IGM Utility: Ruined Castle Player Database Editor (RUINEDIT)

Status: RuinEdit v1.00 officially released on Nov. 30th, 2007.
The Ruined Castle v2.30 officially released on Nov. 30th, 2007.

Compile Date: November 30, 2007. Status: v1.00

This utility program was created by Donald Tidmore.
RUINEDIT is based upon the Chasware LPEdit utility.
------------------------------------------------------------

Section 1: RUINEDIT USAGE NOTES:
------------------------------------------------------------
Note 1: RUINEDIT.EXE can only be used with v2.30, or its
v2.21+ Betas, of The Ruined Castle IGM.

Note 2: For access to revise the LORD Player Number field,
use the command RUINEDIT /DEBUG to run the Player Database
Editor utility. ** READ the Warning about this event's
  usage before using it!! **

Note 3: 11/08/07: The IGM is not actually using its Skill_Pts
player database VAR, so I have disabled the A key used in
RUINEDIT. It will be re-enabled at a later date with a
substitute Database value. No change in Player Database
Layout is made at this time to disable/replace Skill_Pts.
  ==========================================================

The official release archive is named RUINED10.ZIP. It is
to be used by everyone as of 11/30/2007, until the IGM is
put back into development sometime in early 2008.
  ----------------------------------------------------------

** Obtain copy of the RUINED10.ZIP archive. Primary
distribution sources are my Castle Camelot, Camelot
LordNews FDN web-sites. Along with the BBS Archives
web-site and the NightfallGames web-site. The files
     are also available from ftp.legendarydragons.com.

See RUINEDIT.ZIP for documentation files updates that I
periodically post to the Castle Camelot web-site.

  1) Obtain copy of the RUIN23.ZIP archive from me via
email. Copies of the archive posted on my web-site
and on my LORD program's beta distribution sites will
     not always be up-to-date.

Player Database Editor is distributed in the RUINEDIT.ZIP
beta archive, and the RUINED10.ZIP official release archive.

  2) Unzip ALL all files from RUINED10.ZIP (or RUIN23.ZIP) into
your IGM directory, using overwrite mode.
     E.g.: pkunzip -n RUIN23
     Or pkunzip -n RUINED10

  3) Change into Ruined Castle IGM directory. Verify you have
a current RUINPLAY.DAT file. If you don't, then you can't
use RUINEDIT.EXE. It *MUST* be one created on or after
Jan. 16th, 2007 to be compatible with the utility.

The player database only tracks ONE day of IGM use.

RUINEDIT can NOT be used without a RUINPLAY.DAT file.

  4) Notes on Player Database Restoration File: RUINEDIT is
not meant for use with the RUINBACK.DAT file. But the
file, once renamed to RUINPLAY.DAT, can be used with it
since the two files use the same player database structure.

Notice: RUINBACK.DAT is INTENDED only for use by the
IGM itself for one purpose only: Restoring the Player
Database file during IGM operations if it gets deleted
by accident or on purpose while the IGM is in use.

  5) The first time you run the utility, it will ask you for
the path to Ruined Castle IGM directory. Type it in, and
press ENTER to exit the dialog box prompt. RUINEDIT.CFG
file will be created in that directory.

  5) Run RUINEDIT.EXE. If a config file is not in the directory
you run it from, it will ask you to create one - as noted
above. If config file is found, it then checks for existence
of RUINPLAY.DAT file. If one is not found, program will
give error message and quit working.

RUINEDIT has only one screen of data. It shows database
fields in the order they are listed in the player database
record structure (usually). Each value, with one exception,
may be set to any value that is valid for it.

The Lord Player Number field is display-only. That is because
I don't see any valid reason to allow users to fiddle around
     the LORD Player Number field.

NOTES: RUINCAST.EXE is the ONLY program that is normally
allowed to alter a player record's Player Number field, in
regards to the Ruined Castle IGM.

     --------------------------------------------------------
Exception: If the utility is run using the /DEBUG parameter,
then the user is allowed to modify the value of the LORD
     Player Number.

The user *MUST* use extreme caution in doing *ANY* changes
to this field while using the RUINCAST.EXE utility.

Do *NOT* mess with the LORD Player Number variable's value
UNLESS YOU KNOW ABSOLUTELY that it is invalid. Use either
DOS LORD's LORDCFG.EXE Player Database Editor or my Chasware
LPEdit v1.40 utility to obtain the correct values *BEFORE*
you try to change this IGM database stat's value.

The IGM uses very specific program code in its IGM
Maintenance process for correcting an invalid LORD Player
Number stat's value. Use RUINCAST to do so *ONLY* if you
are ABSOLUTELY sure that you know what you are doing!!!
     ---------------------------------------------------------

  6) When you exit RUINEDIT, it will resave the RUINPLAY.DAT
file so that any changes you made will be accessible to
     the IGM.

This editor does not use a Delete Record feature. None is
  needed by this IGM.

  Created RUINEDIT.TXT file on January 16th, 2007.

End of Notes for RUINEDIT usage.
