Realm of Lore - CONVLORE.TXT
Player Database Conversion Utility program docs

ConvLore v1.10 was officially released on Dec. 28th, 2007.

CONVLORE.EXE Status:  v1.10.

Compile Date:  December 28, 2007.

Docs updated:  July 01, 2010.

Note: CONVLORE will not be updated again until I have finished
work on Realm of Lore v2.00's DDIGM-based development cycle. It
will then be used to translate the ROL v2.00 igm's player database
structure into a final one for use by the ANGEL toolkit based
version of Realm of Lore. Timetable for that is sometime in 2010.

Notes: Includes source code file for CONVLORE utility v1.10.
       Utility was officially released on Dec. 28th, 2007.
============================================================

CONVLORE v1.10, and its v1.01+ Betas, is ONLY for use to
convert from ROL v1.92 beta to v1.96+ betas, or to ROL v2.00.

ROL v1.94+ Beta is not compatible with CONVRL10.EXE any more.
=============================================================

If you are making a CLEAN install of ROL v1.94+ Beta,
after un-installing ROL v1.94+ Beta, then there is no
need to use this program. The first time ROL v1.94+ beta
executes after installation, it automatically creates a
ROLPLAY.DAT player database file for the current player.

ConvLore v1.10 can NOT be used with ROL v1.44.
=========================================================

Why do you need to use CONVLORE.EXE?
--------------------------------------------------
The current IGM uses a different player database file structure
than R.O.L. v1.93.5 Beta was using. Therefore the old
ROL2PLAY.DAT file is INCOMPATIBLE with the current IGM program.

All versions of ROL.EXE and ROL2EDIT.EXE released by me prior to
Dec. 10th, 2006 are using the ROL2PLAY.DAT database file.

You have to use CONVLORE to convert your ROL2PLAY.DAT file into
the ROLPLAY.DAT file that is now in use by ROL v1.94+ Beta.
===============================================================

How is CONVLORE.EXE used?
--------------------------------------------------
CONVLORE.EXE and ROL2EDIT.EXE are bundled inside the R.O.L.
beta distribution archive, ROL-WORK.ZIP. Obtain a copy from
me via Email, using donaldtidmore@comcast.net or
gtidmore@hiwaay.net.

The copies posted of ROL-WORK.ZIP on the Camelot LordNews FDN
site (and its mirror sites), on the BBS Archives servers
operated by Mike Ehlert, and on my Castle Camelot web-site,
are not always up-to-date.

Be sure that you get ROL-WORK.ZIP and ROL2EDIT.ZIP from me directly.

The CONVLORE.* files are included inside ROL-WORK.ZIP with
the exception of its source code file.

----------------------------------------------------------------
Until I have ROL200.ZIP archive prepared and officially released,
you are to use the CONVLORE.* files that are being released inside
the convrl11.zip archive. The files inside CONVLORE.ZIP may also
be used, unless this text file indicates otherwise. 12/28/07 note.
================================================================

REMEMBER: If you are doing a CLEAN INSTALLATION, there is no
need to use this utility program. It saves you time not trying
to protect user's Treasury Gold and Treasury Gems balances. But
your BBS users probably would not be very happy with you then.
================================================================

Update process from R.O.L. v1.50 - v1.93.5 betas:

1) Run Realm of Lore v1.93.5 beta. Do something inside the IGM
   and then exit the program. Then exit LORD as well. Do NOT
   EVER try ANY of these conversion steps while the IGM is in use!

   Optional, but recommended: You should run the IGM one time
   for EACH player who has Gold and/or Gems on account in the
   IGM's Treasury. Write the balances down on paper. This is
   useful in case the conversion process screws up somehow. It
   shouldn't do so, but computer programs can ALWAYS mess up
   in some fashion when "Mr. Murphy" decides to pay you a visit.

   Change into the ROL IGM Directory.

2) Make a backup copy of ROL2PLAY.DAT as ROLP192.DAT.  Make a
   backup of it also, such as ROLP192.BCK.

3) Unzip the files from ROL-WORK.ZIP using overwrite with new
   files mode. Do the same thing with ROL2EDIT.ZIP.

4) Run CONVLORE.EXE. It automatically processes the ROLP192.DAT
   file and creates a new ROLPLAY.DAT player database file.

   You only need to run the CONVLORE.EXE program ONE time.
   At this point, you can move all of the CONVLORE.* files
   into a sub-directory or delete the files.

5) Now run ROL2EDIT.EXE v1.02+ beta. Open each player's record
   and check them for glitches. There should not be any. If
   you find any, correct the errors immediately for each record.

   To verify that Treasury Gold and Treasury Gems balances are
   valid, you'll have to have that data available to you. The
   details will be in the RL-USAGE.TXT file, created each time
   the IGM is used, or the RLSETUP REPORT command is run.

   Do "Reset Player Data" option * to reset all records to
   "New Day for Player" values.

   Once you are sure all of the new player database records
   look normal, you can exit the ROL2EDIT.EXE program.

At this point, the player database file is now fully compatible
with Realm of Lore v1.94+ beta.

When you installed ROL v1.94+ beta, you should have already
created a new REALM2.DAT igm configuration file. If you
have not done so, be sure to use RLSETUP.EXE now and do so!!

At this point, you can resume normal use of the IGM.
