Hiding In The Shadows v3.00: IGM Usage Warnings and Limits:

Copyright 2005-2007 by Donald G. Tidmore.  {ShadWarn.txt}
=============================================================

****: IGM Usage Notations:
---------------------------
Transferred the IGM Usage Notations section into the
SHADWARN.TXT file on Oct. 04th, 2007.
=============================================================

1) If you rob the Vault and are caught without having paid the
Large Man for protection, you lose half of Gold and Gems.

Once a player has successfully robbed the Vault, they are
prevented from accessing the Vault again that day in later
visits. Players are allowed up to TWO chances per day to
rob the vault. But it is reduced to ONE chance if you succeed
   on that first try.

Note: If you go to the vault, and change your mind about
trying to enter a combination, that visit does not count.

   --------------------------------------------------------------
WARNING: If you are captured trying to rob the Vault, and
are NOT protected by Conan or a Fairy, you are executed.

HitPoints Loss is automatically set at the amount of Hit-
Points that the player has when they are captured.

If you have a Fairy, he can save you from death ONCE per day.

   -------------------------------------------------------------
If you have Conan's protection, nothing in the IGM can kill
you, (except for your allowing your Hitpoints to drop to
Zero,) and you are simply beaten unconscious.

Exception: If a player is killed in the IGM, such as when the
guards beat them up after they are caught trying to rob the
Vault, a player with Conan's protection can be brought back
to life ONE time per day. Went into effect on 09/24/07. This
causes the Protection Insurance to be terminated. If player
is simply injured, and is protected, they can be healed by
Conan once a day. The guards will only take 99% of the
   player's Hitpoints during the beating.  {09/24/07 paragraph}
   -------------------------------------------------------------

Players will lose 10% of their Experience regardless of
whether they are rescued by Fairy or by Conan, if they are
   killed by the guards.

You also lose 50% of your Gold on Hand and Gems if you are
captured trying to rob the vault.

** See SHADWARN.TXT for further info about Vault Robberies.
It is included inside SHADWORK.ZIP and in HITS300.ZIP,
which is the official distribution archive for HITS v3.00.
   -----------------------------------------------------------

2) The IGM only requires players to pay for protection one time
per day. If you visit Large Man and can't pay him, or reject
his protection, you are NOT allowed a second chance with him
   during the current visit.

You can leave the IGM, come back, and revisit Conan if you
change your mind and want to purchase his protection. This
option was enabled for players in 2006-2007 development.

(HINT: Always see how much money you have BEFORE you enter
his office. And remember, the IGM has an ATM. It is not
located in Conan's office, so you don't risk loss of his
protection when you visit the ATM.)

Depending on Max Visits/Day setting, players may use the IGM
between ONE and TEN times each day. The setting is established
   by end-user/sysop during IGM configuration.

See section 4-C for notes on Protection Insurance Costs.
   -----------------------------------------------------------

3) Fairy Rescue. Only works in regard to player being killed by
Leland in the Hall of Illusion. Fairy may only rescue player
ONE time per day. If player has Large Man's protection, fairy
rescue is not applicable, since the player is rescued by
Conan, the Large Man. If player returns to IGM for further
visit, does not have Protection, has a Fairy, and they get
killed by Leland, they will remain dead until the next day.

If player is killed by Leland's guards a second time, and they
have a Fairy, the Grim Reaper will feed their corpse to the
Red Dragon. Randomly, the killed player may be fed to the
Dragon anyway, if the guards were too lazy to dig a grave.

Fairy Rescue only works in the Failed Vault Robbery event,
when player does NOT have Conan's protection. If they do
have it, a fairy is not allowed to interfere in the situation
by Conan. As always, once it has been used, the player is NOT
allowed to be rescued from death later in the day by a Fairy.
   {09/24/07 paragraph}
   -------------------------------------------------------------

4) Conan Rescue. Added to IGM in September-October 2007:
   ---------------------------------------------------------
If player under Conan's protection is killed, Conan will
bring him/her back to life. This will only happen ONE time
per day. All of the player's HitPoints are restored.
The player's protection insurance is then terminated.
Player can buy another Protection Insurance Policy later
   in the day.

If the dead warrior is protected by Conan, but has already
used Conan Rescue, then he sort of "cheats" by giving them
a special 25 Hitpoints gift to restore their life. Their
life is restored to them, but they do NOT get Healed.

In this situation, if the player has a Fairy, it is NOT
allowed by Conan to do anything for the resurrected player.

After a Conan Rescue event occurs, the player is evicted
   from the IGM immediately.

** Will be fully implemented when I work on the next
development cycle of the IGM sometime in 2008. Full
implementation requires a new player database variable,
   which will be called Conan_Rescue.
   -------------------------------------------------------------

4-B) Conan Healing: The IGM used to provide a full healing
to the wounded player when they purchased protection, but
that is no longer done, as of Sept. 2007.

Players are only entitled to a FULL Healing one time per day.
Once that has occurred, Conan will still rescue them from
trouble, if their protection insurance is in effect. But
they will not longer be granted healing.
-------------------------------------------------------------

4-C) Changes in Conan Protection Insurance Cost.
     Implemented in v3.00 on Sept. 24th, 2007.
     --------------------------------------------------------

   1) Level 1-4 players pay a normal fee for protection.
They pay a 15 Charm Points fee.

   2) Level 5-8 players pay a doubled cost for protection.
They pay 30 Charm Points fee.

   3) Level 9-12 players pay a tripled cost for protection.
And they pay 50 Charm Points fee.

Conan is a guy who everyone seems to be rude with when
they enter his office. As a result, he has a policy of
charging the Charm Fee for rudeness. The protection fee
is Game Level based and starts at 3,000 Gold and goes up
to a maximum of 300,000 gold -- for low level players.

Players at Levels above 4 are assumed to be wealthy so
they must pay either Double or Triple costs for protection.

The maximum charged for protection is 900,000 Gold.
-------------------------------------------------------------

5) Wishing Well: No new wishes were added for version 3.00.
These changes were made during v3.00 development cycle:

   * Horse Wish: IGM will now grant player a 25% increase
in their Forest Fights when the Genie grants their wish.

   * LORD News entries were added for these wishes, if they are
granted: Max HitPoints, Strength, Defense, Charm,
Gems, Gold Coins, Experience, Forest Fights, Player
     Fights, and Skill Use Points.

   * LORD News entries have been in usage for a good while
throughout most of the 2007 development cycle when the
Wishing Well Genie grants a Fairy, Orphan Kids, or
     a Sex Change.

   * In final work on HITS v3.00, I increased the amounts
granted by the Genie for several stats. I also added
the option during the Adoption Wish event where the
Genie can grant Quadruplets to the player.
   --------------------------------------------------------

There is no way to exit Wishing Well event, other than to
make a Wish, or to use the 0 "Abort Wish" menu code.

Horse/Fairy notes: If you wish for Horse or Fairy and you
already have one, the igm simply gives you a replacement.
You are told in the Wishing Well Menu screen if you have
one or both. There is NO second chance wish granted by IGM
   in this situation.

Second Chance wish: Is only granted if the igm is unable
to grant a wish. Example. You have 32,000 Charm points and
wish for Charm. IGM can't grant that, so it will allow you
to come back to the Well later and make a substitute wish.

Players are limited to 1 to 10 Wishes per day. The actual
number of wishes allowed is chosen by the sysop/end-user. It
can NOT be ZERO, and can not exceed 10. Wishes are only
counted if they were granted successfully.
   -----------------------------------------------------------

6) Free Room at Inn. If your player spouse is already asleep in
a room, you are granted permission to join them in the room
for free. The room rental price paid to Zelda or Alec will be
   refunded.

This IGM event is tied to the IGM's OUT files, so be VERY sure
not to delete them for any reason manually while the IGM is in
   usage.

Room rent fees were changed on Sept. 19, 2005. If you can't
pay for a room, and don't qualify for a free room, then your
request for a room will be denied. Maximum amount charged
for a room is 12,000 Gold, as of Dec. 29, 2006.
   -----------------------------------------------------------

7) When you view your LORD Stats, there are two screens used.
The user can choose to skip viewing the "Special IGM Stats"
   screen.

Neither of the Stats screens are shown at igm exit when the
player has exceeded the IGM's daily uses limit.

There simply was not enough room on one single screen to
display all the important LORD stats, and the important
IGM stats. So the IGM uses two screens to show them.

Source code distribution notes: Added 10/03/2007:
---------------------------------------------------------------
If you wish to see all of the Pascal source code files used
by the Hiding In The Shadows programs, you may download the
igm's source code archive from the Castle Camelot web-site.

http://camelot.legendarydragons.com/IGM-Code/shadcode.zip

You are granted viewing rights ONLY to these Pascal source
code files. No one is allowed to use the source code files
on their own without my explicit permission, with the exception
of their usage to make similar LORD programs of your very own.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Usage of Charlie Wardick's Chasware Library is freely granted
to anyone who wishes to use it. However, remember it is his
copyrighted property, and you do NOT have rights without his
permission to alter its CHASWARE.PAS, CHASWIGM.PAS, and
CHASATTR.PAS files.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Note: The TechnoJock's Gold Toolkit, which is no longer
supported or available for purchase online, is used to make
SHADEDIT. If you wish to use my set of TPU files for it, let
me know. Just be aware that its authors are not available for
technical support or product purchase/registration.
--------------------------------------------------------------

See the ASL.TXT file inside HITS300.ZIP for information
regarding anyone's usage of the ALORD.PAS, IGM.PAS, and
other ANGEL Toolkit program/source code files.
--------------------------------------------------------------

Anyone who wishes to use the CONVHITS.EXE and SHADEDIT.EXE
programs' source code to write similar programs for their own
usage is granted permission to do so. I would appreciate your
letting me know that you are using the programs concept/code,
and some kind of acknowledgement in your program's documentation
regarding its usage and authorship. Donald Tidmore.

IGM Usage Warnings:
=================================

By using this IGM you automatically accept all limitations and
rules that this IGM uses. Violation of those rules and limits
may result in termination of your right to free Technical support
for this IGM.

The usage Rules are as follows:

1) You may NOT, under any circumstance, add your own lines to
SHADOWS3.DAT file. That can cause the IGM to malfunction. The
file has SEVEN lines in it.

This is how it looks on my system:

C:\INTERNET\LORD\ Where LORD is located
C:\BP7\SHADOWS3\UNITS\ Where IGM is executed from
DONALD TIDMORE Sysop's First/Last name
BELGARION Sysop's LORD Name
CASTLE CAMELOT BBS Name or Web-site Name
10 Max Visits/Day allowed
10 Max Wishes/Day allowed

2) NEVER use the *ANY* of the IGM's executable files while you
have any of the IGM's data files write-protected. That can and
probably will cause the program to crash.

3) Program Configuration/Installation. All FIVE text fields are
limited to 40-space data. This is so that they appear normally
when you view the configuration data on-screen. Usage of LORD
Color codes inside SHADOWS3.DAT is NOT allowed. The sixth data
field may not exceed 10 as a value for Max Visits/Day. The
seventh data field also can not exceed 10, for Max Wishes/Day.

4) This IGM will only work with DOS LORD. This IGM is NOT usable
with LORD/32 beta. A 32-bit version for LORD for Windows usage
may be worked on sometime in 2008. I will not be making
IGMs for specific usage with either LORD for Linux or LORD for
OS/2, since I have no knowledge of either operating system.

5) Don't try to create/update the IGM Usage reports if you don't
have a SHADPLAY.DAT file. The IGM's executable program files
-- SHADOWS3.EXE, CONVHITS.EXE, or SHADEDIT.EXE -- will crash if
you attempt to access an older SHADPLAY.DAT file if it uses a
different player database structure than the program is using.

6) Do NOT ever manually delete any primary-level IGM data file,
such as SHADPLAY.DAT, while the IGM is running. Avoid manual
editing of any IGM text file while using the IGM's programs.

Regarding OUT files, remember that un-installing the IGM will
automatically delete all OUT files made by Hiding In The Shadows.

** OUT files made by HITS v2.70 and prior versions will NOT work
with Hiding in the Shadows v3.00. It uses a brand new format
for how the IGM *MUST* be executed by LORD.

If you are testing Un-install and plan to re-install the igm,
backup all of your OUT.* files first in the LORD directory,
so that you can restore them from the backup source.

** Be aware that you can NOT simply re-use an OUT file made
by the older version of H.I.T.S. I've explained inside
SHADOWS3.TXT how you can manually rewrite the OUT files so
they can be used by Hiding In The Shadows v3.00.

If another IGM is used to evict a player from this IGM, such as
The Pawn Shop, that IGM usually will delete the player's OUT file
that showed that player as being asleep in the affected IGM.

7) During IGM installation, Hiding In the Shadows will only
do actual installation if SHADOWS3.EXE is found in the
directory that you specify as the IGM's location.

Installation is also terminated if the IGM is unable to find
LORD.EXE where you tell it to look.
=============================================================

IGM Usage Limits:
===============================
1) Players are automatically protected from being killed by IGM
if they have paid for Conan's protection. If player is killed,
and they have a Fairy, it is allowed to save you ONE time per
day.

Players who get killed while under Conan's protection can be
rescued from Death ONE time per day, as of v2.88 Beta. He will
heal the player fully ONE time per day that is under his
protection. If he rescues that player again, and they were
killed, he simply grants them 25 Hitpoints so they can return
to LORD alive and get fully healed there. The "protection
insurance" policy is cancelled when Conan has to restore the
player to life.

Fairy Rescue event is not allowed to work in instances where
the player is killed robbing the Vault. In normal igm usage,
no one is killed for robbing the vault. The Hitpoints
punishment is computed at 95 percent of player's Hitpoints.

If for some reason, their Hitpoints drop to Zero, and they
get punished, it is POSSIBLE for the player to be killed.
This is where Conan Rescue and Fairy Rescue come into effect.

If on repeat visit to igm, on same day, you get killed again,
then you stay dead until the next LORD game day. Fairy Rescue
ONLY works in Hall of Illusion IGM event - it is the only one
that will kill players. If you get killed a second time that
day, while trying to use a Fairy, your body is fed to the Red
Dragon.

The player is killed for the crime of adultery. That is the
ONLY event in the IGM that automatically executes the player.

2) Vault robbery attempts are limited to TWO per day. The vault
can only be robbed ONE time per day. If you succeed on first
try, you are not allowed to visit the Vault again until the next
day.

If you are captured robbing the vault, or trying to do so, then
you lose half of whatever Gold and Gems you were carrying. This
only occurs though to those players who do NOT have Conan's
protection.

Vault robbery success: Gems gain is limited to 250 gems maximum.
Minimum gems gain is 25 gems. Gold gain is limited to 100
Million Gold maximum or 20% of player's LORD Gold in Bank,
whichever is the lower amount.

3) Hall of Illusion, The Corridor, Garden of Lust:
Those events may only be used ONE time per day. However, if you
enter one and then simply exit, you are allowed to return to
that event again later in day.

The Wishing Well usage is now sysop-configurable. The player
is allowed to make a maximum of 10 wishes each day. Wishes
that can't be granted don't count against the limit, and
are covered by the "Second Chance" event, explained below.

3-A) In the Wishing Well, if the IGM is unable to grant a wish,
you get a Second Chance to use the Well until a Wish is granted.
If you waste a wish, asking for something you already have, there
is no Second Chance. Ex 1. Don't wish for a Horse if you have
one. And Ex. 2: Flirt and Bard Song wishes will only work if
you have already used the appropriate event in the LORD Inn
earlier in the day. All wishes honor Seth Robinson's boundary
limits for numeric lord stats. The IGM will not raise Gold or
Experience above Two Billion. Skill Point and Skill Use Points
wishes are subject to 100 points limit. All other numeric Lord
stats are subject to their 32,000 limits.

3-B) Wishes are not granted if they would cause a LORD stat to
go negative, or if they would cause a LORD stat to exceed the
limits Seth Robinson established for LORD IGMs to follow.

Examples: The IGM will not raise Gold or Experience above Two
Billion. Skill Point and Skill Use Points wishes are subject to
100 points limit. All other numeric Lord stats are subject to
their 32,000 limits.

4) Player may only use the IGM a maximum of 10 times per day. If
they are on a BBS, the sysop may make the IGM usable between 1
and 10 times per day during IGM configuration.

5) ATM Access only works if you have money in your LORD Bank
account. All users have to pay an access fee to Conan for EACH
access of the ATM. Fees are limited to max of 5 Million Gold.

ATM Deposit/Withdrawal requests that would cause Gold in Hand
or Gold in Bank to go negative, or go over Two Billion, are not
allowed by the IGM.

6) Free room at Inn privilege only applies to a player who is
married to another player. It does not work with NPC marriages.

If player has paid either Alec or Zelda for a Room for the
evening, Alec gives them a refund if their Player Spouse is
already asleep in a room. You don't get any special treatment
in this event though if you are married to an NPC.

7) If a player's OUT file is deleted for any reason, that player
MAY not be considered to be asleep in the IGM when they return
later that day. If the OUT file deleted belonged to the current
player's spouse who was asleep in the IGM, the player does not
qualify for the free Lair Inn room. When the spouse returns to
IGM in same day, the WakeUp process is not run for that player.

Exception: If a player is listed as being asleep in the IGM's
database, when a new day's player database file is created on
the following day, they remain classified as asleep even if they
don't have an OUT file for the HITS IGM any more.

8) Regarding Conan's protection insurance, you ONLY get ONE
chance to pay him for protection per visit. If you go into
his office and reject his offer of protection, you can't
change your mind and get it later in the visit. Once he
has rescued you from death, the protection policy is terminated.
Players can buy a new policy afterwards. The cost of a
policy is now based on Game Level. The more advanced a player
is in LORD, the higher the insurance policy cost becomes.

Level 1-4 players get the normal protection cost. Level 5-8
players must pay double. Level 9-12 players pay triple.

On repeat visits, the IGM remembers if you have Conan's
protection. It also remembers if he has healed you or
not earlier in the day.

Exception: If SHADPLAY.DAT is deleted between visits, the IGM
will use SHADBACK.DAT to restore the IGM player database file.
But any changes to IGM stats after the player entered the IGM
will not be recorded if SHADBACK.DAT has to be used. So in
such instances, you might end up having to pay Conan for
protection two times in the same visit simply because the IGM
does not "know" that you have his protection already paid for.
=============================================================

Hiding In the Shadows v3.00 is no longer able to report to
the user the reason for a crash. ANGEL-based igms do not
have an Error Log unit, like DDIGM and DDPLUS based igms do.
The latter can tell you what the RunTime Error Number was,
and a basic indication of what it means. This data in the
DDIGM/DDPLUS programs is usually recorded in LORD's ERROR.LOG
file.
============================================================

Troubleshooting:
Q: Hiding in the Shadows ends abruptly or says "Runtime
Error 002"! <Error checking is done, so this should
        never happen!>

A: Most likely, it cannot access a file needed for it to
run. The files accessed by Hiding in the Shadows are:

Player Database: SHADPLAY.DAT; Player Database Backup:
        SHADBACK.DAT; IGM Usage Report: HS-USAGE.TXT; Time/use
maint file: SHADTIME.DAT; IGM Config file:
SHADOWS3.DAT; IGM Gossip file: SHADTALK.TXT; and Player
        Database Editor Config file SHADEDIT.CFG.

The program uses a SHADOWS3.ANS file. But it will run
without it, if it can't find the file. It definitely
will NOT run though if the IGM Config file is missing.

        If you don't have a SHADPLAY.DAT or SHADTIME.DAT file
when you enter the IGM, they are created automatically.
And if SHADPLAY.DAT somehow is deleted during IGM usage,
        it should be recreated automatically.

When the IGM tries to access SHADPLAY.DAT file and can
not find it, it will first try to restore the player
database using the SHADBACK.DAT backup file. If that
works, then everyone's player records will be rescued.
If restoration fails, then the igm simply creates a
new database file. Which will only cover the current
player. All other players who were asleep in the igm,
will no longer be in the recreated IGM database file.

It is not safe to run SHADOWS3.EXE CONFIG, REMOVE, or
INSTALL commands while the IGM is in use. It is
DEFINITELY not safe to use REMOVE or INSTALL commands
while LORD is running, since there is a chance that
LORD's major data files could end up corrupted.

And don't manually delete the IGM's data files while
running SHADOWS3.EXE. This applies to varying extent
to usage of CONVHITS.EXE and SHADEDIT.EXE as well.

Lastly, never manually edit SHADOWS3.DAT while the IGM
is in use. You should ALWAYS use SHADOWS3 CONFIG
to make minor changes in the IGM config file. But
major changes such as moving the IGM to a different
LORD game directory require you to un-install the
igm, do the relocation, and then do a new installation.

The IGM also accesses these three LORD data files:

        Player.dat, Lognow.txt, and Garden.txt. If Lognow.txt or
Garden.txt are missing, LORD should recreate them when it
resumes control after the IGM session ends. The IGM will
not cause player.dat corruption, so if something happens
to that file, it is not the IGM's fault.

When the IGM is used in INSTALL or REMOVE modes, and the
        LORD lognow.txt and/or 3rdparty.dat files are missing,
the IGM is able to recreate them using default settings
that Seth Able told IGM authors to use in the 1990s. That
info is recorded in the Lordstrc.txt file that is
included with all versions of DOS LORD.
        ---------------------------------------------------------

Note: While using the IGM, do not EVER write-protect any of the
       IGM's data files - SHADPLAY.DAT, SHADTIME.DAT,
SHADTALK.TXT, or SHADOWS3.DAT. This also applies to
       SHADBACK.DAT. It is OK to write-protect SHADOWS3.DAT,
SHADOWS3.ANS, or SHADEDIT.CFG in some cases. But its best
to not do that with any of those files, while the IGM is
       being used.

If the IGM tries to access a write-protected file, it will
quit working. And since it no longer shows RunTime info
on the screen, it will not be easy to know WHY the igm
       malfunctioned.

Don't ever write-protect the three program files used
by Hiding In The Shadows while the IGM is being used.
That MIGHT cause one program to malfunction.

Notation for users of MS Windows XP, and possibly Windows
NT/2000.

-- In the Windows XP DOS emulation, it will not allow you to do
commands from the DOS prompt such as "START 0" as listed above.
That is because the operating system thinks you are trying to
run a Windows program named "0".

Instead you will have to type START.BAT 0 and similar commands,
or use this solution: Setup a different batch file for each
node you are using. Then type START-1 to execute a batch file
for running LORD on Node 1 and so forth.

Here is how my START-2.BAT file is coded. It runs LORD in
local mode on "Node 2":

@echo off
cd C:\INTERNET\LORD
CLS

c:\utils\BORDER 2

start.bat 2
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Note. You MUST use START.BAT in the last line. It identifies
to the system that it is running a batch file.

Operating System Note: I can only directly support users who are
