Well, looks like the Lordnews mailing list is broken again. So two 1/2 days after
sending this the first time, this is the second try, using my Eudora mailing lists.
Remember if you don't want these updates, let me know, and I'll take you off
the lists. Now here is the summary of what is in the newsletter to date.
If you are reading the actual newsletter each week, you will know most of this
already. Scheduled release date will be mid-December 2001.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of my LORD friends. I am editing this somewhat.
The original message is archived already, on-line, inside ccigm-9h.zip, in case
you or someone else wants to read it later on. I'll update any other update
messages the same way, that are done for this issue.

------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a summary of known LORD Authors's status. The current newsletter is halfway through its planned coverage period, so
I figured it was time for an newsletter status update, so here
you are. Reminder: If you know any Lord authors who would want to receive the next newsletter remind them to be subscribed by the
second week of December. I will plan for a release before
Christmas Day most likely.

=================================================================

Brief summary of entries and sections listed in LordNews issue #9
so far. As of Tuesday morning, the issue is mostly up-to-date.
Going to add messages from Suzanne Franklin, Steve Gargolinski,
Blankenship, Hannesson, Fogt, and Culver soon. Some require
message editing, and some require igm testing before I know
what I want to put in the newsletter file.

  1) Michael Preslar's November 12 News release regarding
status of LORD programming. Added in extra info a few days
ago from his Fidonet lord message to me. It gave some more
detail on what's happening with the 32-bit Lord programs.
  2) Chuck Culver: Has successfully tested updated Gallagher's
Performance v1.50 LORD IGM. Not released yet publicly. Have
just got update of Lottery igm to test.
  3) Michael Everett: Suffering from major server crash at ISP, and
associated screwed up email service. Working on getting his BBS
Telnet service working fully. Very flaky email - HiWaay mail
doesn't want to go through to him, but BellSouth mail seems to
be able to reach him.
  4) Lloyd Hannesson: Has finished latest house move, working on
settling into new house, and has new kitten to play with. Will be
resuming web-site updates and Lord programming work sometime soon.
  5) Gary Hartzell: Released a fourth Lord IGM on October 20, called
Trick or Treat. Still working on setting up his BBS.

  6) Mike Hodgson: Released FreeDoor v1.30 sometime around Nov. 07.
Working on a FreeDoor documentation file update.
  7) Duncan Idaho: Still working away on DuneLord2 Lord2 New world
program. No beta version released so far. No plans to work on
the Wheel of Time Lord2 program anytime soon. Too many HUGE books
to read and re-read for ideas for that game. Hint: Guys, use some
thing much smaller for your igm ideas. Say a single book or a
trilogy <G>. Hint2: Would someone consider doing a LORD program
with magic stuff like is in the various David Eddings books that
I love so much? Belgariad, Malloreon, Elenium, etc.
  8) Paul Koukos: Still working on those Lordnet cheat-proof updates
of Robin Hood v4.00. Latest update of IGM, and L444.zip file, posted
on his site recently, dated 11-16-01. Still hasn't reported status
info on program called X-Rated LordTRX, or on Ye Olde Town Farm.
  9) Bryan Stanbridge: Will be able to work on updating Apothecary
and Grizelda's House after Thanksgiving and his same-day Birthday
are over. Temporary RTE200 patch updates released by me, for him,
for those two IGMs.
  10) Kiteria's Korner: Latest changes are addition of information
as it is discovered in daily LORD play, regarding the Jennie Codes.
FOXY, LADY, HOTT, BABE, and SEXY all tested, and give rewards.
FAIR, COOL, CUTE, NICE, DOLL, and STAR tested - no reward/penalty.
Used CUTE, NICE, and DOLL as lady character. Was told I might
understand her better as a man. STAR: Just says yes she is. You
stated the obvious. Something like that. DUNG, UGLY, DUMB, NICE - options from Jennie.htm page. It's hard to think of "good" 4-letter words to check out. Anyone have suggestions? Oh if you guys want
to play "frog", try using Dung sometime. it's very funny.

   11) Bryan Turner: Only LORD activity has been to recompile Barak's
House, at my request, which fixed the RTE200 problem, and the
barakcfg.exe program. It didn't work right in a second LORD game
setup at first. Released free registration codes, earlier this year,
for Inter-Lord, Fireside Chat, the six Vanadia IGMs, and other non-LORD
programs written by Gregory Campbell.
   12) Marty Blankenship: Working on updates of Marty's Mercantile IGM.
Still hunting down its v1.50 source code (QuickBasic). If anyone
who wrote BASIC-based IGms wants to turn over development of their
stuff, he's interested in taking them on.
   13) Joel Gathercole: Last contact on Oct. 17. Was still working on
forming local Internet service. CNW site still closed down. No work
known to have been done by Joel on CNW program since late June.
   14) Harvey Hall: Told me about the Pent2.exe program.
Unfortunately, so far it hasn't proven any better than tppatch at
repairing RTE200. One advantage however: It's written in English.
Far easier to comprehend than Tppatch, which is in German.
   15) Microsoft "news". Discovery that users of Win-ME and later
Win-XP are not longer permitted to use DOS device drivers in their
Config.sys file, such as ANSI.SYS. Have recently also discovered that
in Win-ME, and presumably Win-XP also, only SET commands are allowed
in the Autoexec.bat file.

   16) PC Magazine "news". They stopped supporting the ANSI.COM
utility program, that can be used when ANSI.SYS is not available.
Thank goodness for their quality free programs. Even without further
update, ANSI.COM is a god-send for LORD players and LORD sysops.
   17) Chris MacPherson: Has agreed to work on recompilation update
of his Pawn Shop IGM. It's currently unusable due to RTE200, in 933
Mhz testing on a Pentium III system. Pawn Shop update problems: He needs help with two problems: 1. When trying to recompile
pawnshop.exe he gets an "Out of Memory" error. And 2. Psetup.exe recompiles without error but attempting to run the install portion
gives him the following runtime: Runtime error 002 at 0000:07C4.
If you can help, write him at chris@macphersons.ca .
   18) Brian May: Has located source code to his LORD programs. None
have RTE200, as they were written in C. Is working on setting up
a Linux-based Telnet BBS. Is going to check into updates of his IGMs.
   19) Seth Robinson: Had recent hard drive crash. If anyone sent
him email in recent weeks, you may need to resend it to him. Is doing
well, and working on his non-LORD programming interests.
   20) Rick Smorawski: The source code for his Hidden Spring of Turgon
IGM was lost. He may rewrite the IGM sometime.

   21) Jason "Elric" Weber: Has been plagued by computer hardware
problems, virus attacks, and other bad luck. Has no idea if he will
ever return to active Lord programming or LORD web-site updating.
Wishes to be considered a former LORD2 author.
   22) Aaron Wornom: No wt-lord programming in several months, has
restored dial-up access to his BBS (757) 851-4039, and changed his
email address to awornom@sdsoft.org. Thanks Aaron, for the nice
Thanksgiving greeting message you just sent out.
   23) David Simmons: Was going to fix problems with Knights of Golden
Horseshoe and Shauna, Princess of Sorcery IGMs. Have lost email
contact with him again.
   24) Robert Fogt: Is unable to work on Outhouse IGM problems, so
is going to send me his source code, so that someone else can work
on repairing the IGM's RTE200 code; and get it to install correctly
in games with a large number of installed IGMs/utilities. Have
source code now for LordMenu utility and Ocean View Resort TEOS
igm from him. Will be released to Fidonet later this week.
   25) Bobby Queen: Continues to concentrate on his health, and
weight-loss web-site/email interests.

   26) Suzanne Franklin: Health continues to be bad, and she will
not be having weight-loss surgery. Unable to give up smoking. I
believe everyone should keep her in their prayers.
   27) Shawn Highfield: No longer doing LORD programming. Was unable
to locate source code for Sommer's Shiny Things IGM.
   28) Joseph Watson: Upcoming WT-Lord igms release info.
Merry Christmas v2.70 released on Nov. 18th. Updates of Mad Dog
and Indian Joe's Barn to be released soon.
   29) John Elson: Release of LORD Web FAQ v3.00 program,
and some background on the zero Bank balance that Lord 4.xx has.
   30) Has anyone got experience using the program Virtual Pascal, where
you could advise on whether one can easily use it to try writing Lord
programs? It's located at www.pascal.com and I have added a link
to the IGM Programming Files/Links table on the LORD Menusets Page. I've added a paragraph for this site to LordNews #9.
=====================================================================

No Lord newsletter participation currently:
Jay Cochrane - no contact since late September. Was supposed to
be redoing his Lord igms, but none ever released since then.
Mike Dillon, Shannon Talley, Chuck Brogan, Robert Olsen, Orion
Elder, and Black Omen. No LORD news reported from any since
either issue #7 or Issue #8 was released.

Status of old Newsletter issues updates. Issues #1-#3 are
updated. Have not worked on issues #4-6 recently. Not a
high priority. Issue 8 does not need any update that I can
see so far. Issue #7 update needs not determined yet.
===========================================

LORD IGM Testing Notes: Have listed 30 IGMs as unusable to date.
It includes four igms that don't work in Local mode, but may
work in Local mode. Exact number of IGMs tested that work OK,
not kept track of, but is over 3 dozen. These IGMs have been
tested and work OK at 933 MHz, when evaluated in Local Mode.
Some have to be RTE200 patched.

These are Usable with/without patching:
Apu's Pawn Shop, Barak's House 2.01, Castle of L.O.R.D. 2.10,
Castle Coldrake 1.10b, Dragon's Claw Tavern 2.01, Felicity's Temple 2.00, Free World 5.70, Gallagher's Performance 1.50, Grizelda's House 1.72p, Hidden Spring of Turgon 3.00, Hiding in the Shadows 1.00, L.O.R.D. Cavern v1.40b, Let's Go Fishing 1.00, Lord Suburbia 2.00, Lord Wheel 1.00, Love Shack v1.20, Marty's Mercantile 1.50, Outlands Tavern 1.30a, Overlord's Quik-E-Mart 1.10, Phil's Bar & Grill 1.10, Pleasant Valley 1.00, Reflections 1.10, Rest and Relaxation 2.00, School Days 1.00, Seasons 1999 & 2000 IGMs, Sherwood Forest 1.20, Turgon's House 2.80, Violet's Cottage 5.20, Warrior's Graveyard 1.70, Werewolf v3.01
(Severely crippled), and Wise Guy 1.20.
-----------------------------------------

These IGMs failed testing at 933 MHz. Some may work in a BBS game,
but they don't work in Local Mode for me. Most of them fail due to
un-patchable RTE200 condition. At least one failed and corrupted my
3rdparty.dat file in the process (Robert Strange's Lord Trivia IGM.

Unusable in Local Mode: Caldor's Orphanage 0.05, The Graveyard 3.30,
Pool of Transformation, and Socrates Shop 1.15. Configuration problems:
SpellBinder's General Store; Spellbinder. Other problems: Werewolf -
Most features are unusable unless the IGM is registered. Outhouse: Won't install if you have 9+ IGMs in use already.

Un-patchable RTE200 IGMs: Fairy Peddler 3.00; Forest of the Raven
v2.10, Haunted House 1.01; Hospital Lobby 1.01; The Jewler 2.30; Larissa's Lair 1.00; L.O.R.D. Huts; LORD Trivia - Robert Strange version; LORD's Realm 0.13; Mysterious Hut 1.00; The Mystified Mage 1.00; Oasis of El Sayal 0.90; Obo's Black Market 1.10a; Old Man's Cave 1.00; The Outhouse 1.30; Pawn Shop 1.20; Pleasure's Paradise
v1.19;  The Red Dragon Pet Shop 1.00a;  Red Dragon's Bank 1.60;  RimWell, Isle of Witches 2.10;  Shauna, Princess of Sorcery 2.00;
Skill Training Center 1.04; Spellbinder 1.01a; Spellbinder's General Store 1.30; Warrior's Village 1.20; and Weapons of War 2.53b.
============================================================

LORD Programs Released for/by Authors since October 01, 2001:
--------------------------------------------------
Note: Programs are all LORD IGMs or BBS programming files. I have
not seen a single program released for LORD II since March 2001.
No LORD utilities have been released since July 2001. One WT-LORD
IGM released recently, two more will be released soon. One LORD
text file released recently.

Recently released LORD IGMs: Robin Hood v4.00, Trick or Treat v1.00,
Barak's House v2.01, Temporary RTE200 patch releases: The Apothecary
v1.72p, and Grizelda's House v1.72p. Recent WT-LORD IGMs: Merry
Christmas v2.70. Not ready yet: Mad Dog and Indian Joe updates.

Recent non-IGM releases: Hellas BBS League 444 files, Freedoor v1.20
and v1.30, and LORD Web FAQ v3.00.
=================================================================

Work in progress that is known of recently:
1) Codax Dragon - Lost email contact months ago, have no idea what
status of his Cruises Lord2 IGM is now.
2) Joseph Watson - New versions of Merry Christmas, The Mad Dog, and
Indian Joe's - in final preparation for release.
3) Chuck Culver - Gallagher's Performance update mostly finished.
Working on Lottery IGM now, and Mosh Pit IGM soon.
4) Rick Smorawski - unable to update Hidden Spring of Turgon, due
to source code being lost. Will think about rewriting it.
5) Chris MacPherson: Trying to update/fix his Pawn Shop IGM.
6) Robert Fogt - Looking for source code for Outhouse IGM. It
refuses to install when you have 9 or more IGMs in your
3rdparty.dat file.
7) Marty Blankenship: Working on Marty's Mercantile update.
8) Bryan Stanbridge: Around Thanksgiving weekend, will be able
to start update work on Apothecary, Grizelda's House, Path editor
utility, and Lord Suburbia (if it needs work).
9) Michael Preslar: Busy as always on LORD, LORD II, etc.
10) Lloyd Hannesson: Unknown when he will be working on the
Warrior's Graveyard. Its main problem is it either takes away
a player's fairy when they enter the IGM with one; or it gives
you one with the Lemon-Aide, then short-changes you by not telling
Lord you have one. Has moved to new house and has new kitten.
11) Duncan Idaho: Working away in New Zealand on DuneLord2.
No work underway on the Wheel of Time Lord2 New World.

End of summary. If I forgot someone, please let me know.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. LordNews Issue #9
has been updated mostly to full up-to-date status again. The
last full web-site update was done Monday night. Pictures
have been replaced so far on the Waterfalls Homepage, HTML
Resources Page, and Index Page.

LORD programs search. Does anyone know of any BBS sysops
they can check with to see if the following IGMs exist?
Caspian's Orphanage, Gandolf's Gym, Torrin's Training Center,
King Carnage's Castle, Russian Roulette, The Well, The
Jeweler's Shoppe, Market Place, Milo's Market, and Old
Skill Center. Lord utilities wanted: Lpurge, Monedit,
and Monrot - all by Scott Emrich.

Recent info from Seth: The RTE200 problem first came to
light when the 400 Mhz Intel Pentium II systems were
released. Question: Can anyone tell me if TEOS programs
have RTE200, and can anyone on my Lord email lists look
into testing them? I have no desire to learn TEOS, so
will not try them out. As for Lord utilities, I'll take
a look at those whenever I'm finishing checking out LORD
igms. End of newsletter update.

Full text message sent only to those considered fully active
currently. The others on my Eudora LORD mailing lists will be
sent cc9-up1.zip file, containing text of this message. Donald.
