended: Check the 3RDPARTY.DAT
and MAINT.BAT files for duplicate entries. Its always
possible for Mr. Murphy to find a way to screw things
up, so you should always do this.

Unless you have more than one Pawn Shop installation in a
LORD game, you only want ONE entry for PAWNSHOP.EXE
in 3RDPARTY.DAT, and only ONE entry for PSETUP.EXE
             in maint.bat.

5-G) Any time you change the content in any way of the
3RDPARTY.DAT file, if you use my LordMenu utility,
you should run it and update your 3RDALT.TXT file
             if you use one.

This ends the IGM Installation process. Note that you also
use the Configuration Menu if you want to make changes to
the two IGM Config Files, or if you want to create/view the
IGM Usage Reports while you are running PSETUP. The Configuration
Menu is also used if you want to Reset the IGM or Uninstall it.
  ============== end of 07/02/08 rewrite area ===================

LORD Versions Compatibility Note: PAWNSHOP.EXE, the IGM, has
zero problems working under all versions of LORD that are currently
known to be still widely in use.

This IGM is fully tested under LORD v3.55 through v4.07; and
using the September 2006 compilation of LORD v4.08 beta.

  PSETUP.EXE, the IGM's setup/configuration/maintenance program,
has been thoroughly tested, and works as it is intended to do.

  ----------------------------------------------------------
If you have trouble with MAINT.BAT LORD crash, then you will
have to update to the official version of LORD v4.07. The problem
was fixed in early 2005 during LORD v4.07's development.

If you need to discuss LORD usage, or report problems with
LORD, you should write email to Michael Preslar. His email
  address is: mike@lordlegacy.com.

(2) The IGM is not usable without these data files: PAWNSHOP.DAT
and PAWNSHOP.SCR. If either one is missing, the IGM will
terminate execution and return to LORD with an Error message.

(3) Various features in the IGM are not usable until there is a
Shop Owner. Level 1 Players are not allowed to Talk to
Blackey, or to do Experience Trades. No one can trade more
than 50% of their Experience Points during a day. To use
Experience Trades, player must also have 1,000+ Exp points.

Players can only Flirt with Blackey once a day, and they
can only Flirt with Wendy once a day. By changing Sex/Gender,
a player can Flirt with both NPCs.

(4) Potion Trades per Day are limited to 16,000 maximum.
Fairy Trades per Day are limited to 10 maximum.
Adoptions per Day are limited to 16,000 maximum.
Kids Stolen per Day are limited to 250 maximum (as of 08/08/08).
The Banish, Poison, Steal Gold, and Steal Gems mercenary events
are each usable 5 times maximum per Day.

(5) IF Blackey VAR is set to NO, no one is allowed to use
Blackey Menu events. If its set to YES, players can use
    the Blackey Menu.

IF Protect VAR is set to NO, no one is allowed to buy
Protection from Mercenary Attacks from Wendy. If its set
to YES, players can purchase Protection.

(6) PSETUP Usage Limits. If PAWNSHOP.DAT does not exist, the
MAINT process will terminate immediately. (Added 08/06/08)

During MAINT, Salaries are paid only once per day. (11/12/06)
Salaries are paid only if there is a Shop Owner. (10/27/07)

(7) A player can only do Claim Office once per day, whether the
attempt is successful or not. A player can only Rob the
Vault once per day, whether they are successful or not.

Someone can only fight the Shop Owner for Shop Ownership
if (a) the Owner Player is asleep in the IGM; (b) the
PS-FIGHT.DAT file doesn't exist; and (c) if they are
within four levels of the current Owner.

A player who has bought Protection from Wendy can't be
targeted for a hostile Mercenary Service. Non-hostile
services like Spy on Warrior are still allowed to target
    a Protected Warrior.

Dead warriors can only be Resurrected from Death ONCE
per day. This may not apply if you are reviving a dead
Shop Owner player. Victims of the Steal Gems service
can't be robbed a second time during a day, and victims
of Steal Gold can't be embezzled a second time in a day.

Players can only get ONE Blessing from Wendy each day.
Exception: She will always HEAL wounds for the Shop Owner
when Ask for Blessing is used by that player.

(8) All "hostile" mercenary services are denied access to the
Shop Owner. Non-hostile services such as Anonymous Mail
are allowed to target the Shop Owner.

(9) A player can only be Banished or Poisoned once per day.
Someone on the Banish List can't be Poisoned, and someone
on the Poison List can't be Banished. Exception: This
rule is not applicable to Shop Owner who is Banished due
    to the shop going Bankrupt.
------------------------------------------------------------

Other info on MAINT process:
----------------------------
Code dealing with negative balances in Invested Vault Gold
and Invested Vault Gems is only run by MAINT process when
there is a Shop Owner. (10/27/07)

The MAINT Process doesn't increase a Shop Owner's Invested
Vault Gold. The Bankruptcy process is automatically run
by MAINT whenever Total Vault Gold and/or Total Vault Gems
are Zero or Negative. Pawnshop.exe also will run its own
Bankruptcy process at IGM entry if either Vault stat is
Zero or Negative. Shop Owner is Banished for 1 day, and
they lose Shop Ownership, if the shop goes bankrupt. (10/27/07)

During MAINT, the random Bad Investment routine only runs
if there is a Shop Owner *AND* Total Vault Gold is over
10 Million. It can occur more than once per day if PSETUP
MAINT is run several times during the same day. Either by
the user running PSETUP MAINT manually or by them running
    LORD's MAINT.BAT file manually.

Some other notes on IGM Limits are in the PS40READ.TXT file.

Section 4.00: IGM Versions History:
=====================================

The Original IGM v1.x was tested under LORD v3.55.

v2.00 never was executable, due to un-patch-able RTE200 problem.
Was only tested by myself and Chris MacPherson in November
     and December 2001.

  v2.01 -- v2.90 Betas: November 2002 - December 2003 work.
Was made available only to beta tester group primarily, and
was listed for beta download on Castle Camelot web-site during
     development cycle.
  =====================================================

  v3.00 - Officially released on Dec. 02, 2003.

  v3.10 - Officially released on Dec. 30, 2003.

  v3.40 - Officially released on Jul. 03rd, 2004.

  v4.00 - Officially released on Sept. 05th, 2008.
  =============================================================

Tested using Synchronet BBS using MTelnet and DOS LORD v4.07.

Fully tested using September 2006 compilation of LORD v4.08 Beta.

Testing has been done using Microsoft Windows ME and Windows XP,
primarily, using current v4.0x versions of Legend of the Red Dragon.
  --------------------------------------------

Running Pawn Shop, other LORD igms, under MS Windows XP Note:

I do not have a solution to the way Win-XP runs some DOS apps in
a 1/3-sized window. The user may have to configure the Properties
of the PSETUP.EXE and PAWNSHOP.EXE files, under XP, to have them
  run in Full-Screen.

If anyone reads this, and knows better solution, please write me with
the directions on how to run DOS apps in a normal size window, especially
in relation to this and other LORD igm's files. Thanks, Donald, 08-27-2003.

{ Added 10/14/07 } Running Pawn Shop under OS/2 or Linux:

I do not use either O/S, and have no knowledge of how they work.
There is NO technical support offered to users of those two operating
systems. I simply don't know, for instance, if PAWNSHOP.EXE would
work differently when used under Linux or OS/2, as compared
to how they work under Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP or MS-DOS.

I also have no knowledge of whether my IGMs would work differently
when used with a program such as the 4DOS utility, than they do
under Microsoft DOS/Windows versions, or IBM's version of DOS.
--------------------------------------------------------------

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Section 4.50: UNINSTALLING PAWN SHOP:
=======================================

The uninstall process works as follows. First, PSETUP scans your
3RDPARTY.DAT in the specified LORD directory location for Pawn Shop
entries. If duplicate entries - for the same LORD location - are found,
they are automatically removed. Entries for different installations
will NOT be affected, until you run PSETUP from the different install
directories. Second, the MAINT.BAT file is scanned, and lines listing
"PSETUP.EXE /MAINT" are then removed from the file.

Third, as of version 3.30 beta, the IGM will scan the specified LORD
directory for any OUT files that are currently in use, which PAWN SHOP
has previously created. The process does not delete OUT files that
  other LORD IGMs have created.

The last uninstall step is to write a 3-line notice to LOGNOW.TXT,
alerting players to the Pawn Shop's closure. Added in v3.30 beta.
  ===================================================================

PSETUP.EXE does not automatically delete its *.DAT files or the IGM's
PAWNBULL.TXT file. Reason being that it does not know if user will
be re-installing the igm after using Uninstall feature, so such files
need to be retained until Daily Maintenance is run the next time.

The IGM uninstall process should NEVER be run while LORD is running,
especially if the IGM is in use.

If you are sure you don't need them, you may manually delete the IGM's
data files after exiting PSETUP. These are the *.CFG, PAWNBULL.TXT,
PAWN-USE.TXT, and *.DAT files created during IGM usage, which are
  located in the IGM's directory.

The IGM does not EVER create data files inside the LORD directory itself,
UNLESS you chose to install the IGM there -- which is NOT recommended.

  Exception: PSETUP.EXE and PAWNSHOP.EXE will both CREATE a LOGNOW.TXT
and/or 3RDPARTY.DAT file, if necessary, if one or both files does
not exist in the LORD directory when the programs need to use those
  LORD data files.

Section 5.50: IGM BUGS, TROUBLESHOOTING:
==========================================

Most of this was written years ago by Chris MacPherson and
does not really have relevance to the IGM's usage now I think.
So it is now stored in the PS40READ.TXT docs file.

Note: Sometimes if you can't get the IGM to run, it may mean
that there is a problem with the current PAWNPLAY.DAT player
database file. So try deleting the file and re-running the
IGM after that. If problem persists, contact me for further
assistance.
=============================================================

**** Details on PAWNSHOP.DAT Structure: ****
===========================================================
There are thirteen data lines in the file as of Jan. 2006.
You should ONLY edit the data lines that are for Vault Gold
   and Gems data manually.

Usage of LORD color codes is NOT allowed in the file.

I prefer that everyone use PSETUP /CONFIG if you wish to
make changes to the file. But if you want to change stuff,
do so while the IGM is NOT in use!!
   --------------------------------------------------------

File Structure, as of 01-09-2006, is as follows:

Line 1 is LORD Path. Line 2 is IGM Path. Line 3 is the
Sysop's LORD Handle. Line 4 is BBS Name (or web-site name).

Line 5 is the Shop owner player's LORD Name, and Line 6 is
that player's LORD Real Name. Line 7 is the Shop Owner's LORD
player number. Line 8 is the Shop Owner's Game Level. Line
9 is the # of Vault Robberies each day.

Lines 10-13 are the Vault Gold and Gems values. Line 10 is
Total Vault Gold. Line 11 is Invested Vault Gold. Line 12
is Total Vault Gems. And Line 13 is Invested Vault Gems.
   ----------------------------------------------------------

If there is no Shop Owner, Line 5 says NO SHOP OWNER .
Line 6 says NO OWNER YET. (The entries do not use the ".")
Line 7 will be 160. Line 8 will be Zero.

Vault Limits: The IGM will not allow Vault Gold to exceed
2.10 Billion. Vault Gems can not exceed 500 Million. Invested
Vault Gold can not exceed 2.00 Billion. And Invested Gems
   can not exceed 475 Million.
   ----------------------------------------------------------

After doing edits, run PSETUP /HELP and verify that the values are
correct, before re-running the IGM. Max limits values are effective,
as of June 04th, 2003. Gems Vault limits were updated on Dec. 2nd, 2003.

Should PAWNSHOP.DAT get corrupted, the simplest way to fix it, is to
run PSETUP /CONFIG, and choose the Reset IGM option. That sets the IGM
to default values, with NO SHOP OWNER settings.

    PAWNSHOP.DAT and PSLIMITS.CFG WARNINGS:
==================================================================
1. Do NOT EVER use LORD Color codes in PAWNSHOP.DAT OR in PSLIMITS.CFG.

2. Do NOT EVER try re-arranging data lines in PAWNSHOP.DAT or PSLIMITS.CFG.
The two files are not intended for manual editing, UNLESS you know
   EXACTLY what you are doing.

3. PAWNSHOP.DAT contains 13 data lines - as of 01-09-2006.
   PSLIMITS.CFG contains 10 data lines.

Under NO Circumstances, are users of this IGM EVER to add their own
data lines to either file. That can cause the IGM to malfunction.

Technical support may not be offered to anyone who disregards these warnings.

Section 6.00: IGM FEATURES:
=============================

Here is a list of features, services and/or options which you can do
while in THE PAWN SHOP.

 Blackey's dark services:
Note: These services require player to have a Fairy:
          BANISH and STEAL.

BANISH A PLAYER: Banish a player from LORD for one full day!
As far as I know, THE PAWN SHOP is the first IGM which allows this.

Exception: If victim has been Poisoned earlier in the day,
they can not be Banished. Unless they are the Shop Owner,
and are Banished for causing the Shop to go bankrupt.

DEATH CRYSTAL: You've seen them in the forest. Have a mercenary
vaporize an opponent's horse. (VAPORIZE code also works)

DISFIGURE: Decrease a player's charm level.

EVICT: Evicts a warrior from the LORD Inn, if they are sleeping there.

As of 08/03/06, this IGM no longer does eviction of warriors who are
asleep in another IGM, or who are asleep in the Pawn Shop's office.

Only two players can be asleep in the Pawn Shop: the Shop Owner and
their Spouse, if the owner is married. NPCs do not qualify. A
Sysop User, unless he/she is also the Shop Owner or Owner's Spouse,
does not get to sleep in the IGM.

    * 07/26/2006: Removed IGM's ability to Evict players from other
IGMs. I came to the conclusion that one IGM should not interfere
with other IGMs in this manner. So that mercenary service has been
permanently ended. Players can still Evict someone from their
LORD Inn Room, but only if they are within FOUR game levels of
that warrior. Which is a limitation that applies to ALL of the
mercenary services that do harm to the targeted warrior(s).

  * GEMS: As of late May 2005, the IGM now allows players to steal Gems from
another warrior. Gems theft can only be done ONCE per day per victim. Thefts
are limited to 1/8th of victim's Gems, or a maximum of 4,000 Gems.

KIDNAP: Steal 1-20 children from another player. The service
cost is based on # of kids you want to steal. Usage of Kidnap
service is limited to maximum of 500 Kids Stolen/day, as of 08/15/08.
Each child stolen costs 10 Gems, and 250,000 Gold Coins, as of 08/08/08.

MAIM: Decrease a player's hit points, strength, or defense.
As of 04/26/05, this event covers standard Hit-Points, and the
maim points loss is limited to 50% of the victim's stat. If the
maiming is of Hit-Points, the loss is 50% of the victim's MAX HPs.

POISON: Decrease a player's forest and player fights, and more.

Exception: If victim has previously been BANISHED on current day,
    they can not be Poisoned.

STEAL: Rob a player's bank account. Gold theft can only be done ONCE per
day per victim. Thefts are limited to 1/8th of victim's Gold in Bank, or
a maximum of 250 Million Gold Coins.
    ========================================================================

Non-Hostile Blackey Event codes: (Some are FREE)
--------------------------------------------------
FAST EXIT - Lets you exit directly back to LORD in a hurry.

FLIRT - Are you brave, or perhaps stupid enough, to Flirt
with Blackey? Be warned that he might just take you seriously.
The result may not be very pretty, or good for your health,
if he does not like you! He DEFINITELY does not like for
MEN to try to Flirt with him. They get punished for doing so!

GET FAIRY - Allows you to purchase a Fairy for 30 Gems from
Blackey. Saves user a little time so they don't
have to leave Blackey Menu and go to Trade Menu.
Also takes a "customer" away from Wendy <G>.

INTERCEPT: Read another player's LORD Mail.

LEARN A PLAYER'S BBS NAME: Is someone pretending to be someone
else? or just annoying you? Find out who it is. Tells
you their LORD Real Name. Costs some Gold and 5 Gems.

LIST: View Blackey's price list for primary services.

MAIL, ANONYMOUS: Sends anonymous mail to players. Does not work
with shop owner player, since Blackey is forbidden to send his
    mercenaries after his boss.

PRICE/PRICE LIST: Find out what Blackey charges for his primary
    mercenary services.

PROTECT: Curious about obtaining Wendy's Protection? Wanna know
how much you'll have to pay?

REVIVAL: Want to bring a dead warrior back to life?
Blackey will tell you about another service "stolen" by Wendy.

SPY ON A PLAYER: View ALL stats of a player including strength, defense,
hit points, charm, weapon/armour name and number (for those IGMs that
all you to change the name of weapons/armour you can tell what they
really have), if they are married, number of kids, do they have a horse,
do they have mail waiting, where are they staying (or if they are dead).
It also reports on Lays and Games Won (Dragon Kills) the target has.

As of 03/02/05, price is doubled to 10 Gems. Spy Stats screen now gives
info covering Gems, Experience Points, Gender, Skills Mastery status,
    and Player Kills.

STATS: View your current LORD stats. Has two screens due to the
amount of LORD and IGM stats that I feel needed to be covered.

VICTIMS: List all available victims in LORD.

  * 08/15/2006: Removed the SUICIDE service offered by Blackey to allow a
warrior to "Commit Suicide". Which resulted in their LORD Player
record being replaced with blank data. If someone wants to leave LORD,
they can have their BBS sysop/webmaster handle that for them.

  * Warning: When using the actual Mercenary Services, Blackey
*WILL* punish you if you target yourself for any reason. The
penalty is a loss of Experience Points!

Some other miscellaneous Blackey Codes:
---------------------------------------
HELP: The HELP code now shows a brief description of some
of the minor services provided by Blackey. Example:
REVIVAL: He tells you, for a fee, how much Wendy will
charge you to Resurrect a Dead Warrior.

BELGARION - Info on the program's author, Donald Tidmore.
    BLACKEY - Info on Blackey.
CAMROC - Info on Chris MacPherson, who created this IGM.
CLAIM - Info on claiming shop ownership.
    CLEAR - Clears the screen.
HIRE/MERCENARY - Info on the Mercenaries.
MASTER - Want to retry your Master?
OWNER - Info on the Shop Owner.

VAULT - Find out how much Gold/Gems are inside vault.
            Cost is 5 Gems.
    --------------------------------------------------------

These codes don't really do anything, other than show
one-line messages sometimes, or a paragraph or two:

BARD, BARTENDER, DRAGON, FAIRY, FLOWERS, FOREST, GRIZELDA,
HORSE, GARDEN, GOLD/MONEY, JENNIE, KENDER, LILY, OLIVIA,
ROSIE, SECRET, SHREDDER, SMILE, SORRY, VIOLET, VULTURE, WENDY.
  -------------------------------------------------------------

 Wendy, the witch.
ASK FOR A BLESSING: Wendy will look at you and rate you. Depending
on your stats she will grant you a blessing (increase hit points,
strength, defense, charm, forest fights, player fights, or nothing).

Blessings added in March 2005. Adopt two orphans. Receive 5% boost in
Experience, limited to 25 Million exp. points max reward. Adoptions event
usable as of 03/03/05. Experience event usable as of 03/10/05.

PROTECTION: Buy protection from Blackey's mercenaries. No player will
be able to send a mercenary after you for the rest of the day.

RESURRECT DEAD Player: If you're willing to pay the HIGH price, she
will cast a spell to resurrect a dead warrior. But only ONCE per warrior
per day. If the current shop owner is dead, you may also revive them,
and Wendy gives you some discounts for doing so.

FREE HEALING FOR OWNER: During Blessing, if owner is injured, or has
new Hitpoints, Wendy will heal them. For current player, who is shop
owner only. This healing should only happen ONCE per day.

  * LIST DEAD WARRIORS: Free service. Shows player whether any
Warriors are Dead in the Realm at the current time.

  * FLIRT with her. Depending on your Charm level, she may respond
by granting you something. If you are married, you may LOSE
something. Or you might be unlucky and nothing at all happens.

  * Wendy will also tell you basic info about the IGM, or about her
    fellow employee, Blackey.

The beautiful Wendy is in charge of selling Elixirs and Gems Trading.
She will only do business with you if you have been behaving properly
in the store. She also is in charge of Gems sales/purchases,
Weapon/Armour sales/purchases, and the trades for Horse, Fairy,
and Orphan Children. Lastly, she handles the ATM Service.

  * As of 03-02-2005, Wendy also offers ATM Service for a reasonable
Gold/Gems fee. Gold cost is limited to 500,000 and is 2% of player's
Bank balance. Gems cost is 25 gems.

  * 02/28/08 Note: Wendy will show any player who wants to view
them, the igm's Customer Usage Reports. Caveat: Player must
not be on Naughty List or Hate List to use the Wendy Menu events.

 The Office.
  --------------
Only two people have normal access - the shop owner, and their
spouse. They may do the following: View Vault Stats, View their
own Stats, Deposit Gold or Gems, Withdraw Gold or Gems, Erase
the IGM bulletins file, Read shop deed, Sleep in office overnight,
and View Customer Info Reports - there are three of them. One
other player gets limited privileges in the Office: the Sysop User.

Basically, nearly every benefit granted by the IGM to the Shop
Owner is also granted to their spouse. There are exceptions such
as that the Shop Owner's Spouse may be attacked by mercenaries.

Regarding Deposits/Withdrawals: Gems withdrawal will only work
when shop has over 250,000 Gems in Vault. And Gold withdrawal only
works when the vault has over 1 Million Gold. If player has not
invested ANY Gold/Gems, then they can not do withdrawals.

The Sysop User is allowed to make Gold/Gems Deposits, and those
amounts are treated as having been made by the Shop Owner or
  the Shop Owner's Spouse.

Regardless of how much Gold and Gems the Vault contains, the shop
owner's withdrawals are limited to the amounts they have invested
in the IGM. E.g., if you have only invested 500 Million gold, you
would not be allowed to withdraw more than 500 Million.

The owner's spouse does NOT get special treatment from Wendy
or Blackey. They are NOT immune from attack by mercenaries
sent by Blackey. And if the spouse chooses to attack and kill
the shop owner wife/husband, that triggers an automatic divorce.

Lastly, the spouse does not receive a daily salary. However,
they do have unlimited access to the Shop Vault - so if they
have "sticky fingers" that's the shop owner's bad luck <G>.

  -----------------------------------------------------------------
Only the Shop Owner or his/her Spouse are entitled to Withdraw
Gold/Gems from the Vault, or to Sleep Overnight in the IGM. The
Sysop User player, as of 11/21/2006, is allowed to use all other
normal Shop Office Menu options. Requires v3.88+ Beta. The shop
owner does not have to worry about the Sysop User getting "sticky
fingers" since they can only DEPOSIT Gold/Gems into the Vault.

  -----------------------------------------------------------
** NOTE: The Sleep Overnight event requires LORD v3.50+.
** Earlier versions of DOS LORD do not support players
  ** sleeping in IGMs.
  -----------------------------------------------------------

  Commit Treachery IGM Events:
   ==============================
    ROB THE PAWN SHOP:
   ------------------
Rob the shop's vault. Great returns if you succeed.
If you fail and are caught, you will be beaten up, and thrown
out of the IGM. And if you try to return on same day, some
IGM features will not be usable by you. Only 1 robbery attempt
allowed per day. Shop owner may NOT rob his own business.

As of v3.40, the captured thief now loses 10% of their
Experience. That loss was 5% in prior versions.

      * However, the shop owner's SPOUSE can do robbery.
      * Gold theft is limited to either 500 Million or to 25% of
the current Total Vault Gold amount. Actual amount allowed
by IGM may be much less.

      * Gems Theft, as of v3.40, has three limits. #1, you may
not get more than 32,000 Gems. #2, the actual theft is
limited to 10% of Vault Gems. E.g. If vault has 100,000
Gems in it, your theft can not exceed 10,000 gems. And #3,
all Level 1-6 players are limited to 100 Gems * Game Level.
E.g., the most a Level 6 thief may gain is 600 Gems.

If you are at maxed-out levels for Gold in Hand and Gems,
you will not receive anything. So if you have 2 Billion
Gold already in hand, don't bother trying to rob the vault.
Ditto if you have 32,000 gems on hand already.

    CLAIM THE PAWN SHOP:
     =====================
If there is no owner or the owner is dead then you may claim
THE PAWN SHOP with no hassle, otherwise, you will have to take
it over from the current owner -- *IF* you win the fight. Only
one shop claim is allowed per day, per player.

Auto-Claim when current owner is dead. You try to claim office,
but find someone else has already killed the owner, who is lying
dead in the office. You receive shop ownership automatically.

You are entitled to up to a quarter of the previous owner's Gold
and Gems investment. And you receive Free healing for injuries or
new hitpoints, if applicable, when you become the new owner.
-------------------------------------------------------------

  Buy Menu
Weapons/Armour: THE PAWN SHOP will sell weapons and armour for
       85% of LORD's selling price.

Spartan Warrior Elixir (increases your Defense)
Eau de Shredder (increase your Strength)
Love Potion #9 (increase your Charm)
Ultra Ale (doubles your Hit Points)
      Gems

  Sell Menu
Weapons/Armour: THE PAWN SHOP will buy back weapons and armour
at 70% of LORD's selling price.
      Gems

 ** Buy Menu/Sell Menu Notes: August 2005 revision **
 ===================================================================
The IGM is now set up to sell weapons and armour at 85 percent
of LORD's selling price. LORD only has 15 weapons and 15 armours
that you can buy. Pawn Shop sells those 15 at lower prices, plus
it sells five additional alternate weapons and armour.

LORD v4.07 does not really like it when you have non-standard
weapons/armour, especially if the # is outside the 0-15 range. So
when Pawn Shop sells #16-20 items, it re-assigns them weapon/armour
numbers in the corresponding #11-15 range.

E.g: You buy weapon #20 and your Weapon Number is changed to 15.
The prices, defense points (armour) and strength points (weapon)
values paid for or received from a weapons/armour sale were
revised to more reasonable values in late July 2005.

The IGM will buy back weapons and armour at 70 percent of LORD's
selling price. The 70 percent discount also applies to the
shop's special weapons and armour. Non-standard weapons and
armour from IGMs such as L.O.R.D. Cavern and Turgeon's House
are purchased using the 70 percent discount rate also.
=================================================================

  Trade Menu:
   ==================
1 player fight for 10 forest fights
5 forest fights for 1 player fight
      Horse for a Fairy
      Fairy for a Horse
Orphan Children for Gems (each child costs 40 gems)

Gems for Elixirs: Same as bartender, but trade is 1 to 1 with a
chance that you will get a 'bad brew' and not gain anything.

You may trade for Charm potions also - a service the Inn's
bartender does not provide his customers with.

When trading for potions, players risk getting a "Bad Brew".
When that happens, they are dropped to 1 usable Hit-Point, and
they do not receive the amount of potions they requested.

Experience Points trade. Player with over 1,000 Exp. points may
trade Experience for Max Hitpoints, Strength, Defense, or Charm points.

Note: This mainly lets you get rid of Experience, and won't
significantly increase any of the four stats. That is because
the trade is for ONE stat point, regardless of how many
Experience points you trade, per session.

     ---------------------------------
     * Trade 20 Gems for Horse - As of 07/31/06, there is NO limit on Horse Trades.

     * Trade 30 Gems for Fairy - Max limit of 15 Trades per day.

     * Trade 40 Gems for 1 Orphan Child - 750 adoptions per trade.
       And overall limit of 5,000 Adoptions/Day - sysop-configurable.

The Fairy and Orphans Trade limits are sysop-configurable during
IGM setup, using the PSETUP /CONFIG command.

Section 6.50: PAWNSHOP.EXE Usage Warning:
===========================================

You can NOT use Pawnshop.exe by itself to do *ANYTHING*.
It can ONLY be executed from LORD's Other Places Menu.

In this IGM, all processes related to IGM Configuration,
Maintenance, Usage Reports, Install IGM, and UnInstall IGM,
are handled by the Setup/Config/Maint utility PSETUP.EXE.

Running PAWNSHOP by itself, to prevent the IGM from screwing
up, results in a short one-screen Notice screen.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Section 7.00: SHOPEDIT.EXE & PAWNCONV.EXE Information:
========================================================

As of 09/01/2008, I have added the PAWNCONV files to the
ShopEd11.zip archive. They are NOT included inside SHOPEDIT.zip,
since they can be accessed through the PawnConv.zip archive.

See SHOPEDIT.TXT inside SHOPEDIT.ZIP and PAWNWORK.ZIP for full
documentation file. Supplemental data on SHOPEDIT is also
included in the PS40READ.TXT file. A synopsis of SHOPEDIT.TXT
covering the two utilities is included here:

SHOPEDIT: Pawn Shop Player Database Editor v1.10.

v1.10 was officially released on Aug. 31th, 2008.

v1.00 was officially released on Dec. 02nd, 2006.
---------------------------------------------------------

Purpose: SHOPEDIT.EXE is a Player Database Editor utility. It
shows the contents of each record in the PAWNPLAY.DAT file
on screen. Except for LORD Player Number, which is display
only, all listed values can be modified by the user.

End of synopsis for SHOPEDIT utility.

See the SHOPEDIT.TXT file for full info.
=============================================================

PAWNCONV.EXE Information:
=============================================================

See PAWNCONV.TXT inside the SHOPED11.ZIP and PAWNCONV.ZIP
archives for the full documentation for PAWNCONV. A synopsis
of PAWNCONV.TXT is included here:

PAWNCONV: Pawn Shop Config File Converter v1.00.

PAWNCONV v1.00 was officially released on 12/02/2006.

Purpose: PAWNCONV converts the Config File values in PAWNSHOP.CFG
into a new Config File structure used by PAWNSHOP.DAT, and
it writes the data to the PAWNSHOP.DAT file. It only has
to be used ONE time. If you don't wish to protect current
Shop Office Ownership data, then you don't need to use it.

However, it is much quicker to use PAWNCONV, than it is to
use PSETUP's Configuration Menu to recreate all of the IGM
    Config File settings.

End of synopsis for SHOPEDIT and PAWNCONV utilities.

See the PAWNCONV.TXT file for full info.

Section 7.50: Special Thanks, Dedications:
============================================

Jimmy Rose : For assistance in getting ANGEL adaptation of code
to properly run, back in 2003.

Charlie Wardick: For (a) adapting IGM to remove unusable SharkWare
IGMDrive components, (b) help in getting IGM to work
otherwise, and (c) his expertise with BBS programming
and for his teaching me LORD/BBS programming skills.

Chris MacPherson - For entrusting me with updates, maintenance, and
technical support of his Pawn Shop IGM for 4 years.
And for giving me the IGM in 2006, as its new author.

Marty Blankenship: For assistance in tracking down the glitch that
allowed the IGM to grant Shop Ownership to players with
LORD player #zero automatically, when they had never used
            the Claim Shop event.

And to all of my other friends who've gone through my evolution
as a LORD games programmer since February 2002, by testing my new
Lady scripts, and LORD IGM/utility beta compilations, over those
many months. Oh yeah, and most of all, for putting up with my
tendency to write occasionally LONG email messages to them <G>.

Section 8.50: Future Updates, Contact Info:
============================================

Future Updates: No timetable other than 2009:

These are some ideas I have for the IGM's future.

* Evaluate allowing shop owner salary payment made during
Daily Maintenance to go to their player spouse *IF* the owner
already has 2 Billion Gold in Bank.

* Evaluation of random gems/gold distribution to players when
Vault Gold exceeds 500 Million, and Vault Gems exceeds 100 Million.

* Evaluation of offering Sex Change mercenary service, where you
could pay Blackey to magically change ANOTHER player's Sex.

* Consider service by Wendy where she replenishes lost Skill
USE points for an undetermined payments plan.

* Pay Blackey to handle a LORD Name/Alias change for you.

Section 9.00: Further Info, Copyrights, Disclaimer:
====================================================

Multi-Player Usage Support:
---------------------------------
This IGM was changed to permanent multi-player usability during
the 2005-2006 development period. It no longer uses the old
LOCKFILE.DAT file. Testing of the IGM using multi-player setup
was started on Sept. 12th, 2005. That testing phase officially
  ended on March 10th, 2006.

Multi-Node support: The IGM will work with as many BBS Nodes
as your LORD game supports. DOS LORD's documentation indicates
that is 999 nodes theoretically. That limit is probably due
to fact that DOS can only handle three digit file extensions.
===============================================================

This IGM has been fully tested under LORD v3.55 through v4.07,
and using the September 2006 compilation of LORD v4.08 Beta.

09/04/08 Notes:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Its development and testing since Sept 2006 has been under the
only compilation of DOS LORD v4.08 beta that was made available
to the public. No one since then, LORD IGM authors-wise, has
been allowed to have more current compilations of the LORD games.

Since none of the BBS LORD programmers have access to current
compilations of DOS LORD v4.08, I can NOT honestly say that
this IGM will work with LORD v4.08 whenever it is finished.

Since I (and other IGM authors) can't test IGMs that we develop
in an up-to-date LORD v4.08 game, I make no promises as to this
program's usability with DOS LORD v4.08 when it is released
by Metropolis Gameport and its author Michael Preslar.
================================================================

There, that's about all I can say about THE PAWN SHOP right now,
but if there's anything else you can think of that you would like
answered just send me an email message or Fidonet mail message.

Your comments, questions, suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
I'd like to know that people are actually using my IGM. :) I've
put a lot of work into it, and I hope it is appreciated. And
before I spent the last five+ years working on the IGM, Chris
MacPherson spent considerable time creating it. So if you like
this program, please let both of us know that.

If you need immediate tech support, contact me directly via Email. My
primary email addresses are ktidmore@bellsouth.net and
gtidmore@hiwaay.net. If neither one are working, use
donald.tidmore@usa.net.
