Well, I can't say I agree with Bryan's ideal that all BBS doors should be free... I mean if we all thought ALL software should be free and it actually were, then I guess Bryan wouldn't have a job since the software company he works for couldn't pay him Smile j/k

Bryan is a great programmer and a great asset to the BBS Door community. He will support any of the doors he has and makes updates to them, will fix bugs and offers ALL of his doors for free... what can I say, he's a looney toone.

Bryan also works on some doors for BBSFiles.com, but I only send him the ones that will end up being free cause I am afraid they'd wind up free reguardless Smile

He didn't say all software should be free. He feels BBS Doors that are based on yesterdays technology should be free. He truely understands the BBS community, and understands our position as a community taking care of each other.

everyone his own opion

Just can't convince me... I guess I should give you my 65 Mustang for free and my 64 Ford Truck for free... they are based on old technology.... and the mechanic shouldn't charge me to work on them either Smile

My point is, that if people want to use them, there is a value... if they don't .. then there is not.

Bryan is nice enough to work on these doors for free... yet he is profusely appreciative when he gets donations for his website since hosting does cost money.... I send him donations since he is working on doors I have bought and/or gotten the source to. I wish I could pay him $150.00/hr to do the work, but alas I can not... but I do send him something (as I do all the programmers that work on these doors I find) cause their time is worth something and I know most sysops will just want the doors for free and never think twice about the time spent...

Hurm

FIRST.. My Software company DOES pay me. And they Over pay me. I like it like that.

2nd. Dead software that the author gives up on SHOULD be free. I would LOVE it if all bbs software was free. AND in MY opinion if you have not (YET) paid for the BBS software that you are running then YOU SHOULD NOT PAY FOR A DOOR.

I mean Shit ANY author (DM) that is still working will accept a donation.

You really dont want to get me started on that. But I am glad I joined when I did.

hey - welcome

Glad to see you dropped in....

I never said that they didn't pay you... I mean you got to make a living...

"Dead" software that the author gives up on is one thing... but when I BUY the source since the programmer gave up.. why should I have to let it go for free ??? I do put FREE fully working keys in the archives.. so in essense I am just paying to give things away... (maybe I am the looney toon) I am only charging for vanity keys...

And I have paid for every BBS software I have ever run... I paid for Phoenix, I paid for WildCat, I paid for WorldGroup and I even paid Rob for Synchronet.

if you haven't paid for your BBS software, then not only should you not pay for doors, you shouldn't even be able to run them Smile
